Chapter 126: A little kid but a big kid
The two brothers, Lü Lei and Lü Xin, were incarcerated a few years ago, so it's impossible for Lü Xin to have a five-year-old daughter.

Lu Lei's wife and son, Lu Yuan, had met him in Huangya Village; his son had just started high school this year.

Therefore, the relationship between Bai Jing and Lü Lei is self-evident.

Lu Yuan never expected that when he asked Lü Lei to send someone he trusted, Lü Lei would send his mistress and daughter to move to Jiangcheng.

However, this was ultimately Lü Lei's private matter. Every family has its own problems, and Lu Yuan was too lazy to pry into it.

As long as Bai Jing can teach Chen Xiaomiao well, he won't care about anything else.

Back home, I heard a faint muttering coming from the study.

Lu Yuan changed his shoes and tiptoed to the door of the study.

Chen Xiaomiao was wearing headphones and reading aloud to the computer screen, doing so meticulously.

"My...my mother-in-law...Apple..."

"No...take...take...Banana..."

That authentic Dutch English, with its twists and turns, almost made Lu Yuan lose his composure.

Chen Xiaomiao was engrossed in reading and didn't notice that there was someone behind her.

"Thief...chair...uh...not thirsty...This is a book."

"Pfft-"

Lu Yuan finally couldn't hold back and let out a muffled laugh.

Startled, Chen Xiaomiao abruptly took off her headphones and turned around, only to be met with Lu Yuan's face, which was flushed red from trying not to laugh.

The girl was both embarrassed and annoyed: "What are you laughing at? What's so funny!"

She jumped up from the chair, rushed to Lu Yuan in a few steps, and punched him twice in the chest with her little pink fists.

The force was so light, it was no different from a cat's paw scratching an itch.

"Do not laugh!"

"I didn't laugh, I really didn't laugh."

Lu Yuan raised his hands and said in a serious tone, "I just had a slightly itchy throat and couldn't help coughing twice."

"I don't believe that!"

Chen Xiaomiao glared at him fiercely, stomped her foot angrily, turned around and sat back in her chair, putting her headphones back on.

But when he looked up, he saw Lu Yuan's shoulders shrugging, his face flushed red, and he looked like he was about to suffer internal injuries from holding it in.

The study mood I had just built up vanished instantly.

"You...you're bullying me!"

Chen Xiaomiao shoved the tablet away with a "thud": "Teacher Bai said that the worst thing for learning is to dampen enthusiasm! You keep making fun of me, how am I supposed to study in the future!"

Seeing that the girl was about to get angry, Lu Yuan quickly stopped laughing and coaxed her gently.

"My bad, my bad. I'll treat you to dinner tonight. What would you like to eat?"

Upon hearing this, Chen Xiaomiao turned her head and looked at Lu Yuan suspiciously.

"You can cook?"

"will not."

Lu Yuan answered confidently.

"But I'll order takeout."

Chen Xiaomiao rolled her eyes at this, got up and walked towards the kitchen, tying an apron on as she went: "I'll do it, it won't take much time."

Lu Yuan followed behind her, leaning against the kitchen door frame, watching her skillfully rinse rice and wash vegetables.

“From now on, you can focus on your studies and don’t need to do any housework.” Lu Yuan suggested, “I’ll hire a part-time housekeeper.”

"What a hit!"

Chen Xiaomiao's hands moved swiftly: "Hiring someone doesn't cost money, does it? I can do it myself, what's so tiring about it? Besides, studying is studying, and living is living, you can't mix the two."

Lu Yuan continued, "Did you understand everything Teacher Bai taught today?"

"almost."

Chen Xiaomiao kept working: "It's that foreign language, it's like a book written in heaven, it's hard to pronounce... Anyway, Teacher Bai said that my foundation is weak, so I have to take it slowly and not rush it."

Bai Jing was an excellent teacher. She did not forcefully instill dry theoretical knowledge, but instead used a wide range of examples and explanations to make complex concepts easy to understand in a way that Chen Xiaomiao could comprehend.

Chen Xiaomiao was also a good student, like a dried-up sponge, desperately absorbing the nutrients of knowledge.

I get up before dawn every day to memorize vocabulary and formulas. After class during the day, I still have to review them before going to bed at night.

Lu Yuan felt a little sorry for him seeing that kind of energy.

That afternoon, Bai Jing finished teaching Chen Xiaomiao and was packing her things to leave.

"Sister Jing, have some water before you go."

Chen Xiaomiao handed over a cup of freshly brewed flower tea.

"Thank you."

Bai Jing took the teacup, looking somewhat tired.

Chen Xiaomiao, being observant, had already noticed that Bai Jing hadn't been in good spirits lately, so she tentatively asked, "Sister Jing, am I too stupid and making things difficult for you? You haven't smiled much these past few days."

Bai Jing was taken aback upon hearing this, then forced a smile: "It's nothing, maybe I haven't been resting well lately."

She said she was fine, but her usually gentle eyes held an unyielding sorrow.

Chen Xiaomiao didn't press further, and simply said, "Then you must take a good rest. It's okay if you don't come to class; your health is the most important thing."

Bai Jing suppressed her irritation and looked at Chen Xiaomiao's clean and clear face without any makeup. Her heart stirred slightly, and she suddenly asked, "Xiaomiao, how long have you been with Mr. Lu?"

"Hmm...almost a year."

Did he ever say when he would marry you?

"Marry me?"

Chen Xiaomiao shook her head and answered honestly, "I didn't say that. He said we're just living together as a couple, and I think that's fine."

She knew her own fate.

She was already grateful to God for being able to stay peacefully by Lu Yuan's side and not cause trouble for him; how could she dare to ask for any official title?

But Bai Jing heard these words and they took on a completely different meaning.

