Chapter 90, Section 89: The Kitchen
Chapter 90, Section 89: The Kitchen
A breeze blew in through the stained-glass window as Sheen drank pumpkin juice that Justin had somehow gotten his hands on.
A few wisps of thin clouds floated in the sky like white flowers in an oil painting, and the sunshine felt warm and cozy on my skin.
Sleep grants spirits, ghosts, and reincarnations freedom of movement, and distance poses no obstacle to them.
People who are far apart can establish instant communication, sometimes in a semi-dialogue state.
These are Professor McGonagall's notes on the ancient concept of "reincarnation," and understanding these notes is helpful for the transformation of the "self" into a "living being."
If one could master it in depth, then perhaps the wizard could learn the Animagus introduced in "Intermediate Transfiguration".
Although the Animagus might not be of much help, Sheen was still somewhat looking forward to this unique experience.
As for the idea of dreams and reincarnation, Sheen seemed to have a clue. In the original Goblet of Fire, Harry had a dream.
In my dream, Cho Chang, Cedric, and his fire crossbow appeared.
Later, "the dream took shape..." Harry's body changed, turning into a snake.
This might be what was written in the notes:
Those who are unaware that they possess a clone... interpret what they see as a dream, but those who are aware know very well that they are not dreaming, but have conjured a clone.
Harry, Voldemort, and Nagini are each other's "bodies," so he knew this concept. Principal Dumbledore later told Harry that he had been paying attention to Nagini for a long time.
Indeed, magic has developed for so long, and nothing about it is so simple; sometimes, it is as complex as an esoteric book.
Without a qualified guide, young wizards will find it difficult to understand.
If Professor McGonagall hadn't given Sheehan her notes, Sheehan would have had to try his luck at the library to access this in-depth knowledge.
Just like James and Sirius, after mastering the Animagus, they were even able to teach Peter Pettigrew the Animagus.
This proves that in the magical world, hands-on teaching by master and apprentice has always been highly effective.
Leaves rustled outside the window, and the wind rushed in through the cracks, only to be chased away by the roaring flames of the fireplace.
Sheen noticed that Justin had Neville use the Levitation Charm to pass him a piece of parchment—
Neville's face was flushed, and he didn't dare to look away for a moment. Only when the parchment fell did he breathe a long sigh of relief.
Then a genuine joy welled up in Mr. Longbottom's heart, and he heard a surprised voice beside him:
"Well done, Neville!"
“The gesture with your left hand needs to be bigger—I mean, a big improvement, Neville.”
……
Sheen took the parchment from the front of the wooden table; the writing on it seemed to have warmth in the firelight:
Oh, Sheen, I've wanted to ask you this for a long time.
When can we talk about the Chocolate Frog cards again? Or the ever-changing ceiling of the Hogwarts Great Hall?
Do you know what those toads in the Potions class glass case remind me of?
It's the chocolate frog you helped me catch.
Would you like to take a look at the kitchens at Hogwarts?
Just you, me, and Hermione.
Okay, Sheen, I know you're busy.
But I want to tell you that it's not just those magical spells that need you, but also us.
Sheehan was slightly taken aback. He saw Justin and Hermione looking at him at the same time. Hermione's eyes were only visible behind the book, while Justin was smiling sincerely at him.
……
"House-elves?!"
As they walked from the Great Hall to the kitchen, Hermione couldn't help but gasp in surprise.
"Are they the house-elves who can cast spells without a wand, and who typically live in ancient wizarding families residing in elegant manors and other refined dwellings?" "Yes,"
Faced with Hermione's excited question, Justin also showed a curious expression.
"Hermione, are you curious about them?"
"certainly,"
Hermione took out "Hogwarts: A History" from her bag, pointed to the text, and said to Sheehan and Justin,
“Hogwarts is inhabited by a group of house-elves, but I’ve never seen them… They’re said to usually hide from wizards, so—”
Her nose was held high.
Are you sure you found them?
"If... these are..."
Justin gently scratched the emerald green pear in the painting. It wriggled its body, made a snickering sound, and then turned into a glittering golden door knocker.
“The ‘Never Go Hungry’ Club welcomes you here… So, open the door, Hermione.”
Hermione looked nervously at Sheehan and Justin. Justin gestured for them to proceed, while Sheehan nodded silently.
With a creak,
The first thing that catches the eye is the dome, which, although not as tall, is no less large than the auditorium above.
Four extremely long wooden tables—exactly the same as the dining tables of the four houses upstairs—were neatly arranged to ensure that the elves could accurately deliver the food to the corresponding house.
Inside the enormous fireplace, flames leaped merrily year-round, with copper pots hanging above, capable of simmering soup for hundreds of people at once. But what was most awe-inspiring was the pervasive, simultaneous magic that permeated the entire space.
"Transfer spell, levitation spell, and many food spells, all cast silently and without a wand... So this is the kitchen at Hogwarts."
Hermione looked around excitedly, quilling her pen as she took notes.
"Was the food that suddenly appeared a gift from your house-elves?"
Sheen said softly.
"You guessed it."
Justin was not surprised at all.
"Oh, Sheen, you can tell them what you want to eat. By the way, I don't know why, but it seems like the elves all like you a lot..."
Just then, a skinny, tiny elf appeared before Sheen.
It has ears as big as bats, protruding eyes the size of tennis balls, and a rather long and flat nose.
It was being pushed and shoved, as if the elves had chosen it to ask the young wizards its purpose.
"Welcome, welcome, Mr. Green. Would you like something to eat?"
Sheen was somewhat confused.
"Well, do you know me?"
“Of course, Mr. Sheehan Green, we have been looking forward to your arrival.”
It spoke hesitantly, saying things that Sheen couldn't understand.
"may I know your name?"
Sheen didn't ask a question right away; he asked softly.
"Oh! Oh! It's my honor."
The little elf in tattered clothes spoke in a soft voice.
“My name is Ira, Mr. Green.”
"Ira? Okay, can I ask you a question? Why...do you know me?"
Sheen didn't think he should be noticed by the elves, just as he didn't think he would be very popular among the first-year wizards.
