Doomsday America
Chapter 8 That's high technology!
Chapter 8 That's high technology!
Among countless pickup trucks, the Dodge Tyrannosaurus Rex is definitely a top-quality model.
Although Madison modestly claimed that his car was cheap, Gavin had actually seen him boast about his car-buying style more than once in the team.
Moreover, Texas has its own farm ecosystem and cowboy culture.
As one of the first states in the US to embrace the large-scale farm ecosystem, pickup trucks, which are convenient for transportation and rugged, have been the most sought-after vehicle type by Texas farmers since the invention of the automobile.
Gavin is a native of Dallas and Cowboys, holding the highest status in NFL history and a sports legend whose prestige in Texas far surpasses that of the governor.
He doesn't need to do anything extra to appeal to the Cowboys' fanbase; they already adore him.
But Madison, a Chicago native, probably has ambitions to fully integrate into the team and even retire here after adapting to the Cowboys.
So, in his second year with the team, after winning his first championship, this guy started buying all sorts of pickup trucks and constantly proclaiming his love for pickup trucks in public to cater to the Texas cowboys.
Admittedly, at least many cowboys in Texas believe that this guy has cowboy blood.
Of course, most cowboys still felt that he was more suited to picking cotton.
In short, Gavin was certain it was an excellent car, perfectly suited to Texas roads and the apocalyptic atmosphere of the future.
but……
Gavin frowned, pointed to the Dodge Tyrannosaurus Rex in the distance, and whispered to Madison.
“You have a great car, but its location… is a bit far from the parking lot exit.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin moved his finger toward the left side of the parking lot.
About 30 meters to the left and rear of the helicopter crash site, there was a Hummer parked there.
Gavin continued speaking.
"In my opinion, the Hummer that might be used by security personnel is more suitable for us; it's parked right next to the parking lot exit."
“Once we start it, we only need to turn left for seven or eight meters to rush out of the parking lot and onto the road leading away from the manor.”
"Fake!"
Upon hearing Gavin's statement, Madison couldn't help but curse, then rubbed his scalp in frustration and said...
"That's my Tyrannosaurus Rex, which I just modified six months ago!"
"So, is it comparable to the twenty-odd years of life you've cherished?"
Gavin patted him on the shoulder, offering a half-hearted consolation to the big guy.
After a brief silence, Madison nodded helplessly.
"You win, so now we're going to lure those zombies away, right? With the bottles we have?"
"Yes."
Gavin waved the empty wine bottle in his hand.
"Those zombies are too fast. If we encounter them head-on, we'll have little chance of survival."
"We may be faster than them, but our endurance is probably far inferior to theirs."
"Of course, this is just speculation, but I guess no one wants to race against a zombie in a long-distance race, the kind where you risk your life."
“If zombies were as slow-moving as they are in The Walking Dead, I would have a hundred ways to deal with them, but right now, all we can do is lure them.”
"I'm planning to throw a bottle to the right of the parking lot in a bit, to try and keep them away from the helicopter."
“If they do indeed follow the sound and stay near where the bottle landed, then we’ll go back to your room and continue dragging the zombies to the back of the manor.”
"If all goes well, we'll continue throwing bottles at the other end of the villa to lure them as far away from the parking lot as possible."
"We're inside, they're outside. We're lucky, thank the helicopter, Mike!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin patted Old Mac on the shoulder again.
Old Mai nodded emphatically.
"I knew you always had a plan!"
Even a simple plan gradually put Madison at ease.
As he relaxed, Gavin took out two car keys from his pocket.
"It's not over yet, buddy. Once we start the car, there's a good chance the zombies will be attracted by the engine sound again."
“I don’t like taking risks, and I don’t want to gamble that they can’t hear me.”
"So I took another look and sure enough, the two car keys in the boss's room belonged to his usual car and hadn't been thrown into the garage."
"Look to your right, those two cars are parked together, at the far right end of the parking lot."
"If we are chased by zombies when we leave, we can use the lights and unlocking sounds of these two cars to distract them, even if it's just a small part of their attention."
"Of course, we may not need them, after all, the Hummer's location is too good."
