Chapter 100 Advanced Trench Warfare

Chapter 100 Advanced Trench Warfare (Confirmed)
A Chimera armored personnel carrier, covered in a thick layer of sand, slowly came to a stop in the shade of a huge sand dune, accompanied by the low roar of its engine. The hydraulic levers hissed dully as the rear hatch slammed heavily onto the soft sand, and several agile figures leaped out.

Leading the group was JK, whose face revealed little emotion. The other battalion commanders all wore the full-face masks that came with their armor, the thick breathing filters separating them from the swirling yellow sand; only JK did not.

He had his reasons for doing so. He squinted slightly, letting the sand-laden wind brush against his cheeks, feeling the wind direction and speed, and then quickly wrote on a portable tactical data board: "Good, this is the leeward side, my judgment was correct."

"Sir," the voice of Battalion Commander [Yu Jiaren] came through the mask, carrying a hint of somberness. He squinted as he observed the steep slope of the sand dune. "The view from the slope is very wide; we can see several kilometers ahead."

“Then we can also be used as targets by green-skinned soldiers several kilometers away,” JK said without looking up, drawing a thick line on the data panel with his finger. “We need to build positions on the reverse slope.”

The Second Battalion Commander [EGO] immediately understood the intention: "This is sacrificing observation in exchange for concealment and protection against direct fire... Then we need eyes."

“That’s right,” JK stood up, straightened his back, and pointed to the slightly lower high points on both sides of the dune ridge. “Yu Jiaren, your battalion is responsible for the main defensive position. You’ll be digging on this reverse slope.”

“EGO, your battalion is responsible for the left flank, and here, here,” JK spread out his data board in front of everyone, on which two red dots were clearly marked on the professional military map, “set up two forward observation posts, and your eyes must always be on the horizon.”

“The Third Battalion…” JK paused, then turned his gaze to Assassin, who hadn’t said much throughout, “The Third Battalion serves as the regimental reserve and will build auxiliary positions on the right flank.”

At this moment, JK held up three fingers, his tone leaving no room for doubt: "Three large empty shipping containers will be delivered later. Yu Jiaren will use one to build your main machine gun position, Assassin will use one for the artillery company, and the remaining one will serve as the regimental command post. Any more questions?"

“Uh, well,” Assassin raised his hand somewhat blankly, his movements hesitant, “I didn’t quite understand. Where is the right flank? How exactly should we dig the auxiliary positions? And where should I place my artillery battery? And… why set up defensive positions here? What if the greens come from all directions?”

A series of questions made the atmosphere momentarily freeze.

“Oh, that was my oversight,” JK said without showing any impatience. He pondered for a moment and looked at Li Yongsi beside him. The other man understood immediately and pulled up a new, more simplified terrain map on JK’s data panel.

“Come here,” JK handed the data panel to Assassin. “This is the sand dune we are in now, which will be the main position in the future. This is the lowland to the right. You will dig your auxiliary positions here. First, dig foxholes, and then connect them with communication trenches. Your artillery battery will be set up in the rear. Once you receive the order, you will immediately open fire on the designated area.”

“As for why we set up defensive positions here,” JK’s lips curled into a confident smile, “if it were an individual, they could come from all directions. But a race like the Greenskins, which come in groups of thousands, would only have one direction for large-scale marches due to factors such as terrain and geology. Otherwise, they would get stuck in the quicksand before we even have to deal with them. Even if they don’t suffer large-scale casualties, they would become our targets and pose no threat at all.”

“Oh,” Assassin looked at the map and nodded thoughtfully, “I think I understand now.”

"If you understand, then carry it out. Dismissed!"

At JK's command, Yu Jiaren and EGO instinctively stood at attention, gave a crisp military salute, and then turned and left. Assassin, seeing this, quickly followed suit with a salute, but his movements were a beat slower and appeared somewhat clumsy. JK turned to Li Yongsi, who was still standing there: "Why are you still here? If you're going to ask a question like his, I'll start to suspect that you got in through connections."

"Hmph," Li Yongsi retorted, not to be outdone, "I'm just wondering why your game names aren't letters, but rather quite feminine, or a combination of letters and femininity. I didn't realize you grown men had such girlish hearts."

“It’s just a code name,” JK said calmly, his eyes showing no emotion. “You talk as if you’ve ever called me by my real name. And you’re quite adept at changing the subject.”

"Fuck you!" Li Yongsi laughed and cursed, landing a light punch on JK's shoulder.

After the playful fight, the atmosphere returned to calm. JK turned his head and looked at the battle barge moored in the sand on the distant horizon.

The massive ship, stretching ten kilometers, resembled a steel mountain range, casting a huge shadow and creating an unparalleled sense of oppression even from a distance. However, compared to when it first made its emergency landing, much of it had been buried by sandstorms, and in a few months, only half of the ship would likely be visible.

“To be honest,” JK’s voice was a little unsteady, “this is probably a scene I only dream of... I actually commanded an army of a thousand men and stepped onto the battlefield to fight aliens, and the most damn thing is that I used the fucking World War I tactics.”

"Do you have any objections to our advanced trench warfare?" Li Yongsi squinted and said in a half-joking tone, "Just in case you don't know, let me tell you again—World War I was at least in the early 20th century, while the sky was still in the era of giant ships and cannons in the late 19th century."

“That’s why I’m worried,” JK sighed, the wind blowing his short hair across his forehead.

"What are you worried about?" Li Yongsi raised an eyebrow. "The Assassins?"

“No, he knows how to ask questions he doesn’t understand, he’s a smart man, and he’s the last person I’m worried about,” JK said. “What I’m worried about is whether we will end up like this in the future? Stagnant, clinging to outdated tactics and ideas, struggling and sinking in quicksand until we are completely swallowed up.”

The playful mood on Li Yongsi's face vanished. He remained silent for a moment, and even the sound of the wind on the sand dunes seemed to grow desolate.

After a long silence, he finally spoke, his voice firm and powerful: "We are moving forward, aren't we?"

He looked at JK and said, word by word, "In any case, I believe that humanity has a bright and admirable future."
