Chapter 29 Give Him Everything

Lin Jiang drove the carriage to the edge of town and waited for Li Ze there.

Beside the dirt road was the place where the bodies had been burned before. The fire hadn't ended yet, and the burly young men in charge of handling the matter didn't know what had happened in the town. They were curiously looking in that direction, but they didn't dare leave the fire, fearing that a gust of wind might blow over and send the flames into the mountains, burning the mountain god's beard clean.

There were also some family members, kneeling or squatting, staring blankly at the fire in front of them. The crackling flames reflected in their eyes, but they didn't feel the heat.

All he could think about was seeing his family off on their final journey.

No one spoke, not even the young men who set the fire. Now was not the time to speak; if they did, tears would fall.

Compared to the quietness here, Sanxing Town is now very lively, with many people talking excitedly and happily on the streets.

They were incredibly noisy, and Lin Jiang's ears were too sensitive; he could easily hear the sounds coming from inside the town.

Many people say that Li Ze is amazing, bold and meticulous, and that he really poisoned the tiger with arsenic. Others say that Li Ze did not do it at all, but that it was done by a master whose appearance is unknown. The master did not want to show his face, so he simply gave the credit to Li Ze.

There are different opinions.

Unfortunately, the illness couldn't be cured immediately. The whole town was still filled with coughing. Several people who were already weak nearly fell after walking around the streets a couple of times and had to be helped back to their rooms.

I don't know when this medicine will take effect.

"Grandson..."

Lin Shengfeng seemed to have been woken up. He used his third hand to lift the curtain and leaned half his face out of the car window to look out:

"It's so lively outside, is it Chinese New Year? I can hear firecrackers."

"Although it's not the New Year yet, it's already like celebrating the New Year."

"Happy Chinese New Year!" Lin Shengfeng said with a smile. "It's time to give my grandson a red envelope."

After patting himself down for a while, Lin Shengfeng's expression turned dejected again.
"I lost my red envelope too, I lost everything."

Lin Jiang thought for a moment, then took out a piece of red paper from the back of the car, folded it, and made it into the shape of an envelope.

He walked over to Lin Shengfeng and handed it to him:
"Grandpa, it's not lost, it's right here."

Lin Shengfeng's face immediately lit up with a smile. He took the red envelope and then solemnly returned it to Lin Jiang:
"Grandson, take your red envelope."

"Grandson accepts it."

Lin Jiang solemnly accepted the red envelope into his arms.

Lin Shengfeng was really happy, but he had been very sleepy lately. He wanted to talk to his grandson a little longer, but the yawning bug immediately crept up on him.

"Grandson, I'm sleepy again."

"Then you should rest first."

"Ah."

The curtain was drawn, and soon Lin Shengfeng's snoring could be heard again.

Little Ginseng finally crawled out of Lin Jiang's sleeve again. Except for the time when she was guarding the carriage, she had basically been hidden in Lin Jiang's sleeve the whole way.

She looked at the red envelope in Lin Jiang's hand with suspicion:

"what is this?"

"This is a red envelope," Lin Jiang explained. "It contains lucky money. During the Lunar New Year, elders give some to younger generations, hoping that they will have peace and safety throughout the year."

"Can I have it too?" Little Ginseng's eyes lit up.

“It’s not the New Year, and you should be my elder.” Lin Jiang took out a ten-tael silver note from the back carriage, folded it, and put it in the red envelope: “But I don’t think it matters.”

Little Ginseng received the red envelope, and his face was beaming with smiles.

`
She is also very happy.

Xiao Shanshen returned to her sleeve. To be honest, she still didn't quite understand what the silver notes were for, but they were a gift from Lin Jiang, just like those comic books. They were very precious, and she had to keep them safe.

Lin Jiang had no idea what Xiao Shanshen was doing inside his sleeve.

He was about to take out the bead to examine it again when he suddenly heard the sound of footsteps not far away.

Turning my head, I saw Li Ze running over carrying a pile of tiger bones.

The bones were clearly freshly shaved off, and some bloodstains were on Li Ze's body and face.

The tiger bone was wrapped in a tiger skin, which looked very nice.

Li Ze, however, smiled and didn't seem to care at all.

"Young Master Zhu! Eldest Young Master Zhu! The tiger bone you requested!"

It took Lin Jiang a while to process what he had come up with before he remembered the fake name he had chosen.