"We can speed out of the parking lot in less than two seconds. There's no reason those filthy bastards could catch a pickup truck with at least 800 horsepower!"
“Well done, but how did you know those two cars were the boss’s? There’s more than one Rolls-Royce in the parking lot.”
"Because there was only one Rolls-Royce parked right next to the Corvette." Hearing this, Madison pursed his lips excitedly.
Gavin's addition gave him even more confidence. He clenched his fist and excitedly punched Gavin's chest.
"Having you is my blessing, man. Whether it's a championship or a chance to escape, I can always get them with you. You're a fucking genius, Gavin!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Madison turned around and continued to look excitedly at the Hummer at the parking lot exit.
As he looked, he reached out his hand to Gavin and said.
"Give me the keys to the Hummer. I'll drive it in a bit, and you can rest in the car."
"I don't miss my Tyrannosaurus Rex at all now. It was great, but it wasn't right for me. We were destined to be apart."
"Now I'm a Hummer party member. I support Hummer in the election. Anyway, it's fine if an idiot sits in that position. At least a car is still useful."
After saying that, Madison reached out his hand expectantly again.
And Gavin...
He shrugged expressionlessly.
"How could I possibly have the keys to a Hummer? I already said it might be a security guard's car. Do you think I would have the time to ignore Victoria's Secret Angels and try to get close to security guards before tonight?"
"So what exactly are you planning, boss? We can't even get to the core of the plan. Without the key, how are we supposed to drive that car? With our iron will?!"
Madison felt like she was about to break down.
Gavin glanced at Madison with a strange look in his eyes and replied.
"Stop messing around, Mike. Right now, without the police and media watching us, you could steal a car!"
After saying that, Gavin nudged Madison's elbow encouragingly and looked at him with an encouraging gaze.
Meeting Gavin's gaze, Madison stared blankly for a moment before speaking to Gavin in disbelief.
"Wait, Gavin, what exactly is my impression on you?"
"I'm a player, I even went to college, what makes you think I would steal a car? I've never done anything like that!"
"Is it?"
Upon hearing this, Gavin immediately rolled his eyes.
"Tsk tsk, a kid who grew up on the streets of Chicago. While you were out there hanging out on the streets, I was still dealing with gannets on my family's farm."
"I... Fuck Chicago!"
Madison was speechless; his facial features almost contorted in pain.
After a long period of blank stare, he finally responded weakly.
“I’m so sorry I didn’t go down the path of crime, Gavin.”
"But that's not important, is it? Let's talk about the new plan. I actually have a deep connection with Tyrannosaurus Rex."
"It cost me at least $300,000. The car has a super awesome sound system and engine that I modified. I love them to death."
As soon as he finished speaking, Madison squatted down and turned his head away, not really wanting to see Gavin's face.
Gavin stared at the parking lot in silence for a moment before speaking.
"Alright, Tyrannosaurus Rex is indeed a good car, but unfortunately it's parked in the middle of the parking lot, at least fifty meters from the exit."
"To drive it to the exit, you have to quickly make two turns and avoid other cars that have been damaged by zombies."
"From this perspective, although the parking positions of the vehicles in the parking lot have changed, they haven't completely blocked the Tyrannosaurus Rex."
"Of course, the most important thing is that we have no other choice!"
"and many more!"
Upon hearing Gavin's words, Madison couldn't help but interrupt him and ask a question.
"Why haven't you mentioned your car yet? What about your Aston Martin? Isn't it closer to the exit?"
"Even without a key, that thing should have fingerprint recognition, right? That's fucking high-tech!"
"Ha ha……"
Faced with Madison's question, Gavin remained silent for a while before raising his hand to grip the doorknob of the staircase leading to the outside, gazing at the garden and parking lot beyond.
“My car does have fingerprint unlocking and it is indeed closer to the exit, so we really don’t need a car key, but the bad news is that we never will.”
"If you want to remind me how unlucky I am, just look at that damn helicopter."
"Take a good look with your own eyes. Look at that burning ruin beneath it. Is there any possibility that it might have another name?"
"That's a fucking Aston Martin!"
