Mystery: The Last Shepherd
Chapter 73 An Awkward Death
Chapter 73 An Awkward Death
Klein's understanding of role-playing was quite profound, even more enlightening than Luze had anticipated. After listening to his explanation, the members of the Night Watch team all fell silent, seemingly understanding something, but still some distance from their ultimate goal.
This strange atmosphere lasted for several days, and even the slow-witted Rosanne could sense that something was wrong.
"Lu Ze, what's wrong with everyone lately?"
As soon as Lu Ze arrived at work that day, she nervously came over and asked.
"What's wrong? I don't know what you're talking about."
Lu Ze pretended to be stupid.
"They've all become strange, don't tell me you didn't notice!" Rosanne said anxiously. "I think only you and Leonard and the others seem normal. What happened?"
"I can't reveal that, I can only tell you it's good news," Lu Ze said with a smile. "Unless you want to learn more about the Night Watchers' confidentiality rules, then I can consult with the captain."
"No need!"
For some reason, Rosanne was very afraid of Dunn, and immediately shook her head in refusal when she heard Lu Ze say that.
She was about to find an excuse to end the conversation and return to the reception desk when she suddenly noticed that Lu Ze seemed to be holding some brightly colored piece of paper. She asked curiously, "Lu Ze, what are you holding?"
"Oh, this is a ticket for the Tingen Theatre."
Luzer held up two beautifully printed cardboard sheets and waved them in front of Rosanne. “The Merchant of Trier, adapted from the classic comedy of Emperor Roselle, best seats in the middle row, prime time this weekend evening.”
He specially went to the theater to book these tickets. He had already stood his sister up twice, and he couldn't possibly break his promise a third time. So he took it very seriously, making a special trip to the theater before work to get the best tickets.
"Want to go to the theater with your sister? That would be wonderful!"
Rosanne couldn't help but show an envious expression. "But I read in the newspaper that Backlund has a play called 'The Return of the Count' that is receiving great acclaim and will be performed in Tingen in a few weeks. Why not save the money for that play?"
"It's okay, I don't need the money."
Lu Ze, who had just received a raise, smiled confidently and said, "If the response is good, it doesn't matter if I spend more money."
"How wonderful! How awful!"
Amidst Rosanne's envious and jealous gaze, Lu Ze left the hall to go underground to study occult knowledge.
After reviewing the documents for a while while on paid leave, Lu Ze got a little tired and went back down to the floor, thinking of going to get a cup of black tea from Rosanne. As soon as he passed the partition, he saw Dunn and "corpse collector" Frye sitting in the sofa area, talking to a tall, fat police officer.
"Lu Ze? You've come at the right time."
Dunn greeted him, saying, "I need your help with something."
"What's wrong, Captain?"
Lu Ze walked over and asked.
He noticed that Frye wasn't wearing his usual formal attire, but rather the uniform of a trainee inspector. The uniform was crisp and black with white checks, paired with leather boots and a soft hat. A silver star on his epaulettes indicated his status as a trainee inspector. The uniform looked quite smart on Frye, who possessed a unique air about him, making him appear less like a corpse and more serious.
Luze also got a set of such uniforms after becoming a Night Watchman, but he doesn't usually wear them.
“This is Inspector Toller of the Tingen Police Department. He needs our help.”
Dunn introduced the police officer to him.
"Nice to meet you."
The tall inspector stood up and kindly extended his hand to Lu Ze.
I feel like I've heard that name somewhere before. Oh right, it was back when I joined the team. He was the officer who handled three murder scenes in one night.
Lu Ze exchanged a few polite words with the other party with a hint of sympathy, and then chose a sofa to sit down.
"Is such that."
After Inspector Toller sat down, he began to explain the situation. It turned out that a viscount from Tingen had died unexpectedly the previous night. Because it involved a nobleman, the police were under a lot of pressure and hoped that the night watchman could provide some assistance in identifying the murderer as soon as possible, or at least finding out the cause of death.
Lu Ze looked at Dunn.
