Chapter 35 Heading to the Celestial Team

Chapter 35 - Heading to the Celestial Team

Mind flayers, also known as spirit flayers, are a rather unique and powerful species. They have slender limbs, enormous heads, and four long, tough tentacles growing from their faces, making them look like an octopus that has been lifted out and attached to the head of an extremely thin human.

It's strange, but also very powerful.

They rarely engage in close combat and are not adept at using weapons or armor. Their facial tentacles, used for feeding, might occasionally serve as a means of self-defense. But more often, they rely on another kind of power.

Psychic abilities, telekinesis.

Any mind flayer can easily wield this innate power. They can freely read the thoughts of mortals and manipulate the minds of the weak. They can use their immense psychic abilities to construct barriers or inflict lashes. And when necessary, they can concentrate and release the psychic energy within their brains to create extremely destructive psychic blasts.

They are practically a superior replacement for the burrowing worms, since for a psionic race like mind flayers, learning to cast spells is as easy as eating and drinking. Aside from not being able to burrow underground as easily as the burrowing worms and cause massive earthquakes, they are better at many things than the burrowing worms.

and so……

"The corpse of an adult Mind Flayer is worth a thousand reward points."

Si Ming examined the humanoid octopus lying before him, his brow furrowing slightly before relaxing. From a culinary perspective, one burrowing worm was worth at least two hundred mind flayers. However, the price of a mind flayer was only about a third less than that of a burrowing worm.

That's incredibly uneconomical. Didn't the Supreme God consider that some reincarnators might actually have unusual tastes and a strong liking for fresh Mind Flayers? Or perhaps...

"The mind flayer's brain is quite valuable, isn't it?"

This is a good thing.

This means that if the Mind Flayer's brain can be activated, then at least most of its abilities can be replicated. And now is the perfect time to dare to try.

"wake."

The necromantic aura equivalent to ten skeleton soldiers was infused into it, and the body of the dead adult Mind Flayer immediately came to life again. It supported itself and stood up. But just like the previous awakened creatures at the beginning, it could only clumsily wave its slender limbs, using muscles that were not its strengths.

Then, inject the fighting spirit of the night.

The dim light brightened. The murky, blurred eyes regained their dynamism. The Mind Flayer, which had been standing somewhat strangely on the ground, suddenly became light. Its slender body also floated slightly.

The Mind Flayer's brain was activated. And a mental link, similar to that of the previous burrowing worm, reappeared in Siming's perception. His awakened being shared the immense perceptual power granted by that extraordinary brain domain. Unlike the burrowing worm, which was somewhat delayed in its operation, the Mind Flayer's mental perception was clearly much faster and more agile!

Si Ming had a sudden thought.

"shield."

An invisible shield of psychic energy immediately formed around Siming and his Mind Flayer servants. It was undoubtedly a comprehensive and robust protection. He retreated, moving out of the shield's protective range. His various firearms then swiftly fired towards the shield's surface.

.22LR bullets were completely ineffective, like dust.

A 9mm reinforced bullet is like a light dust cloud blown by the wind.

12.7mm rifle bullets and 12-gauge explosive shotgun shells could barely create ripples on the shield surface.

Only the more powerful and destructive fusion thermal energy ball could make the Mind Flayer's psychic shield shake uncontrollably when fired in rapid succession!
It just shakes, it doesn't collapse.

After the barrage ended, the psychic shield quickly regained its stability. Apart from a slight feeling of hunger transmitted through telepathy that could be remedied by eating or using energy, the Mind Flayer suffered almost no loss.

Strength, very good.

but……

“I can control more than one of these units.”

A second Mind Flayer appeared beside Si Ming, followed by a third. By the time he felt his mind starting to swell, a total of four Mind Flayers had appeared in his field of vision.

Now, even if he pulled the trigger of the Fusion Gun all the way down, he couldn't shake the psychic shield formed by the four Mind Flayers. And with a flick of his finger forward, a combined psychic blast, a massive cone-shaped shockwave visible to the naked eye, slammed forward!

Sand and stones flew everywhere, and the calm lake water suddenly split open into huge channels on both sides. The powerful shockwave pushed straight forward for hundreds of meters before it began to disintegrate and fade.

It is incredibly powerful. And this power wasn't specifically designed to create craters.

In addition, the mind flayers' telekinetic powers can also lift him up, allowing him to levitate, or conserve energy for flight relying on the burst of battle qi.

"...It's improved quite a bit."

But I still have a lot of energy left to grow.

