Chapter 52 The Cat on the Rooftop
Chapter 52 The Cat on the Rooftop
Watching demonstrations is not enough; you'll know how difficult it is once you try it yourself.
Manipulating needle holders and tweezers to perform incredibly delicate movements is undoubtedly a severe challenge for every intern.
In the practice room.
The busiest people, besides Associate Professor Fujita, were Hayashi Ze. After correcting one student's movements, he would go to the next student to adjust their posture. He repeated the same words over and over again until he was hoarse from talking.
After teaching two rows of students, he walked over from the incredibly stiff Otomo Shoji. He briefly gave up the idea of patiently teaching each student the key points of the movements and went straight back to his own group.
He has done what the associate professor asked him to do; he has fulfilled his duty.
Lin Ze felt he should spend more time helping his team members.
So he returned to Miyagi Suzuo's side.
Since she was the first student Lin Ze taught, when Lin Ze returned, Miyagi had already finished sewing the mannequin and was tying knots with great concentration. Suddenly, she caught a whiff of Lin Ze's familiar scent and turned around in surprise, only to find him standing beside her.
Miyagi Suzuo had little experience with sewing, and after watching the demonstration, she only half understood. Lin Ze corrected her posture and she immediately started sewing.
The model was stitched haphazardly, with extremely uneven stitches and very large gaps between the stitches on both sides.
Looking at her own aesthetically unappealing work, her face flushed red instantly.
She wished she could quickly cover Lin Ze's eyes so he wouldn't see.
"It's quite difficult..."
"Just practice more, and try taking it apart again."
As he spoke, Lin Ze picked up the scissors next to him and cut the sutures with a "snip." He then took the tweezers next to him and pulled the sutures out.
“Come, I’ll teach you,” he said.
Miyagi Suzuo didn't realize what was happening. She stared blankly at the equipment in her hand, blinking her beautiful eyes. The next second, Lin Ze took her hand.
His hands were large, with distinct, slender knuckles, and a comfortable warmth. He gently pressed down on her small hand, pushing her fingertips to slide across the needle holder.
Miyagi's mind went blank for a moment.
Her mind was filled with thoughts of "I'm holding hands with Lin Ze," and her beautiful eyes sparkled wildly.
Her heart rate was initially calm, but after realizing this fact and feeling the real touch in her hand, it began to spike, thumping like a drum.
"Relax."
Lin Ze's gentle voice rang in her ears.
"Your grip is too low, that's not right. Your posture is also too stiff. It should be shoulder-width apart. Come on, spread your legs."
"Oh... mmm!" Her face flushed, and she took a few deep breaths.
"Relax, Miyagi-kun." Lin Ze looked at her still tense posture with some helplessness.
"Okay, okay."
The girl glanced at him, secretly delighted.
……
The whole morning passed quickly.
Students rubbed their sore muscles as they walked out of the teaching building, the sun shining brightly overhead.
We practiced suturing for more than three hours. Professor Fujita said that observing surgeries and practicing suturing will be included in the regular curriculum in the future.
If everyone still had the mindset of students a few days ago, after this training, many people began to truly realize that internships are a process of competing on the speed of progress.
Many people have already felt the pressure.
Because not everyone has a talent for delicate work like sewing, watching others improve rapidly in the practice room while you struggle to get the hang of it can actually be very detrimental to your mindset.
We are all students at the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Medicine. No one is truly mediocre. The more outstanding the talent in an environment, the stronger the competitive atmosphere becomes.
A truly capable doctor is the one who stands out in every competitive environment.
Then, in a new environment like the University of Tokyo Hospital, a new round of competition will begin.
Mindset, talent, perseverance.
The only three things we can rely on.
While Lin Ze, along with his team members Sano Chizuru and Miyagi Suzuo, were talking at the back of the group.
As they walked out of the teaching building, the person at the front suddenly stopped. Then a commotion arose, and the interns all stopped and began a brief uproar.
It's quite far away.
Lin Ze didn't hear clearly, nor did he care, but when he went over, all the other interns stopped in their tracks.
They all looked up, their faces showing lingering shock.
"Is someone going to jump off a building?!"
"I can't see it clearly, where is it?"
"I saw it! I saw it!"
"Is there a girl at the very top of the teaching building?"
"That's too dangerous! It looks like he's about to jump."
"She's still walking."
The sunlight was blinding.
Amidst the interns' exclamations of utter astonishment, Lin Ze looked up in surprise. He squinted slightly, and due to the intense sunlight, he had no choice but to shield his forehead with his hand.
He saw that there was clearly a girl on the teaching building.
She strolled alone on the rooftop above the 23rd floor, her steps light and graceful.
The wind made her hair dance in the air.
Without railings, even a slight tilt of the body on the rooftop could cause someone to fall from the 23rd floor and land on solid ground.
She walked on as if nothing had happened.
Her gait exuded a nonchalant disregard for life, as if she were strolling in her own backyard, her hands behind her back, sunlight filtering through her hair.
Dyed gold and red, along with the black pantyhose.
Until she reached the very center, turned around, and shone the earth in place of the sunlight.
……
On the rooftop.
There was no fear in the girl's eyes; in fact, she was humming a song in a very good mood.
She ignored the man kneeling beside her, too afraid to approach, and continued to plead and weep. The man bowed his head, his forehead already covered in blood.
He continued to kowtow, as if he had forgotten the pain.
"Young Miss, I beg you... please come down! It's too dangerous! The chairman will kill me!"
The girl walked lightly, without the slightest bit of tension.
She didn't even look at him.
"Young Miss, you can do whatever you want, but please don't risk your life. This is only your third day at school. I won't be able to explain anything if something happens to you. I beg you..."
"Just take pity on me..."
The man's suit was covered in dust.
His humble demeanor was worse than that of a dog.
However, even with such pleas, the girl remained indifferent.
She turned around capriciously at the very edge, then bent her knees, braced her elbows against the very corner of the teaching building, and to everyone's astonishment, the girl sat down directly.
"Don't ruin my good mood, get out of my way!" came the chilling words from her mouth.
But the man dared not roll away; he dared not step forward, nor dared he step back, even though he knew the young lady would not actually jump.
But for the bodyguards responsible for her personal safety, going up to the rooftop was something they were not interested in.
It's already a catastrophe.
Teaching downstairs.
More and more students gathered, and even some teachers and staff noticed the crowd and rushed over to look up at the scene with the students.