Living together?
Bai Jing's hand holding the teacup tightened slightly, and her gaze towards Chen Xiaomiao instantly held a complex emotion that was hard to describe.

Sympathy, pity, and the bittersweet feeling of empathy.

Suddenly, Bai Jing's phone rang abruptly.

"Hello, Teacher Wang..." After hearing what was said on the other end of the phone, Bai Jing's face visibly darkened.

"Okay, okay, I understand. I'm sorry to trouble you. I'll be right there."

As soon as Bai Jing hung up the phone, Chen Xiaomiao immediately stepped forward to inquire with concern.

"Sister Jing, what happened?"

"My daughter got into trouble at kindergarten again."

Bai Jing rubbed her aching temples, looking exhausted: "I have to go there right away."

"I'll take it to you!"

"sorry to bother you."

The car smoothly drove out of the underground parking garage. Chen Xiaomiao shifted gears, turned on the lights, and changed lanes with a series of smooth movements, looking even more skillful than many experienced drivers who had been driving for years.

"Xiao Miao, you drive really well."

Sitting in the passenger seat, Bai Jing's anxiety subsided slightly, and she sincerely praised, "I really envy you guys who can drive. I failed the test several times and just gave up."

"hey-hey."

Chen Xiaomiao chuckled sheepishly, "Everyone has their strengths. Sister Jing is so knowledgeable and quick-witted, while I only know this little bit of clumsy skill."

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, the car arrived at an impressively decorated international kindergarten.

Chen Xiaomiao parked the car, and Bai Jing immediately got out.

"Teacher Wang, I'm so sorry."

"Jiaxin's mom, you've finally arrived."

With a helpless expression, Teacher Wang handed Lü Jiaxin to Bai Jing.

"That's right, Jiaxin's mother."

Teacher Wang sighed and tried to be tactful, saying, "Our kindergarten has discussed it and feels that little Lü Jiaxin... may really not be used to our environment here."

"How about... we find her another kindergarten, and we'll refund the full amount."

It's a blunt way to discourage people from pursuing their dreams.

Bai Jing's lips moved, but ultimately turned into a sigh.

"I understand. I'm sorry for the trouble I've caused you teachers these past few days."

She didn't argue or get angry; she calmly accepted the result, then took her daughter's hand and turned to walk towards the car.

Back in the car, Bai Jing stared at her daughter, her tone serious: "Lü Jiaxin, tell your mother the truth, what really happened?"

Lü Jiaxin's big, dark eyes darted around, looking very clever.

She wasn't afraid of her mother at all; instead, she puffed out her chest confidently and said, "They bullied me first!"

Bai Jing's temples throbbed: "How did they bully you?"

"They're all snobs!"

Lu Jiaxin curled her lips, looking disdainful: "They laughed at me for not having a luxury car driver to pick me up from school, saying that my family is just a poor wretch pretending to be rich."

"So you squeezed mustard into their milk?"

"Yeah, it's because they have such foul mouths!"

The little girl spoke with great conviction, showing no sign of feeling that she had done anything wrong.

Bai Jing felt a wave of dizziness.

Lu Lei naturally arranged for his daughter to attend a high-end kindergarten.

Who would have thought that such unhealthy practices would exist even in kindergartens nowadays?

What do kids know about snobbery? They're taught by the adults in their families.

Suddenly, Lü Jiaxin turned her gaze to Chen Xiaomiao in the driver's seat. Seeing that the other was wearing ordinary sportswear and a pair of worn-out canvas shoes, she asked in a childish voice.

"Mom, is this the driver Dad hired for us? Will I have a private car to pick me up from school from now on?"

Bai Jing's face turned pale, and she scolded, "Jiaxin! Stop talking nonsense and apologize to your sister right now!"

Lu Jiaxin trembled at her mother's stern tone.

Although she was young, she was very clever and immediately realized that the female driver in front of her was definitely someone her mother couldn't afford to offend.

The little girl's eyes darted around, and she clung to the seat in front of her, leaning close to Chen Xiaomiao's ear, her voice sweet and childlike.

"Hello, sister! My name is Lü Jiaxin. What's your name? You're so beautiful, like a fairy from an animated film!"

"Hello, my name is Chen Xiaomiao!"

When Lü Jiaxin heard Chen Xiaomiao's accent, her eyes lit up.

"Sister, the way you talk is just like my uncle's!"

She imitated Chen Xiaomiao's accent with great care, and said in a high-pitched voice, "My uncle taught me, so let's see if I can imitate it well?"

Chen Xiaomiao burst out laughing.

Bai Jing, standing to the side, said helplessly, "Xiao Miao, I'm sorry to have made you laugh. This child is spoiled."

"it's okay no problem."

Chen Xiaomiao didn't feel offended at all. On the contrary, she thought the little girl was clever and interesting, like a little adult, and quite likable.

After dropping Bai Jing and her daughter off, Chen Xiaomiao drove home, where Lu Yuan had just returned from school.

"Where did you go?"

"We're taking Teacher Bai and her daughter there."

After changing her shoes, Chen Xiaomiao walked over to Lu Yuan and recounted her experience at kindergarten that day.

“Lü Jiaxin is Uncle Lü Lei’s daughter, so she’s practically family to us.”

Lu Yuan moved to the side and patted the seat next to him, gesturing for Chen Xiaomiao to sit down: "If Bai Jing is too busy in the future, you might as well have her bring the child to our house and let that idiot keep her company while she makes a fuss."

"What!?"

Chen Xiaomiao was startled by what she heard and her mind went blank for a moment.

She had seen Lu Lei's wife and children with her own eyes, and Bai Jing...

"I know."

After a short while, Chen Xiaomiao realized what was happening and nodded.

She used to wonder how to be a mistress.

Unexpectedly, she actually saw a living, breathing one today.
