Night Journey
Chapter 134 The Wonderful Moment
Chapter 134 The Wonderful Moment
The streets after the rain were like a scattering of broken mirrors, with the sky and street scenes reflected in the puddles.
After Cillian changed her clothes, Mefuni dragged her to the party location, not giving her a chance to go back to sleep.
"The gathering is in the afternoon, but we still need to prepare in advance."
That's what she said.
"Hey young lady, do you really enjoy parties that much?!"
Cillian complained.
Maefuni was somewhat interested in the story of the Reverse Falcon, but what attracted her more was the party itself.
She never refuses a party, let alone misses one.
After learning about this from Elton, Maefuni volunteered to help, offering to choose a venue for the party and provide a range of drinks and food.
Elton initially wanted to decline, but considering the care Mafone had shown him in the past and how much she enjoyed lively atmospheres, he agreed.
“Dailin and Anya will also be there, but they will arrive later. As for the others, they will basically be my audience. I will introduce them to you one by one later.”
Cillian's strong-arm approach to education was very effective; Elton now speaks with less hesitation.
Water vapor condensed into low-lying clouds above Hull, and soon, due to the cooling effect of the Lighthouse, a light drizzle began to fall.
"So annoying."
Mafoni complained and took shelter under the eaves to avoid getting her clothes wet.
Cillian sighed, skillfully took a folding umbrella from his bag, and held it over Mefone's head.
It must be admitted that, under Mefuni's tutelage, Cillian has become a professional personal butler.
The rain was light, but unusually cold, stinging my face like needles. It clashed with the heat emanating from the Lighthouse, creating a thicker, damp fog that enveloped the entire Lighthouse in a hazy, indistinct mist.
Gradually, this hazy fog engulfed the inner city and spread to the outer city, landing on the streets. Visibility rapidly decreased, and distant buildings were reduced to blurry silhouettes. Pedestrians nearby moved through the fog like ghosts, their voices heard but their faces unseen.
Hull City continued its tireless operation, the roar of machinery, the hiss of exhaust pipes, and the distant sound of steam whistles all intertwining and carrying further through the fog with a dull echo.
"Ugh! How annoying!"
Mefone complained loudly, pulling her fog-dampened cloak tighter around herself.
Cillian laughed heartily; he never missed an opportunity to mock Mefone.
After walking for a while, Maefuni led the two to the venue of tonight's party, and as Cillian expected, it was indeed the Ink House again.
"Oh, you all arrived very early."
Martin waved enthusiastically to the group; he was not only the bartender but also the owner.
"The venue is already cleared out. If there's anything else that needs to be prepared or arranged, just ring the bell to call me."
After Martin finished speaking, he disappeared from everyone's sight, giving them back their private space.
Warm yellow string lights were wrapped around the bar, nut dishes were piled up in a low mound on the wooden table, and an old record player was spinning in the corner, playing blues melodies mixed with the aroma of whiskey. There was no alcohol present, but it brewed a slightly intoxicating warmth in the air.
Cillian sat down on the high chair, rang the dining bell, and Martin, who had just disappeared, quickly emerged from the shadows.
"What can I do for you?"
"Just get me something to eat."
Cillian clutched her stomach. Mefuni had come too fast. She hadn't even had a chance to go back to sleep, and she hadn't even eaten.
"Oh, give me one too."
Mefuni sat down next to Cillian and raised her hand like a student.
A few minutes later, Martin brought over two steaming hot meals.
One serving was Cillian's fries, chicken nuggets, and fried chicken legs; he was very fond of this crispy fried food. Maefanie's serving was fried eggs, salad, and a sandwich.
The young lady has gained a little weight recently and is trying to maintain her figure, although Cillian thinks her figure is already perfect.
“There’s a problem, Mafone.”
Cillian wiped the last bit of ketchup off the fries. "Is the Ink House a property of your Lof family?"
"No, what's wrong?"
Meifuni chewed on a leafy green and answered without hesitation.
Cillian didn't press further. "It's nothing, I just noticed that you really like this place and feel completely at ease here."
"It's safe here."
"It's very safe here," Mefone said in a very serious tone.
"why?"
Cillian sensed her implication and countered, "It's just an ordinary club."
"Is it really that simple?"
Mefuni chuckled, piquing Cillian's curiosity.
"This approach is all too common," Cillian said bluntly.
"Forget it if you don't tell me."
"Hey, what's wrong with you? Can't you at least ask a few more questions?"
Cillian shook his head. "No, it would make it seem like I'm coercing you."
Meifuni remained silent, her face flushed red.
