Chapter 31 How can an excellent game be without a lottery?

The scene after the molten metal bomb exploded resembled a painting of hell.

In the center of Sector C-3, the metal walkways and surrounding pipes were completely melted, turning into a still-steaming, orange-red molten pool. A dozen or so players at the epicenter of the explosion were constantly teetering between death and respawn. The moment they respawned, they were killed again by the terrifying heat and the flowing molten metal beneath their feet, only to be respawned in the same spot a few seconds later…

They died and were resurrected more than ten times in this way, until the temperature of the molten pool dropped slightly. Only then, covered in black smoke, did they slowly crawl out of the devastating center. This included the "Ruthless Assassin," who once again successfully took down the BOSS with his self-destruction.

Fortunately, the pain in this game is only as intense as being hit on the finger with a hammer; otherwise, the repeated melting torture alone would have driven players completely insane.

A player who had just climbed out of the center gave a thumbs up to the equally disheveled Assassin: "Dude, you're really awesome. You took down the second boss with your self-destruction."

Another player immediately chimed in, "I feel that using self-destruction to take down a boss will become a very popular playstyle in the future, and it will even be named after you, like the 'Assassin Style'!"

Another player lay on the ground, panting and complaining, "Assassin style? Does it mean strapping bombs all over your body, then silently sneaking up behind the enemy, shouting 'For the Emperor' and dying together with the enemy? That's definitely assassin style."

After the heatwave subsided somewhat, the players on the periphery cautiously approached. The player with the ID [JK] wiped away sweat and asked, still shaken, "How many times did this boss kill each of us?"

“I’ve died to it five times,” a player who had just crawled out and was lying dead on the ground grimaced. “Can someone finish me off? I need to reset my status. I feel like my legs have been burned by the molten metal and have a debuff.”

"When I fight the Genestealer Cult again, I will definitely avenge this!" one player said angrily. "I'll strap myself with explosives and blow them up!"

"I'll save the molten metal bombs for you, and blow those purebred scoundrels to smithereens."

"good idea."

"Haha."

"That would be awesome."

"Count me in."

Amidst these few words of agreement that sounded like a conversation between humans and machines, Assassin interrupted them: "The self-destruct strategy is fun, but it's actually a skill-based job. Bombing bosses is difficult, and bombing minions won't make you profitable. After all, the more powerful the explosive, the more merit points you need."

The surrounding players nodded in agreement. Many players had tried to emulate Assassin's self-destruction technique against this pure-blooded thief, but all their efforts were in vain because they couldn't time the attack perfectly, wasting precious merit points. Just Assassin's two molten bombs alone were worth 500 merit points.

"Why don't you write a post later, bro?" one player suggested. "Teach us how to play the self-destruct build and share some tips."

Asasin thought for a moment and decided that it wasn't a technology that needed to be kept secret, so he readily agreed: "Sure, no problem."

Just as the players were chatting and sharing their joy at successfully defeating the BOSS again, a crisp system notification sounded in everyone's ears.

[Defeat the hidden enemy: Phantom Claw Liam Bright]

[Reward: One chance to win a random prize (Merit points will be tallied upon completion of this main quest)]

The players were stunned. A lottery?
They quickly opened the system interface and found a brand new lottery page on the UI. The interface displayed all the different items that could be won, a dazzling array, exactly one hundred in total.

The lottery event was entirely Bit's spur-of-the-moment idea. He was no longer content with simply creating weapons and equipment for players based on their needs. In the warp, in order to explore the boundaries of his own powers, he created a whole host of imaginative and rather bizarre gadgets. These things were full of Bit's unique twisted sense of humor and creativity, but most of them had little practical combat value.

Bit enjoys the process of "creating" these things; once they're finished, they lose their meaning. So he thought, why not just package them up and give them to players as rewards for defeating special enemies? The players had just taken down a powerful pureblood thief, so giving them this special reward seemed quite reasonable.

This completely excited the players in the material universe.

"Comrades, watch me! I'll try it out first!" one player shouted immediately.

Without hesitation, he clicked the lottery button. Icons on the screen flashed by rapidly, dazzling lights and shadows, before slowly coming to a stop. Finally, a thick book landed in the center.

The players who had gathered around out of curiosity immediately started asking questions all at once:

"A book? What book?"

"Could it be a powerful spellbook written by Magnus the Red, containing a large number of warp psionic spells?"

"It might be the Astartes!"

"It could also be the Record of the Emperor's Sacred Words."

"Ugh, these two things should be taken away quickly, they're bad luck!"

The player who participated in the lottery immediately retrieved the book from the lottery UI. He felt a heavy weight in his hand, and when he saw the item's details, he was completely stunned.

[Title: Complete Dungeons & Dragons Core Rulebook Set 3.5e]

[Type: Tool]

[Quality: Excellent]

[Function: A rulebook is a rulebook. What, you expect to use it to throw things at people?]

[Special effects: It will make anyone who sees it want to start a tense and exciting D&D raid.]

[Note: "If anyone wants to use it, I've put it in the entertainment room. I'll be starting another raid next Tuesday. Bring your own character card if you want to play." — Dr. DeVries]

"...What the heck?" The player holding the rulebook tried to open it in disbelief and found that it actually worked! The pages were of excellent quality, and every line of text was crystal clear, containing the contents of the three core rulebooks: "City Lord's Guide," "Player's Handbook," and "Monster Encyclopedia."

The surrounding players peeked out and couldn't help but laugh.

"You know what, after seeing these special effects, I suddenly really want to join a group."

"It's okay, brother, think positively," one player patted the winner on the shoulder and comforted him, "At least our company will have a new way to entertain ourselves in our spare time from now on."