"From the current situation, this case doesn't involve any mystery. Your main task is to provide clues when you get there. Klein is off today. I originally planned to send Frye to perform the autopsy, but since you're here, you can come along and make use of your ritual and 'eyes'."
Dunn said, “Yes, Captain, I understand.”
Lu Ze hadn't had much to do lately and was relatively free, so he naturally had no objections to Dunn's arrangements. He went to the lounge to change into his trainee inspector's uniform, took his identification, and followed Inspector Toller out of the security company's gate and boarded a carriage bearing the police insignia.
"So, how did Viscount Dorset die, and why do you think his death is suspicious?"
Inside the swaying carriage, Lu Ze asked.
Upon hearing Luze's question, Inspector Toller looked extremely embarrassed.
"Well, the situation at the scene wasn't very respectable. To show respect for the deceased, I won't go into details. Please go and see for yourselves."
You're just teasing me.
Seeing that Inspector Tolle was genuinely unwilling to speak, Lu Ze stopped pressing the matter and closed his eyes to rest. As he crossed his arms, he subconsciously pressed his chest. In his inner left pocket were a bone flute and a bell, and in his right pocket was a wind-up clown. Fortunately, all three items were relatively small and wouldn't be noticeable through his clothes.
After testing for a while, he discovered that the Joker's spring had a limit; when the spiritual energy was infused to a certain level, the spring would lock again and become unwound. In this state, the spring could last for about three minutes. However, for close combat, three minutes was more than enough.
The carriage traveled all the way to the most upscale district of Tingen, the Golden Planewood, and stopped in front of a luxurious detached villa. This villa, belonging to the Dorset family, was even better than Mr. Azik's, with a vast area surrounded by gardens, artificial fountains, and lawns. Straight, wide roads connected the stables, gardeners' quarters, servants' quarters, wine cellar, and other scattered areas.
At this moment, a large number of police officers are guarding outside.
Led by Inspector Toller, Luzer and Fry entered the main building. They saw several elegantly dressed men and women being surrounded by police officers in the living room, being questioned. The police were very respectful, while the expressions on the faces of these distinguished individuals, besides arrogance, also showed a hint of embarrassment and anger.
What exactly happened to that viscount that caused them all to look like this?
Lu Ze became increasingly curious.
They went up to the second floor and Toller gestured for the police officers guarding the bedroom to move aside. He then handed each of them a pair of white gloves. "Thank you both. I hope you can help us find some clues."
The two put on gloves, pushed open the door, and were met with an unbelievable scene.
Viscount Dorset's body was covered by a white sheet, and a protrusion on his body was holding the sheet high, maintaining this posture even though he was dead.
The two were stunned.
"This is really...so firm."
After a moment, Frye spoke hesitantly, his cold face showing a hint of distress.
Yes, we'll have to lift the white sheet to examine the body in a bit, and I really don't want to see that kind of scene.
Lu Ze was also speechless.
Fry looked around the room and easily found some powder on the bedside table.
"Mummy powder, for entertainment purposes."
He didn't seem surprised at all.
"Poor Viscount."
Lu Ze shook his head, and for some reason, he suddenly blurted out, "I think he might need a deeper coffin."
"why?"
"Because if it's too shallow, the coffin lid might be pushed up."
After Lu Ze finished speaking, the corresponding scene involuntarily appeared in his mind, and then he couldn't help but burst out laughing.
"Ahahahaha!"
His laughter grew even stronger, and he couldn't help but burst into loud laughter. His laughter was so intense that it could be heard through the door.
"Lu Ze, keep your voice down!"
Frye reminded him.
"Hahaha! I can't control myself!"
But Lu Ze couldn't help himself. He covered his mouth with his hand, but laughter still escaped from the corners of his mouth, echoing loudly in the bedroom. He saw the door being pushed open, and Inspector Tolle looked at them in astonishment, as well as several noblemen rushing downstairs with an imposing air.
Oh no, this is not as simple as just being killed.
