Chapter 64 The Virtuous Granddaughter-in-Law (Please continue reading!)
After finishing his meal, Lu Yuan was about to relax on the sofa to digest when he saw Chen Xiaomiao rushing into the kitchen again.

A short while later, she came out carrying a thermal lunchbox containing a dozen or so freshly cooked dumplings, still steaming hot.

"What are you doing here?"

"I'll take some dumplings to the hospital for Grandma to try."

Chen Xiaomiao tightened the lid of the lunchbox and carefully packed it into a takeout insulated bag.

Lu Yuan was slightly surprised and sat up straight on the sofa: "Grandma is working overtime today?"

“Yes.” Chen Xiaomiao nodded matter-of-factly, but then looked at him with a strange expression: “Didn’t Grandma tell you?”

"..."

Lu Yuan awkwardly touched his nose and said nothing more.

Good heavens, so my own grandson is not as good as a "granddaughter-in-law" who's not even close to being married yet?
But then I thought about it again. Sun Yumei had been rehired by the hospital. At her age, she was still working overtime. She must have encountered some difficult patients.

……

As night deepened, the hospital's inpatient building remained brightly lit.

Lu Yuan parked the car downstairs and waved to Chen Xiaomiao in the passenger seat: "I won't get out of the car, you can go up by yourself."

"middle."

Chen Xiaomiao got off the bus with her lunchbox and walked into the building as if she knew the way well.

As soon as I arrived at the entrance of the hematology department office, I heard Sun Yumei's strong voice coming from inside, as if she was explaining the patient's condition to the family.

Chen Xiaomiao didn't dare to disturb them and waited quietly at the door with her lunchbox in her arms.

A few minutes later, the office door opened, and the patient's family left, expressing their deepest gratitude.

Sun Yumei turned around and saw Chen Xiaomiao standing at the door, which surprised her.

"Xiao Miao, what brings you here?"

"grandmother."

Chen Xiaomiao walked forward shyly and handed over the insulated bag of takeout food: "Today is the beginning of winter, and I... I was thinking of bringing you some dumplings to try."

"Oh dear, you child, you're always causing trouble!"

Sun Yumei scolded playfully, but her aged face broke into a wide smile, every wrinkle radiating joy.

She took the lunchbox, opened the lid, and saw plump, white dumplings squeezed together, the aroma of meat wafting out with the steam.

"Hmm...it smells delicious!"

There were a few young doctors and nurses in the department who were preparing for the night shift, and they all came over after smelling the aroma.

"Hey, Director Sun, who brought you extra food?"

"It looks better than the cafeteria food!"

Sun Yumei was delighted by everyone's praise, so she pushed the lunchbox to the center of the table and said, "Don't just look at it, come and have a taste. My granddaughter-in-law packed quite a lot!"

Everyone took one without being polite.

"Mmm! Delicious! This cabbage and pork filling is absolutely perfect!"

"Thin skin and generous filling, much better than the dumplings sold in restaurants!"

"Director Sun, you are so lucky! Your daughter-in-law is so beautiful and virtuous!"

A constant stream of compliments and praises filled the air, making Sun Yumei beam with joy.

Chen Xiaomiao stood aside, listening to everyone praise her, her cheeks flushed red with embarrassment, but her heart felt as sweet as if she had drunk honey. Her vanity, typical of a feudal woman, was greatly satisfied at this moment.

After everyone finished eating dumplings, they chatted for a while. Sun Yumei glanced at the wall clock; it was almost eight o'clock.

She got up and went to the observation room to check on the patient. After confirming that all vital signs were stable and the patient was out of danger, she took off her white coat and prepared to leave work.

After getting into Lu Yuan's car, Sun Yumei glanced at her grandson, who was playing on his phone in the driver's seat, and gave him a light pat on the shoulder.

"You lazy brat, why don't you go up with Xiao Miao?"

Lu Yuan put away his phone, started the car, and said with a grin, "I was just worried that those nurses in your department would surround you again and ask for my contact information, causing you trouble."

"You are the only one who is poor!"

Sun Yumei chuckled and scolded him, then turned to Chen Xiaomiao and said, "Xiaomiao, keep an eye on him for me. If he doesn't behave, tell me!"

