Chapter 60 Sharing a Bed (Please continue reading!)
Chen Xiaomiao then realized what was happening, as if she had just woken up from a dream.

I was so happy to have the "imperial sword" that I didn't think about this at all!
She hesitated, then asked, "Should I go talk to Grandma?"

"late!"

Lu Yuan sighed and said slowly, "The old lady is as cunning as a monkey. She dug a pit for you to jump into, but you just grabbed some dirt and started filling it in yourself, and then complained that it wasn't solid enough."

He knew perfectly well what was going on.

Sun Yumei probably sensed something was going on between them, but was too embarrassed to question them directly. Now she's sending Sun Yao over as a mobile "spy."

However... it's not necessarily a bad thing.

An elderly woman, at her age, wants to hold her great-grandchildren; I can understand that.

Afterwards, Sun Yumei was called away for an emergency consultation, and Lu Yuan led Sun Yao and Chen Xiaomiao home first.

Upon arriving at the entrance of the residential complex, Lu Yuan deliberately coughed twice: "Wife, you go upstairs first and tidy up the house... don't make it too messy. I'll go with Yao Yao to buy some things."

Chen Xiaomiao understood immediately and rushed upstairs without looking up.

She rushed into her room in a hurry, quickly folded the quilt into a neat square, fluffed up the pillows, and moved her usual writing implements to the study, trying to erase all traces of her life.

At dinner time, there was an extra set of chopsticks and a bowl on the dining table.

Lu Yuan picked up a piece of spare rib for Sun Yao and casually asked about her recent situation.

"It's alright..."

Sun Yao nibbled on a rib and mumbled, "My sister sends me money every month. It's enough for my tuition, living expenses, and medical expenses."

Lu Yuan remembered that Sun Yao's older sister, Sun Yu, was about the same age as him, and it must not be easy for her to bear such an expense at such a young age.

He asked curiously, "What kind of work does your sister do now?"

Sun Yao shook her head: "I don't know either. Every time I ask her, she just tells me to focus on my studies and not worry about anything else."

Lu Yuan then asked, "So, how are your studies going?"

Sun Yao paused in her eating, silence being the best response.

"It's okay, take it slow and you'll catch up eventually. Health is the foundation of everything, so take care of your health first."

Lu Yuan offered words of comfort, understanding the situation perfectly.

Sun Yao spent most of last year preparing for surgery, and afterwards she had to come to Jiangcheng for check-ups every few days, which caused her to fall behind.

The girl wasn't a genius, and the school she attended was just an ordinary high school in the county town; it would be strange if she could keep up...

Sun Yao hadn't even finished eating her rice when her phone, which was on the corner of the table, buzzed. The caller ID showed her sister.

She quickly put down her chopsticks to answer the call, and pressed the speakerphone button. A gentle female voice came from the receiver.

"Yao Yao?"

"Hey, sis!"

"Are you at your cousin's house?"

"Mmm! We're eating now. The food my sister-in-law makes smells amazing!"

As Sun Yao spoke, she handed her phone to Lu Yuan.

"Xiaoyu, Yaoyao is at my house. Don't worry, I'll be with her for her follow-up appointment."

"You've really gone to so much trouble, cousin..."

Sun Yu thanked him sincerely, and then turned the topic back to Sun Yao.

"Yaoyao, you must behave well at your cousin's house and not cause him any trouble."

"Try to read more books when you have time. Your teacher called me the day before yesterday and said your English placement test score was too low, and your vocabulary is not up to par..."

His gentle voice carried a heavy burden of pressure.

Sun Yao's smile gradually faded, her head drooped little by little, and she replied softly, "Um... I know, sis."

Lu Yuan felt suffocated for Sun Yao, and was even more puzzled by the loud background noise on the other end of the phone.

It sounded like someone was singing loudly, mixed with the crisp sound of dice clashing, a chaotic mess.

After finishing his meal, Lu Yuan washed up early, changed into a dark black cotton pajama, and strolled back to the living room.

