Chapter 89 Governor, you have been sentenced to death.
Chapter 89 Governor, you have been sentenced to death.
As the Great Eagle Policeman's Thunder Hammer fell, a crisp system notification sounded in the ears of all players, signifying that the powerful son of the Emperor, Alvis, had been completely killed.
The tense atmosphere that had hung over the ruins dissipated, and the players breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he had said, Alvis did not suffer a self-destructive psychic attack or any other form of mutual destruction after his death.
However, some players then raised a new question: "We've already killed the boss, so why haven't we received the quest rewards yet?"
A quick-thinking player immediately replied in the regional chat: "You idiot! The governor's mansion has collapsed, and there are still some resilient Astartes trapped underneath! The mission isn't over until all the enemies are dead."
"Oh my god, how long do we have to wait?"
"We'll have to wait at least another week or two, right? Those Astartes can last a long time even without food or water."
"It's hard to say. If you're unlucky, you might have to wait a month or two."
"Huh?! That's been way too long!"
Just as the players were discussing this, Nguyen Van Bo and Father Redito approached. Nguyen Van Bo cleared his throat and said loudly, "Don't worry, everyone! We'll have the servants use engineering equipment to dig this place up and finish them off one by one! Anyway, the Space Marines trapped underneath are definitely not capable of fighting anymore!"
Upon hearing this, the players suddenly realized what was going on.
"Right! I almost forgot, this game does allow for environmental destruction, you can just dig it up!"
"Boss Ruan is awesome! His thinking is so clear!"
Meanwhile, Redito, standing beside Alvis's body, had also completed his initial scan and examination. His tone held a hint of disbelief: "Incredible..."
Ruan Wenbo walked over and asked, "How is it? Is there any risk that this corpse will come to life again?"
“Not only is there none, but the degree of mutation in his flesh is almost non-existent,” Redito mused. “It’s hard to imagine that this is really a Space Marine who has been trapped in chaos for ten thousand years.”
"So," Ruan Wenbo's eyes lit up, and he subconsciously asked, "his gene seed can still be used?"
Upon hearing this, the previously noisy players nearby instantly fell silent. Hundreds upon hundreds of gazes abruptly turned towards the center of the ruins, or more precisely, towards Redito.
Redito... reacted very strongly to this.
"What do you want to do!" He whirled around, his voice sharper than ever before, and surveyed the players with their burning gazes. "What do you want to do!"
Ruan Wenbo immediately realized he had misspoke. He coughed twice, trying to smooth things over: "I was just curious and asked a question casually. Father Redito, you're overthinking it."
“Whether I’m overthinking it or not… you know the answer in your heart.” Redito said coldly, activating the anti-gravity device to slowly lift Alvis’s body. “It’s your business if you’re not afraid of death, but I don’t want to die… especially not from something that can’t be concealed and is completely unprofitable.”
After saying that, Redito took Ilvis's body and left without looking back.
Ruan Wenbo stood there, stroking his chin, and muttered to himself thoughtfully, "In other words... as long as there is a way to cover it up and it is very profitable, that's fine."
……
Three days later, amidst the ruins.
Moth, Name, and Great Horned Beast reunited on the site of what was once the governor's mansion, now a massive ruin. Moth was pacing back and forth across the ruins, hands behind his back, seemingly using the tactile sensation under his feet to ascertain something.
Finally, he stopped and shouted to the mechanics operating the large construction machinery not far away: "Hey! Don't dig there yet, come and dig here!"
"Sir, my identification number is Zinc J24B5, I'm not called 'Hey'," the servant said in its monotone electronic voice. "The excavation work has a pre-set safety plan. Disrupting it arbitrarily could lead to the discovery of fallen space marines without the supervision of those willing to die, resulting in uncontrollable risks..."
"With us here, what are you afraid of?" the moth interrupted impatiently. "Once there are no more people watching over this place, you can stop digging. It's that simple!"
"Sir, according to regulations, I need to report to my superiors."
"Damn it, the machine servant is so inflexible," Moth grumbled. "Fine, 9527, hurry up."
"Sir, my name isn't 9527..."
The moth ignored it completely and turned to look at the unicorn and its name.
The giant unicorn asked curiously, "Why did you call us here?"
"It's for that basement I mentioned before," the name guessed.
"Oh!" the giant unicorn exclaimed in realization, "The basement didn't collapse?"
"Most likely not," Moth said excitedly. "According to common sense in games, the deeper and harder to reach a place is to find, the more likely it is to have good stuff!"
Before long, the engineering machinery controlled by the servants dug a dark hole at the location specified by the moth.
"My lord..." The servant's report was interrupted by Moth: "Alright, let's go down now."
After saying that, the three of them couldn't wait to go down the dug slope and enter the basement.