He glanced at his attribute table, which had been enhanced with BB-level upgrades and benefited from the Blood Bodhi buff, and smiled slightly. He still had plenty of reward points left; if he used them all, he could easily push all his stats to four digits!
"Six attributes, a thousand points... Damn, that's outrageous." Even the usually mild-mannered Si Ming couldn't help but swear. But even so, he wouldn't resist the plan to become stronger. And when that huge, cold reward points were completely transformed into warm attribute parameters, he turned his gaze back to the awakened and activated Byaki. He could no longer feel the mental pollution. But he could definitely sense some strange power emanating from Byaki's body and affecting its outer surface.

It looked like a bizarre, giant bird with bat-like wings, a multi-lobed maw that resembled both a demon and a spider, and a terrifying chest cavity. Numerous horns, tentacles, and scales covered its entire body. But unlike the inescapable, pungent stench of the original, the undead Byakki lacked that overwhelmingly terrifying odor.

Simin landed lightly on Byaki's back. He knew that this mythical creature, which had cost him two thousand reward points, didn't actually possess many special powers. It only had one talent, one function: to travel between different regions, countries, and even planets as a means of transportation.

Dimensional teleportation.

Long-distance dimensional teleportation.

With a thought, the ability was activated. The next moment, Byakki and Simin, who was riding on its back, vanished into thin air and reappeared in a field 100 kilometers away, temporarily created within their personal space!
My head... feels a little dizzy.

The teleportation process was painless, but after it ended, a noticeable discomfort arose in his body. Even with all six attributes maxed out at 1000, it took Siming several seconds to recover. Meanwhile, the Byakki beneath his feet remained completely unaffected.

"Some coordination measures may be needed."

Si Ming knew this; within the rules of the Cthulhu Mythos, ordinary people must drink a special drug called 'Golden Mead' before embarking on interstellar travel aboard a Byakki. Its sole effect is to temporarily halt the traveler's physical and spiritual processes, thus mitigating damage during interstellar travel—obviously, as a reincarnator who constantly needs to prepare for battle, such a potentially self-destructive drug was absolutely out of the question for Si Ming. This meant that if he wanted to engage in high-speed combat aboard a Byakki, he would likely have to find another way.

"Maybe you'll get used to it after a while?"

Good idea, worth a try.

And that seems to be the case.

After ten repeated teleportations, to the point that Byakki needed to rest, the brief moment of vulnerability was finally reduced to less than a second. And if one were even stronger, or had developed effective riding techniques, this weakness would be completely eliminated.

well.

In this way, the short-leggedness defect has also been successfully overcome. Now, in terms of attack, defense, survival, endurance, burst damage, and mobility, every aspect has been perfectly handled by Siming.

Is there anything else that needs to be checked and filled?
Si Ming thought he might consider the cleanup aspect more. However, the most convenient and professionally relevant field of plague research only flashed through his mind before he quickly rejected it.

no need.

It's best to be cautious about operations that are so unpredictable that they could easily lead to unethical behavior.

Si Ming knew that in the primordial world of reincarnation, there existed something called 'luck'. Doing good deeds always had a better future than doing bad deeds. Therefore, after confirming that he couldn't stand his Japanese teammates from 2007, he chose to leave instead of staying to start a breeding team. Of course, his own disdain for breeding was also a major reason.

Beyond that, actions such as spreading plagues, wanton slaughter, or even destroying the world should naturally be avoided if possible, and if unavoidable, should be minimized.

and so……

Si Ming turned his head and equipped his four Mind Flayer guards with camouflage cloaks. Combined with the simple illusions that Mind Flayers could create with their own psychic abilities, they at least appeared much more respectable.

He practiced for a while longer.

He became more familiar with his own power—he vaguely remembered that the first-generation captain of the Central Continent Team had unlocked the third-tier genetic lock during his captain certification, and could also sense that four non-Demon Team members in the entire Reincarnation World had already reached this level. Unfortunately, he seemed to lack this sensing ability, and now he didn't know how far this Reincarnation World, which was suspected to be the first generation, had progressed.

—It shouldn't be the later stage, but at least the early to mid-stage.

—With the addition of BB at the second level, it should be able to protect itself.

It's almost time.

He waved his hand, storing all the summoned creatures into his summoning space. Eve was already prepared and waiting for him, so he reached out and handed Eve a scroll.

"Do you remember what I told you before?" Si Ming asked.

“Mm.” Eve hugged the scroll and nodded. “If I suddenly appear outside my personal space, don’t worry about anything. Just run straight to the room with your personal mark. If you can’t get to the room immediately, use this scroll right away. And if you can’t even use the scroll, then relax your mind, trust you completely, and cooperate to trigger the power you left in my body.”

She remembered it clearly, and Si Ming nodded slightly.

These are all insurance policies, and Si Ming doesn't want to use them if he can.

So……

He took a light breath.

"Lord God, I agree to become a reincarnator of the Celestial Team."