"Um……"

Chen Xiaomiao sat upright, and upon hearing this, simply nodded in a daze.

After dropping Sun Yumei off at her old neighborhood, Lu Yuan turned his car around and drove home. Once in the garage, Lu Yuan parked the car, then suddenly turned to the side and pinched Chen Xiaomiao's soft cheek.

"Tell me, Chen Xiaomiao, have you grown too big for your britches?!"

"What... Waaaaah?"

Chen Xiaomiao's face was being pinched by him, and her speech was muffled, as if she had two marshmallows stuffed in her mouth.

Lu Yuan let go of her hand, deliberately putting on a stern face: "Still playing dumb with me! You really went to Grandma to tell on me?"

"I don't have any..."

Chen Xiaomiao rubbed her face, looking completely innocent.

Lu Yuan snorted, took out his phone from his pocket, opened the WeChat interface, and handed it to her.

On the screen was a transfer notification from "Sun Yumei," for a sum of 10,000 yuan.

Below the transfer details, there is also an unread voice message.

Lu Yuan tapped his finger, and Sun Yumei's voice, tinged with slight anger, immediately came through the receiver—

"You brat, you eat and drink well yourself, but you don't even know to buy Xiaomiao a couple of thick clothes? Look at what the child is wearing, it's already winter and she's still so thin!"
"Hurry up and take that girl to the mall to buy her some decent clothes. Don't be so stingy, you hear me!"

Chen Xiaomiao stood there, stunned, her mind buzzing.

Only then did she belatedly realize that in the office earlier, Sun Yumei had held her hand and asked if she was cold, and also asked how much her clothes cost.

Without thinking, she honestly answered – 200 for two sets of four pieces…

Lu Yuan looked at her blank and dazed appearance, feeling both annoyed and amused.

"Alright, I'll take the money. I'll take you to buy new clothes tomorrow."

He paused, then changed the subject, his tone carrying a hint of "threat".

"But you're not allowed to criticize me again or pick those cheap items, or I'll get yelled at again, understand?"

Chen Xiaomiao blinked and nodded obediently.

That seems to be the logic...

But she felt something was off, like she had been tricked by Lu Yuan again?

Lu Yuan looked at her furrowed brows and deep-seated thoughts, and couldn't help but laugh inside, but he maintained a serious expression on his face.

"What's wrong? Can't figure it out?"

Chen Xiaomiao raised her head, her little face scrunched up, and said in a sullen voice, "Grandma gave me ten thousand yuan, is it all for buying me clothes?"

"That's not the case!"

"Ten thousand yuan, that's enough to build a small brick house..."

"Tiled house?"

Lu Yuan reached out and unbuckled his seatbelt, sighing softly, "These days, ten thousand yuan can't even build a tiled house, let alone buy a toilet."

"But it's still too much..."

Chen Xiaomiao anxiously counted on her fingers: "My clothes only cost a hundred yuan a set. The money my grandma gave me could buy a hundred sets. I could wear them for my next life and still not finish them!"

"Who told you to buy a hundred sets! I'm asking you, why did Grandma give you this money?"

"Because...because I said the clothes were cheap..."

"That's it."

Lu Yuan snapped his fingers: "So this money isn't for you to buy a hundred cheap sets, it's for you to buy a few 'not cheap' items, so that she can rest assured, understand?"

He deliberately emphasized the words "not cheap".

Chen Xiaomiao still felt uneasy and muttered softly, "But I don't feel comfortable wearing these clothes... They're so expensive. I work every day. If they get torn or stained with oil, I'll be heartbroken."

"If it gets scratched, we'll mend it; if it gets oily, we'll wash it. Clothes are all the same..." Lu Yuan said casually, "Besides, you're my wife, that's why Grandma spends money on you!"

He paused deliberately, and sure enough, he saw that the tips of Chen Xiaomiao's ears had turned slightly red.

"Even though it's fake..."

Lu Yuan slowly added the second half of the sentence, admiring Chen Xiaomiao's face change from red to white, before continuing, "But it has to be presentable. If you dress well, I'll be proud, and Grandma will be happy too. It's a win-win-win situation, isn't it?"

Chen Xiaomiao was completely bewildered by his twisted logic. She opened her mouth, then finally squeezed out a resentful remark.

"You have so many fallacies..."