Sun Yao and Chen Xiaomiao were squeezed together on the sofa, their heads close together, pointing at the phone screen.

"Sister-in-law, sister-in-law, this is Daji. She can throw out a heart with a 'biu' sound. If you get hit, you won't be able to walk."

"Daji, why does that fox spirit call you master?"

"Oh dear, that's how it's set up in the game... Look, this is Li Bai!" "Li Bai looks like this? Why is he holding a sword? Is he going to fight someone?"

"Don't fight people, farm the jungle!"

……

"What are you so happy to talk about?"

Lu Yuan's voice suddenly rang out.

Sun Yao shuddered in fright and instinctively turned off her phone, looking like a student caught red-handed by the teacher during evening self-study, her whole body radiating guilt.

"My sister-in-law thought it looked interesting, so I... I taught her to recognize the heroes..."

“Your sister-in-law gets bored at home all the time. If you teach her, it will help her relieve her boredom.”

Sun Yao shook her head and stood up.

"I'm not playing anymore, I... I still have a lot of words I haven't memorized, I'll go memorize them now."

After saying that, Sun Yao quickly slipped back to her room.

Lu Yuan watched her retreating figure, which looked like she was fleeing in panic, and sighed softly to himself.

Her older sister worked tirelessly to earn money for Sun Yao's medical treatment and education, which also placed a considerable psychological burden on her.

This made her afraid of being discovered that she played video games, which caused her to feel a strong sense of guilt.

The reason he was able to hang out with Chen Xiaomiao was because he felt that this sister-in-law was about the same age as him and they could have fun together.

After Sun Yao left, Chen Xiaomiao tugged at Lu Yuan's pajama sleeve and whispered, "Lu Yuan, is this Lü Dongbin really good at this? He seems pretty amazing."

Lu Yuan couldn't help but chuckle, reaching out to lightly poke her forehead: "You're supposed to be a proper Taoist disciple, can't you show some respect for the venerable Lu Zu? Do you even know how to 'play'?"

Chen Xiaomiao covered her forehead, stuck out her tongue, and said playfully, "Don't worry, I just asked Lu Zu in my heart. He is a magnanimous old man and will not stoop to the level of a junior like me."

"Did you also ask Lu Zu how we should sleep tonight?"

Chen Xiaomiao then remembered the big problem she would face tonight. Her expression froze, and she stammered as she spoke.

"Is it okay if I... I sleep on the floor?"

"No!"

Lu Yuan refused decisively.

"First, we don't have any extra thick mattresses for you to sleep on the floor. Second, it's almost November, and if you catch a cold sleeping on the floor, I'll be the one taking care of you."

Chen Xiaomiao was speechless after being confronted.

"Then...what should we do?!"

"Go take a shower first, and we'll discuss it after you're done."

Chen Xiaomiao nodded and ran towards the public bathroom in the living room. She had only taken two steps when Lu Yuan grabbed her arm again.

"I'm talking to you, honey!"

Lu Yuan deliberately raised his voice and glanced towards the master bedroom: "We have a bathroom in our own room."

Chen Xiaomiao froze on the spot, as if she had been frozen in place. Several seconds later, blushing, she lowered her head and slowly moved into Lu Yuan's bedroom.

Lu Yuan followed him inside and closed the door. Listening to the sound of running water coming from the shower, he absentmindedly scrolled through his phone.

Short videos scrolled by on the screen, but I didn't absorb any of their content.

My mind is filled with the slender figure that is faintly visible behind the frosted glass door.

A few minutes later, the sound of water stopped, the bathroom door opened a crack, and steaming heat rushed out.

Chen Xiaomiao slowly walked out of the bathroom. Her face was rosy from the hot bath, and her hair was wet and hanging over her shoulders, with water still dripping from the ends.

She was wearing a pair of pure cotton pajamas that she had recently bought online, matching Lu Yuan's pajamas—one black and one pink.

Lu Yuan turned off his phone, patted the empty pillow next to him, and grinned.

"Wife, come on up."
