Chapter 67 FBI Director, Serious Undercover
It's like this.

My name is John Edgar Hoover.

Although no one knows it yet, in the future, I will become the founder of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and its controller for decades. My name will strike fear into the hearts of criminals, and my power will make even the occupant of the White House wary.

Of course, these are all things to be discussed later, and I myself don't know yet.

Right now, I'm just an ambitious young assistant minister in the Bureau of Investigation (BOI) who's eager to make a name for myself.

The chaos in Chicago and the looming "dark hand" kept the Bureau of Investigation on its toes, as conventional investigative methods seemed unable to get to the heart of the matter.

So I made a bold decision—to infiltrate the gang as an undercover agent.

At first, things didn't go very well. The gangs in Chicago were too feudal. Shit, it's the 20th century, can't we have some capitalism?

Suddenly, a turning point appeared.

The Mafia and the Irish gang have started recruiting "talented individuals" with "special skills." My heart tightened. Was the mastermind behind this about to make some big move?
I meticulously forged a resume—an “artist” from the East Coast who was skilled at document forgery—and successfully infiltrated the team.

Then... things started to go a little off track.

I had no chance to access any core secrets before I was crammed into a strange place called "Arkham Heroes Academy".

The name sounds like a third-rate circus or a mental hospital rehabilitation center.

My "classmates" were a bunch of oddballs: there was a "pharmacist" obsessed with mixing all sorts of strange chemical liquids, a conman who spent his days figuring out how to swindle elderly people out of their retirement savings at the lowest possible cost, and an "artist" who boasted that he could open any safe with a single wire...

Damn it, how come anyone can call themselves an "artist" in this world?
Returning to the academy itself, are gangsters now getting into vocational education?
It's really a big joke in the world!

I almost burst out laughing; I thought this undercover mission could be written into a pretty good humorous novel.

However, when I actually received those so-called "textbooks" and started my first exchange class, the smile on my face completely froze.

Gentlemen, do you know what crime is like in this day and age?

I call them the "straightforward type," or to be more polite, the "courageous type."

Take robbing a bank as an example. The standard procedure is as follows: a few burly men just pass by the bank, their pockets are empty, and in a moment of impulsiveness, they dare to grab their weapons and rush into the bank, fire a few shots at the ceiling to scare people, point the guns at the trembling manager, open the vault, stuff the money into a sack, and then jump into the car at the door and speed away.

Simple, brutal, success or failure depends entirely on brute force and luck.

The police and our special agents had a headache dealing with it, but at least there were clues to follow.

But here at Arkham College, in the textbook "Robbery: From Beginner to Expert," bank robbery is transformed into a precise science! A technical skill!

What kind of rubbish is this?!

The textbook explains this in detail:

How to conduct reconnaissance of target banks weeks or even months in advance, recording guard shift change times, armored truck patterns, and even the personality and habits of bank managers;

How to use social engineering to obtain internal architectural drawings and security system information of banks;

How to divide tasks based on the characteristics of team members (lookout, driver, demolition, crowd control, transportation);

How to design multiple escape routes and backup plans to deal with a police blockade... And this is just a robbery!
Other courses, such as "Detailed Explanation of Difficult Issues in Explosives Application," are taught by veterans. You will learn about the properties of different explosives and how to accurately calculate the dosage to achieve specific effects (such as blowing open the vault door without causing a collapse)...

"The Scammer: From Novice to Expert" systematically teaches in-depth analysis of psychological manipulation, rhetoric traps, and forgery techniques...

I'm pretty sure my face turned green at that moment.

This advanced study was actually a real, genuine advanced study!
How honest are they?

The technical sophistication and meticulous thinking required for each course here far surpass the investigative techniques currently possessed by most police stations, and even our investigation bureau!
Our Bureau of Investigation, and indeed law enforcement agencies across the United States, are still stuck in the era of horse-drawn carriages in terms of investigative techniques and thinking, while the criminal technology here has already fucking come in cars!

In the past, dealing with those ruthless bandits who only possessed strength was already difficult enough. If in the future we were to face these "heroes" who had undergone "professional training" and knew how to use "scientific methods," wouldn't we be completely overwhelmed?!
The scene was too beautiful to imagine.

What exactly are the Chicago gangs, or rather the forces behind them, trying to achieve?
Are they trying to systematically and systematically corrupt the entire United States?!

At this point, all my contempt and sense of absurdity vanished.

I realized that this seemingly ridiculous "Arkham Academy" might be far more dangerous than I had imagined.

I've considered gathering people to wipe out this "academy" in one fell swoop.

However, the planners behind the scenes seem to have taken this into account, as the academy is not located in a fixed location.

Moreover, I quickly realized that as long as these teaching materials exist and the planners behind them are there, shutting down an existing "academy" won't change anything.

At that moment, my undercover objective also changed.

I'm no longer just looking for a secret route. I must go undercover and uncover all the secrets of Arkham Academy.

I must learn all these courses and figure out their entire routine in order to effectively strike against them in the future!

So I, the future FBI Director, became one of the two most diligent and hardworking students in the first cohort of Arkham Heroes Academy.

I devoured every textbook, whether serious or unserious, taking careful notes, asking questions, and striving to master every "criminal technique."

I soon noticed that there was another guy among the trainees who was just as serious as I was. His name was Tom, and he was probably of German descent.

This sounds like a pseudonym, which is normal; I use a pseudonym too.

This guy not only learns quickly, but his proficiency in the robbery class was so high that he seemed more like a seasoned master than a student.

He could even frequently come up with "suggestions for optimizing teaching materials" that amazed even the instructors, which seemed quite impressive!
You were born a hero, so why did you choose to be one?

I secretly made a mental note of him; my intuition told me that this person was definitely not simple.

Well, nothing in Chicago is simple!
This damned Arkham Heroes Academy is like a giant black vortex, gathering the most dangerous forces.

And I am right at the center of the vortex.

……

Yes, this chapter was indeed written by me, John Edgar Hoover!