Her emotions were like a kettle of hot water gradually boiling, about to explode, when Cillian timely controlled the temperature.
"Then... please, Miss Love, tell me the secret of the Ink House."
Meifuni's complexion returned to normal at a visible speed. She took a deep breath and suddenly smiled.
"No."
"Huh?" "I don't want to tell you."
Meifuni said confidently, "I'm not stupid. This tactic only needs to be used once. You think it can work twice?"
During their time together, the two engaged in a lot of scheming and backstabbing, and Mefuni had long since figured out most of Cillian's tactics.
This time, Cillian's face turned red, and Mefuni skillfully controlled the temperature.
"There's not much I can tell you, except... this is related to my destiny."
"Destiny?"
Cillian blinked, then belatedly realized, "Oh, I almost forgot, you're an extraordinary being too."
"What! What offensive thing are you saying!"
Mafoni picked up her fork, ready to teach Cillian a lesson.
This cannot be blamed on Cillian. Meifuni has worked in the City Guard Bureau for so long, but she has always been an office worker and never goes to the front line. In her daily life, she has no experience using Source Energy.
Over time, people gradually forgot that Mefuni was a superhuman, and only the surname Love remained shining brightly.
It was only at this point that Cillian belatedly realized, suddenly understood, and had a moment of clarity.
It turns out that Maefuni is actually a superhuman.
"You've never really told me which destiny you're in."
"The Three Sages, or the Six Giants?"
"Oh... could it be a lost destiny?"
Cillian clung to Mafoni, chattering incessantly.
Maefuni looked smug. She had always been the one guessing Cillian's secrets, but now it was finally his turn to guess hers.
"Don't tell you."
Mefney reminded her, "Don't forget, you haven't collected all your vehicles yet."
Cillian's arrogant demeanor was instantly extinguished, and he earnestly reflected on his actions.
"I got carried away with my success."
"That's pretty much it."
Clearly, Mefuni won this round.
Footsteps sounded from outside, and Anya and Dailin appeared one after the other.
"Why are you two here together again?" Maefuni questioned. "Could it be... you're living together now?"
Once the truth was revealed, Dai Lin's expression immediately turned awkward, while Anya remained calm and changed the subject.
What kind of party are you planning this time?
"It wasn't me, I just provided the venue. You'll have to ask Elton for details."
Meghan looked around. "Oh! Where's Elton?"
After searching for a while, the group found Elton in a corner, where he was picking up a stack of pre-written manuscripts and repeatedly reading their contents.
Cillian listened from a distance; it seemed to be about the story of the Reverse Falcon, along with some opening remarks.
Elton is indeed not good at socializing, but this is a good start.
Time passed slowly, and guests gradually arrived, all there to join the party, slowly filling the empty bar.
Elton introduced Cillian and the others to each other. At first, he struggled to speak, as if he were reciting a script. But soon he got used to it and started chatting with everyone.
“Elton performed better than I expected,” Cillian commented. “I thought he wouldn’t be able to say a word in front of a crowd.”
Dalyn defended Elton, saying, "When he was hosting the radio show, Elton was just talking to thin air, but now he's facing real people, so it's inevitable that he'll get nervous."
"But he looks pretty good now, much more charming than when he worked at the City Guard Bureau."
Anya swirled her wine glass and said admiringly, "Others will be amazed to see Elton like this."
"Hmm."
Meifuni chewed on a cookie and made a muffled affirmation.
A cheerful sound rang out, and the woman pushed open the door and entered.
"Oh! Everyone, you're here so early!"
Immediately afterwards, her male companion followed her in. Compared to the woman's flamboyance, he was clearly much more humble and said apologetically.
"I'm sorry, everyone, the party was supposed to be in the evening, but after what happened recently... we're a bit afraid of the night, so we'll have to move it to the afternoon."
“It’s alright, Paul,” someone comforted him. “Tell us what happened!”
"Yes, everyone's been waiting for this for a long time!"
The crowd erupted in cheers and laughter.
Looking at the last man and woman to arrive, Cillian felt a touch of emotion upon seeing them again.
Mefuni noticed Cillian's gaze and asked curiously.
"Do you know them?"
Cillian shook his head, then nodded. "We only met once."
"Then why have you been staring at that woman... Wow, Cillian, you wouldn't be like this!"
After spending a lot of time with Cillian, Mefuni has picked up some of his neurotic tendencies.
She exclaimed in anguish, "She has a boyfriend! You can't do this kind of thing!"
"Shut up, you!"
Cillian pinched Mafoni's lips.