"Why is there still skin?"

"Nobody in our town likes leather, so this should be given to you."

Actually, Lin Jiang doesn't really like leather. He always feels that leather is a bit too flashy when it's actually made into a coat.

Since they brought it, he couldn't just throw it away, so he simply accepted it. After wrapping up the tiger bones and skin, Lin Jiang tossed them into the trunk of the car.

After arriving in Yuxiang, we still need to find a pot of good wine to soak the tiger bones.

The alcohol these days isn't good enough; it lacks power.

"Where is the young master going next?"

"Go where you're supposed to go."

Li Ze understood. The young master must be a reclusive master, perhaps even a deity, who just happened to be passing by and happened to save their town.

You cannot ask where they came from, where they are going, or even their name.

The words stuck in his throat; he really didn't know what to say, so he could only clasp his hands together and bow deeply in Lin Jiang's direction.

Lin Jiang returned the greeting with a fist salute, then flicked the reins, and the two old horses, exhaling white breath, strode forward.

The early spring sun shines on the road ahead, leaving only the sound of horses' hooves fading into the distance.

……

After drinking the medicine, the old beggar felt much warmer.

Li Ze prepared a nice quilt for the old beggar, gave him some roast chicken and some wine, and gave them to him.

The old beggar gladly accepted.

After wandering around for three more days in Sanxing Town, they finally saw a middle-aged man riding quickly towards them from the end of the dirt road.

Behind him followed several young men dressed only in plain clothes, but they also had stern faces and were very meticulous.

The middle-aged man stopped at the entrance of Sanxing and immediately dismounted.

He took a fine and beautiful coat from his horse, walked to the old beggar's side, and draped it over the old beggar's shoulders.

He then took out a gourd, poured out two golden pills, and handed them to the old beggar.

"My lord, the general has blocked the road. I had to deal with them for a while, so I'm late."

"Damn it, if I were waiting for you guys to come and rescue me, I'd probably be buried here already." The old beggar cursed, but still took the pill and swallowed it whole.

His complexion immediately regained its rosy hue.

The old beggar stood up and dusted himself off.
"You came too late, so I'll punish you by making you stay in this village for a year. If you see anyone causing trouble in the village during that time, you're to skin that person alive."

"Yes." The middle-aged man accepted the punishment willingly without any hesitation.

“There’s a medicine seller in town named Li Ze. Go work for him, and I guarantee he’ll become rich and powerful within a year, making Sanxing Town a Li family business.”

"clear."

“He seems to have a son. Go and teach his son some skills.”

"Ok."

After giving these instructions, the old man went to the large horse that the middle-aged man had been riding, pulled the reins, and mounted the horse.

"What are your plans for the future?" the middle-aged man asked.

"I'm going to Yuxiang. There's a guy there who's obsessed with money. I don't like him. I'm going to stuff his waist with copper coins," the old beggar said.

"And I feel there's something wrong over there. I shouldn't be sick, even if I'm injured, seriously injured, I shouldn't be sick, but I still got sick, almost to the point of death. Something's not right about this illness."

"What's even stranger is that someone can get the medicine to treat this disease, and the medicinal materials used are very cheap. I heard that they live in Baishan."

"I'll contact someone to go to Baishan right away."

The old beggar nodded, then thought for a moment and said:
"I also met a young man, and I really, really like him."

“Tell me your name, and I can grant him whatever he desires, whether he wants wealth and honor, to be the head of a city or county, or to have four or five beauties as his concubines.”

“Not enough, he needs everything.” The old beggar said, “But he didn’t tell me his name. He has something to hide. He’s capable, but he doesn’t want to reveal his identity. You can’t let him reveal his identity. But I know what he looks like. He’s a handsome man. I’ll go back and draw a picture of him. Only someone who is good at finding people can see it. Once I find him, I’ll secretly give him the things.”

"it is good."

"Then I'm leaving. You can leave next spring."

The old beggar left with his three followers.

The middle-aged man took out a handful of powder from his pocket, smeared it on his face, and in the next moment, he became an even more unremarkable middle-aged man.

He entered the town, inquired around, and found Li Ze's residence.

He knocked on the door, and Li Ze opened it for him.

A middle-aged man's self-introduction:

"My name is Huang Niu. I'm a farmer from nearby. My family member died of illness, and I'm all alone. I'm thinking of finding a long-term job at your house..."
