I summoned the Fourth Scourge in Warhammer
Chapter 27 Nervous
Chapter 27 Nervous
Assassin led his reconnaissance squad back to the main force's ambush point without a sound. The player who could draw immediately unfolded a sketch drawn with charcoal on the back of a piece of cardboard and told Nguyen Van Bo everything they had learned.
When all the intelligence from the reconnaissance teams were put together, an absurd yet unanimous conclusion was presented to the commander: the massive chemical refinery was incredibly poorly defended, practically undefended.
Ruan Wenbo frowned deeply. He also felt that there must be something fishy about this; behind such abnormal phenomena often lurked the most deadly traps.
But now is not the time for doubt and hesitation.
In the distance, the main battlegrounds were already underway. The muffled sounds of gunfire and artillery, like deep thunder, came in waves. Each tremor seemed to urge them on, reminding them that time was running out.
He took a deep breath, his voice not loud but unusually firm: "No matter what they're up to, the die is cast, and we have no choice but to act. Everyone prepare, move out immediately!"
The situation and orders quickly reached every player's ears. The previously noisy player group instantly fell silent, an invisible pressure enveloping everyone. After all, this strange relaxation did indeed resemble a "siege tactic" to most people.
But retreat was definitely out of the question. Their war plan was to attack this chemical refinery; they couldn't just turn back because of the absurd reason that "the enemy didn't have sentries," could they? The suicide squad had to proceed according to their original plan without any changes—otherwise, if the cultists threw a pile of gold on the ground, would they stop to pick it up first? The mission objective was always the top priority.
In this somber atmosphere, the players began to approach the chemical refinery.
This subdued atmosphere wasn't without its advantages. At least, since starting to play the game, Ruan Wenbo had never seen these fearless players so quiet. Hundreds of them moved like ghosts blending into the night, their steps light and coordinated, easily reaching the vicinity of the chemical refinery undetected.
The group stopped outside the rusty gate, and everyone saw the cultist sentry leaning against the door, nodding his head, clearly dozing off, just as the first reconnaissance squad had described.
Nguyen Van Bo did not speak; he simply turned his head, looked at Assassin beside him, and gave him a look.
The latter immediately understood.
Assassin simply drew a gleaming fighting dagger from his leg. He kept his body low to the ground, his footsteps making no sound, and like a black panther hunting its prey, he silently slipped out of the shadows.
The moment the cultist slumped forward in a daze, Assassin closed in from behind. One hand swiftly covered the man's mouth, while the dagger in the other hand plunged into his neck at a tricky and precise angle, twisting it forcefully.
Without even a groan, the cultist's body twitched once before going completely limp. Assassin supported him and gently dragged him into the deeper shadows, the whole process clean and efficient, without alerting anyone.
After dealing with the sentries at the gate, Assassin gave a "safe" signal to his back.
Nguyen Van Bo then gave the order, and the team began to advance in an extremely cautious manner.
The process is simple and effective: one or two agile players, such as the Assassins, lead the way to scout and assassinate; the main force follows behind at a distance of several tens of meters, ready to react immediately if an alarm is raised ahead.
However, the expected alarm never sounded.
To their astonishment, they discovered that not only the entrance, but the factory's interior security was shockingly lax. In the vast factory buildings, crisscrossing pipes, and dark corridors, only at key intersections or passageways were there one or two cult members acting as sentries. And these sentries were practically nonexistent; some leaned against the walls, lost in thought, while others simply sat down, muttering to themselves, completely oblivious to their surroundings.
The suicide squad thus infiltrated deep into the chemical refinery as if it were an empty field. In the silence of the group, one player finally couldn't hold back any longer. He muttered in a voice barely audible to himself, "So, after all this time, these cultists are just plain stupid?"
Although the other players did not reply and maintained radio silence and discipline, the exchange of glances among them revealed that everyone wholeheartedly agreed with the statement.
Soon, the suicide squad arrived at the central area of the chemical refinery. It appeared to be a huge reaction workshop, and they were separated from the interior by only a heavy double iron door.
A dim red light shone through the crack in the door, and waves of fervent, unified prayers came from inside, crashing against everyone's eardrums like a tidal wave.
Assassin pressed himself against the door, listened intently for a moment, and said to Nguyen Van Bo with some doubt, "They all seem to be gathered in here... What are they doing? It looks like some kind of ritual."
“I don’t know what they’re doing,” Nguyen Van Bo said coldly as he peered through the crack in the door at the shadowy crowd inside. “But I know this is the perfect opportunity to interrupt them.”
He immediately summoned the commander of the 7th Company and ordered the three players assigned to grenade launchers to come forward.
"Prepare," Ruan Wenbo ordered in a low voice.
Three grenade launchers immediately stepped forward, knelt on one knee, and steadily placed the grenade launchers on their shoulders, aiming the dark muzzles at the iron gate.
With a nod from Nguyen Van Bo, the three men, who were ready, suddenly stood up and kicked the iron gate with their shoulders and boots!
"boom!"
The iron gate was smashed open with tremendous force. One of the players yelled at the top of his lungs, "Heretics, your Astral Army grandpas are here!"
Before the words were even finished, three grenades, accompanied by a sharp whistling sound, traced three perfect parabolic arcs and landed precisely in the densest part of the crowd in the center of the workshop.
boom! boom! boom!
The violent explosions occurred almost simultaneously. The cultists, who were immersed in the frenzied ritual and huddled together, were instantly thrown into devastating chaos by this sudden attack.
"rush!"
The remaining players poured into the workshop like a floodgate opening. When they saw the sight before them—the cultists crammed together like sardines in a can—their eyes lit up. Without hesitation, they pulled out grenades from their waists, pulled the pins, and threw them with all their might.
This is a golden opportunity to gain merit!
The cultists, who never expected humans to dare to counterattack, were completely stunned by the continuous explosions. From their perspective, many didn't even hear the deafening roar at the door, and didn't realize that the enemy had arrived—they only knew that explosions were constantly happening around them, flames and shockwaves were engulfing everything, and their companions' bodies were being torn to pieces, with blood and flesh flying everywhere.
The instinct for survival overwhelmed their fanatical faith. Realizing they were in an extremely dangerous area, the cultists immediately panicked and tried to get to safety: some frantically tried to escape, rushing headlong towards the various exits of the workshop; while others, more "devout" or foolish, instinctively huddled around the wizard standing on the platform who seemed to be conducting a ritual, as if that were the only safe haven.
