Chapter 105 Hurrah! Vodka! Crunches!

Well, the lieutenant general is right.

Andrei is just a nobody now, getting involved in this messy struggle is pointless and won't change anything.

What he needs to do now is to take care of himself and not give the enemy any leverage.

However, to be fair, Andrei really didn't expect that his cheap father was actually a front army commander.

If we draw an analogy to the Soviet-German War, I wonder what role my father played. Was he equivalent to Marshal Voroshilov?

Filled with doubt, Andrei returned once again to the school that served as his temporary residence, escorted by a messenger in a military vehicle.

As soon as he got back, he ran towards the cafeteria, not for any other reason than to quickly grab something to eat.

Although his body is now like a player's and he doesn't get hungry, that doesn't mean he has no appetite.

On the contrary, he hadn't even finished the secret-recipe mini hamburgers he made for himself before they were taken away by the messenger. How could he not make up for the missed meal?
However, he was stunned by the sight before him as soon as he pushed open the cafeteria door.

He assumed that his soldiers had finished eating and should hurry off to rest.

To everyone's surprise, even after so much time had passed, not a single soldier had left the mess hall. The entire mess hall was packed with people, all staring at the door!
Upon seeing Andrei push open the door and enter, the soldiers immediately erupted in a joyful cheer.

"Great! I knew it! Captain Vorontsov is definitely not the traitor they say he is. Those damned black dogs can't take him away!"

"Let those black dogs die! Brothers, let us celebrate the return of our hero, hurrah!"

Looking at the group of soldiers surrounding him, asking him questions and showing him great concern, Andrei was immediately moved.

Although he didn't know most of them, Andrei didn't know the names of many of the people present.

Even so, he still felt genuine care from these people.

"Everyone, thank you for your trust. Those black-skinned dogs didn't do anything to me!"

"You don't need to worry. The lieutenant general only asked me about some details of the battle and discussed some tactical issues with me. It's nothing serious!"

"Those who haven't eaten enough, hurry up and eat, then get some rest later. Also, don't drink too much alcohol!"

The last sentence comes because Andrei saw several guys already holding bottles of liquor and starting to chug them down.

Honestly, in his opinion, drinking is fine, but it's best not to drink like that during wartime!

Drinking can lead to trouble, and that's no joke. If the enemy suddenly attacks or bombs you, and you're so drunk you're unconscious, wouldn't that be a disaster?
Unfortunately, the atmosphere has already been built up to this point, how can we not have a drink?

Therefore, everyone present ignored Andrei's last words, pretending they hadn't heard a thing.

Sigh, forget it, there's no way to persuade them!

Andrei sighed, realizing how naive he had been to try and persuade a bunch of Russians not to drink. While rationally speaking, drinking was indeed wrong at this time, from another perspective, they had endured immense psychological pressure in the previous battles and certainly needed an outlet for their emotions.

Compared to other ways of venting, smoking and drinking seem to be relatively harmless.

Watching the soldiers making a ruckus, Andrei's thoughts had already drifted off to who-knows-where.

He is now recalling the maps he saw earlier at headquarters and comparing them with the maps he is familiar with in his mind.

Although he didn't see a large enough map, he could figure it out based on what he saw so far and the place names marked on it.

The map of this world seemed similar to the map of Leningrad in his memory during the Soviet Patriotic War. At least the general terrain should match his memory, and even many place names were familiar to him.

So, is this some kind of absurd parallel world?
Recalling worldviews like the Trench Crusades, the British Peace, or Dano 1912, Andrei suddenly felt a splitting headache.

He just hoped that his worldview wasn't too outrageous, and that the Black Hawk Empire on the other side wouldn't come up with any more strange things.

Although, judging from the current situation, he has already seen quite a few strange things.

I wonder what amazing things the Cambrian Empire has. Surely the Cambrian Empire isn't really that much behind the Black Hawk Empire?
Although he didn't see many Cambrian Empire units that caught his eye on the battlefield, it was understandable considering that his troops seemed to be mostly cannon fodder and he encountered other cannon fodder units as well.

The joy of surviving the ordeal made these soldiers a bit unruly, and a bunch of them got completely drunk.

So much so that in the end, even people like Andrei, who hadn't drunk much and were still able to stay sober, had to carry these guys one by one into the large dormitory where they slept.

Watching one drunken soldier after another being carried into a trolley, then pushed to the entrance of the teaching building by others, and then carried up on their backs, Andrei felt as if he were transporting corpses.

Fortunately, he wasn't tired yet; otherwise, he felt he would have collapsed from exhaustion after carrying so many people up there.

The next morning, when the soldiers woke up, they were a little embarrassed to learn that they had been carried up by their company commander himself while they were completely drunk.

However, Andrei simply waved his hand at the soldiers who ran over to apologize to him, without scolding them much. He just told them to be careful next time and not to get so drunk like they did today.

This can barely be considered a celebration, but it's a one-time exception!
If they dare to do this again, don't blame him for using battlefield discipline to intimidate them!

After Andrei and his men arrived at their post, they rested there for a whole day. It wasn't until the evening of the second day that a clerk from the headquarters arrived.

Upon arriving at the door of the single dormitory assigned to Andrei, he knocked on the door and took out a small box.

"Sir, what is this?"

Andrei hurriedly put on his military uniform and barely managed to tidy himself up before he saw the box handed to him as soon as he stepped out.

The clerk opened the box first, handed it to Andrei, and then respectfully saluted him, saying:

"Sir, the Northwestern Front Personnel Department hereby promotes Captain Andrei Konstantinovich Vorontsov to the rank of lieutenant colonel, effective immediately, based on his outstanding performance in the previous war!"