The three men switched on their tactical flashlights and cautiously crept inside. In the deep tunnel, they heard a slight noise. Moth immediately raised her gun and whispered, "Don't move!"
Because the system's friend or foe identification didn't register, he didn't fire immediately. "No! Don't shoot! I'm not the enemy!" a panicked voice came from the darkness.
The three focused their flashlight beams and were able to see the other person's appearance clearly. He looked like a nobleman; although he looked haggard, his clothes were still well-maintained, indicating that he had lived a life of luxury.
The moth already had some guesses about the other party's identity, but still asked, "Who are you?"
“I…I am Kieran Pedithia, the governor of this planet.” Seeing the eagle insignia on their armor, the other man calmed down slightly. “You are soldiers of the Empire, aren’t you? The enemy has been wiped out?”
"Planet Governor?" the giant unicorn asked in surprise. "You're still alive?"
“Yes.” Governor Kieran seemed to have regained his usual haughty demeanor. “What’s the situation outside? Tell them immediately…”
“Governor,” the name interrupted Kieran, his tone calm and even, “where is your family? Are you all alone here?”
The tone of the name seemed to frighten Kieran, who instinctively shrank back: "It's...it's still in the back room. I came out to check after hearing the commotion outside."
"Then please lead the way," the name said. "Only after we've confirmed your family's situation can we decide what to do next, right?"
"The entire Planet Governor's family is still alive?"
Inside the command post, upon hearing the news of the discovery of the basement, Nguyen Van Bo quickly summoned officers from each company and representatives of the military committee to ensure a swift response should any incident occur.
As it turned out, something really did happen, but the direction of the accident was not quite what he had imagined.
“Yes.” On the other end of the communicator, Moth looked at the nine people in front of her and answered.
Among them were Planet Governor Kieran himself, his wife and personal physician, four daughters, and two sons. Governor Kieran must have said something to them, because the family seemed quite relaxed, even though they were facing three soldiers of unknown origin. The youngest son even yawned, seemingly oblivious to their presence.
"Nine people in total... and they all seem to be in good spirits," Moth added. "It seems they've been doing well in the basement lately."
“Hmm…” After listening to the report, Nguyen Van Bo looked at the officers and representatives sitting in front of him, “Let’s vote on how to deal with them.”
“What else could it be? They're the ones who lured that Slaanesh gang here.” Assassin was the first to shrug. “Clear treachery. I suggest they all be shot.”
“Pedidia’s planetary governance system has completely collapsed and can only be rebuilt. Keeping them around will only cause us trouble and affect our subsequent administration,” JK said calmly, adjusting his glasses. “I suggest they all be shot.”
"These bastards brought in the Slaanesh gang, causing our company to lose a Leman Russ," the representative of the Second Company said through gritted teeth. "I suggest they all be shot."
"Any other suggestions?" Ruan Wenbo asked again, just to be on the safe side, after seeing that no one was responding.
No one answered for a long time.
"Okay, then it's settled."
Nguyen Van Bo picked up the communicator and said to the other end, "After discussion by the Military Committee, they have all been sentenced to death. The charge... let's call it treason."
In the basement, Moth, having received the message, looked up at Kieran Peditia and asked in a confirming tone, "Mr. Kieran, are you sure all your family members are here?"
Kieran was puzzled, but still said confidently, "Of course, I'm sure."
"That's good." Moth nodded and began to give orders, "Doctor, could you please move a little to the right?"
“Mr. Kieran, please move forward a little more.”
“Rosalia, Ms. Frigga, please gravitate towards your mother.”
"Hmm..." After everyone had stood in the positions as Moth had instructed, he pondered for a moment, "Now everyone is in my sight."
Kieran finally felt a sense of unease, and asked in a trembling voice, "Excuse me... what are you going to do?"
Moth slowly drew the automatic pistol from her waist, the red dot on the muzzle standing out conspicuously in the dim basement.
"Mr. Kieran, after discussion and decision by the military committee of the Peditia Corps of the Dead, you are sentenced to death by firing squad for treason."
"What did you say?! Say it again?! No, no! There must be some mistake, I am the planetary governor..."
After a brief burst of gunfire, the basement fell into a deathly silence. Moth, expressionless, stepped into the pool of blood and fired a final shot at her youngest son, who was still groaning on the floor.
He crouched down and tore open the corpse's ornate outer garment, from which a pile of glittering jewels rolled out from the lining.
Moth spat dismissively: "No wonder you were still breathing after being shot several times. You didn't forget to take these things when you escaped into the basement."
He stood up and waved to the horned beast and his name behind him.
"Alright, alright, there's no equipment at all. Let's call the servitors in to clean up the mess, this is really bad luck..."
