Mystery: The Last Shepherd
Chapter 90 The Witch's Voice
Chapter 90 The Witch's Voice
Leonard kept implying to Dunn that the witch was a man in disguise, but unfortunately Dunn didn't understand him and only thought that Leonard had a sister in the Gnostic Society, which made Leonard feel very helpless.
While their conversation continued, Lu Ze took the arrest warrant and examined the face of the shy, round-faced man on it. Below the man's portrait were details of the crimes he had committed:
"Triss, suspected to be an Extraordinary Being, initially assessed as a Sequence 8 'Instigator,' with the possibility of being from the Gnostic Society, and the perpetrator of the Clover massacre. He landed at Enmat Port, and according to eyewitness accounts, has arrived in Tingen, but his current whereabouts are unknown."
The Clover Massacre was a heinous incident that occurred some time before Luze's transmigration. A ship named "Clover" was first attacked by pirates, followed by a violent internal conflict among the crew. Driven by primal desires, some passengers descended into chaos and madness, committing mass murder and destruction. It was later deduced that the root of the conflict likely lay with a passenger named Tris, who used his extraordinary abilities to incite the people to commit evil.
Based on the name of the potion, "Instigator," Luze speculated that Triss's purpose in causing the Clover disaster was to "play a role" in order to digest the potion more quickly.
To digest the potion, was it worth killing so many people? Or is it that the potion can only function by harming others?
That's so cruel.
Lu Ze thought to himself, "The Secret Prayer method is so crazy. Perhaps I will face a similar situation in the future. What will I choose then?"
While he was lamenting, Leonard had already explained things clearly over there—he suspected that Triss had drunk a magic potion and had transformed from a man into a woman. This amazing yet reasonable guess shocked both Klein and Dunn.
“No wonder the divination didn’t yield any results back then, because he has fundamentally changed,” Klein said. “Perhaps I can use this new clue to perform divination.”
“We don’t need to do divination for now. We’ve already located the last area, and we should be able to pinpoint its location this afternoon,” Dunn said, shaking his head. “Everyone, get ready, we’re leaving immediately.”
Are they about to find the witch?
Lu Ze immediately looked up. "Captain, can I come along?"
The three people who were packing their things all looked over at the same time.
“The other party is very likely a Sequence 7 powerhouse. Your Sequence is too low. If it weren’t for the need for Klein to confirm the location, I wouldn’t even be planning to bring him along.”
Dunn's deep, calm, iron-gray eyes dismissed Lu Ze.
But I desperately need the witch's heart.
Lu Ze smiled and said, "Captain, don't forget, I fought against a Sequence 5 back in Enmat Port! And I still have that thing you asked me to keep safe, so I'm definitely safe."
He patted the inside pocket of his chest, reminding Dunn that he was carrying the "Clockwork Joker".
Seeing that Dunn was still hesitant, he added, "Besides, I know a lot about ritual magic, which might be helpful in your investigation."
Dunn thought for a moment and asked, "Did you get enough rest this morning?"
"completely fine."
Lu Ze answered.
Having said all that, Dunn had no reason to refuse. The four of them put on their trench coats and hats, left the company, boarded a carriage, and headed to the last unexplored area.
Tingen City, West District.
It was dusk, and the sun was setting, casting its light on the Tasok River. The waves shimmered like golden scales, dancing endlessly on the water's surface. Unfortunately, the river water had a somewhat fishy smell, and the streets along the river were muddy, spoiling people's enjoyment of the beautiful scenery.
"Attention everyone, the target is a two-story gray-blue house with a garden."
The night watchmen stood on either side of the car windows, secretly peering out and searching for houses that met their requirements.
Lu Ze sat on the soft cushions of the carriage, which swayed gently. The warm afternoon breeze caressed his face, and his drowsiness returned.
No, I can't fall asleep.
Think about something else and clear your head.
That said, what does Ms. M intend to do with the life force she's collecting? If it's for a curse ritual, that's one thing, but if she's using it to heal her injuries, could I perhaps add something to it?
"come over."
Just then, he suddenly heard a woman's voice beside him. Who is it?
Lu Ze jolted awake, instantly dispelling his drowsiness. He looked up, slightly puzzled. The carriage was full of men, and the people on the street outside were some distance away, making it impossible for them to make such a clear sound.
Come here.
The voice rang out again, its tone alluring and provocative, with a hint of barely perceptible coldness, like smooth, icy snake scales brushing against my ear.
Lu Ze didn't speak. He looked around at his colleagues and saw that everyone else was still focused on searching the target house. It seemed that he was indeed the only one who had heard the sound.
Is it because of my "listening" nature that I've been exposed to things I shouldn't have heard?
Lu Ze had seen ominous things before, so he wasn't panicked. Instead, he relaxed and suppressed his hearing. But the sound didn't disappear; instead, it grew louder. The woman making the sound was whispering softly, her voice extremely seductive. The sound echoed in Lu Ze's mind, and his head began to ache.
Only then did he finally understand the problem.
No, it's not that I failed to suppress my hearing, but that our carriage is getting closer to the source of the sound!
Was this caused by that witch?
Lu Ze took a deep breath, focused all his senses on controlling them, and tried to minimize the impact of the sound.
"Found it, this is it."
Then he heard Klein's voice confirming.
Looking out the car window, a two-story gray-blue building came into view. It had a dilapidated garden, with withered plants, and only a few roses blooming bright red against the wall, but they did nothing to change the overall atmosphere.
Through his eyes, Lu Ze saw something translucent moving slowly in the shadows on the first floor, like several invisible giant snakes.
"Keep driving forward."
Dunn identified the house and instructed the coachman, Caesar, not to stop but to maintain a steady pace. The carriage continued for several more blocks until the house was out of sight, then quietly came to a stop.
"Don't rush over yet. We can be more effective at night. Until then, let's keep watch from outside."
Dunn said.
The group nodded in agreement. Lu Ze thought to himself, "I should have told Cecilia before I left, so she wouldn't have worried."
No, Ms. M can share his vision, so she'll probably remind her sister. Lu Ze, while suppressing the seductive voice of the woman in his head, smiled bitterly. He really didn't want that crazy woman to affect Cecilia.
Time passed by, and as evening approached, night soon fell.
Beside the carriage, the Tasok River flowed quietly in the darkness.
"Alright, let's get started. Klein, you don't need to fight, just get a feel for the atmosphere of a battle. Leonard and Luzer, you two follow me."
"Yes."
The group followed Dunn's instructions.
It was a new moon tonight, and the crimson moonlight wasn't very bright. Klein stayed a dozen meters away, nervously watching the three of them quietly approach the house.
A battle is inevitable.
