Doomsday America
Chapter 45 Standard
Chapter 45 Standard
After speaking, Gavin shrugged at the crowd who were watching him.
Madison rolled his eyes and sighed.
"As expected of you, boss. You've already thought so far ahead, and you've even managed to discover new uses for rock candy... It's pretty outrageous."
"It's not that far, after all, the drug-addicted war god just warned us."
Gavin picked up where Madison left off, pointing to the drug-addled god of war in the distance with his wildly imaginative ideas.
Since we've brought up this guy, Gavin decided to give everyone a few serious instructions. So he patted the RV's cargo area and emphasized what he had to say.
"Honestly, we bastards were really lucky to have gotten together in the early stages of the zombie apocalypse."
At this point, Gavin looked at Winnie, who was rolling her eyes, and laughed.
"Stop making faces, kid. You're not one of the bastards I'm talking about."
Not far away, Doris collapsed in the blink of an eye, so I'm one of the bastards?
Gavin ignored the crying woman's awkward expression and continued speaking.
"But guys, we can't forget to point our guns at any stranger just because we haven't exchanged fire with each other."
"America has never been a paradise. We who live here know how bastard it is, especially the guys in the White House and those damn rich people, and the drug addicts."
"In short, we must remember that no matter who is standing in front of us, we must remain vigilant, and if we are forced to fire, we must be the ones to fire first!"
At this point, Gavin patted his thigh.
"By the way, thanks to Eugene in my car, this whole mess just now could have been much worse if I had been on my own."
“From now on, we must act just like we did today. If we can successfully reach my farm and settle down there, then no action can be taken alone!”
"Working in pairs is the foundation. If we can gather more people, then three-person operations and six-person teams can better guarantee everyone's safety."
"That's all for now. The scenery in this area is quite nice. Let's rest for the time it takes to smoke a cigarette, and then continue towards the Costa Rica airport!"
After saying that, Gavin reached into his pocket to look for tobacco.
Upon seeing this, Eugene casually took out a cigarette and handed one to Gavin.
"Hey boss, try the Arrow Shield you gave me, this stuff's strong!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Eugene broke off the match that came with the Wrigley's cigarette pack and lit Gavin's cigarette.
Seeing this, William opened his mouth in confusion.
When did Eugene start calling him "boss" so naturally?
Influence is not something one is born with; a leader's position is solidified by constantly making decisions and issuing commands.
Gavin's six years of experience managing the Cowboys had already made him accustomed to the role and responsibilities of a team leader.
He knows exactly how to give everyone a pep talk, boost team morale, relieve team stress, and enjoy some perks along the way.
Just like now, listening to his instructions and the concern in his words, no one would feel any resistance to Gavin's commanding tone.
They became more and more accustomed to Gavin's commands; it was a gradual process.
At this moment, seeing Gavin start smoking, everyone consciously picked up their coffee cups and enjoyed the rare break.
Only William was still clutching the rock candy, looking a little worried.
He stumbled over to Gavin, handed him the bag of rock candy, and said...
"You'd better just do what you say and only use these things to do what you say."
"Ha, you're worried about me. If that's the case, then you can keep the rock sugar yourself, as long as you can take it out without missing a single piece when we need it."
Gavin waved to William, indicating that William should handle those things himself.
William scrutinized Gavin's face, trying to discern the truth of his words.
After observing for a moment, William realized he couldn't understand Gavin, so he handed him the rock candy.
Gavin patted the back of his hand.
"Keep it. I have too many things to think about, I don't have time to focus on a bag of rock sugar."
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin took the rock candy and put it back in William's pocket.
William remained silent for a moment, then leaned one leg against the carriage and silently looked at Gavin.
Noticing Gavin's furrowed brow, William took a deep breath and tentatively asked Gavin.
"Boss... are you worried about those two corpses?"
"Oh?"
Upon hearing this, Gavin looked at William meaningfully and said encouragingly, "Why do you think I'm worried about those things? Tell me your thoughts."
"Uh……"
When Gavin asked him a question, William pursed his lips, then pointed to the two corpses and said softly.
“I just noticed that both of the corpses had more than one fatal wound.”
"The woman in the red dress had her heart shattered by a shotgun blast, and she also had a rifle wound through her head."
"The one who was on drugs had a gunshot wound through his heart and a dagger wound through his head!"
At this point, William's tone gradually became more confident, and he continued.
"So, what circumstances would allow you and Eugene to kill them again after you've already killed them?"
"Eugene might do something stupid to vent his anger, but I don't think a rational person like you would waste bullets on venting, so..."
William swallowed hard.
"So, boss, did something happen to them that required you to kill them twice?"
"In other words, even if they weren't bitten by zombies after they died, they would probably still turn into zombies, just like in the TV series!"
In 2013, The Walking Dead even out-rated Breaking Bad, the king of American TV shows.
In terms of peak viewership, even shows like Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and Friends, which have terrifyingly high ratings, can only barely be equated with The Walking Dead Season 2.
Upon hearing William's words, Madison, who was chatting, quickly looked over at Gavin, as did Doris and Winnie.
Meeting everyone's gazes, Gavin remained silent for a moment, then nodded and smiled.
“You are very perceptive and serious, just like the young police officer I imagined, William.”
"As for what you said, that's true. We probably all carry the zombie virus, so even if we aren't bitten by a zombie, we might still turn into one after we die."
"I was going to tell you later, but I will definitely tell you, because I also want to remind you to try to rest alone and to lock your bedroom door when you go to sleep."
"I don't want to see anyone who has a heart attack and dies suddenly in the middle of the night, then have the chance to pounce on their teammates and kiss them a couple of times."
"I definitely don't want to wake up one day to find my perfectly good camp completely destroyed because someone suddenly died and turned into a zombie, haha~"
He skillfully used a joke to ease the psychological impact on everyone, and then used a plausible reason to dispel the risk that they might feel he was hiding information from them.
Gavin put his hand on William's shoulder.
“You’re very good, William. As the undisputed King of Texas by the internet and media, I acknowledge that you are already a qualified, sharp, and conscientious police officer.”
"So, do you want to swear an oath to me, haha~"
Amidst the laughter, Gavin stood up, threw his cigarette butt on the ground and stomped it out, then patted his pants.
Eugene joined in with a loud laugh.
"Come on, quarterback, we don't follow the English system in America. You're not the Queen, and at least you're not a woman!"
"As for whether we'll turn into zombies after we die, screw it! As long as it doesn't stop me from sleeping with women and having kids, I don't care what kind of weird stuff is inside my body!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Eugene expertly inspected his gun.
After checking the guns again, Gavin casually remarked.
"That's right, Eugene is absolutely right. When I meet a clean, beautiful, and intelligent woman, I'll have a child for you guys like Rick did to prove we're healthy!"
"Wait, is that kid in the TV series Sean's or Rick's?"
"Whatever, by then you can completely forget about the zombie virus, haha!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin clapped his hands loudly.
"Alright, let's stop resting here. We're just a stone's throw away from my house!"
"Stay close to me, stay alert, take care of yourselves, and don't give up on the last few steps, guys!"
After saying that, Gavin strode back to the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Eugene followed him as usual. Madison and William then took Doris and the other two back to the RV.
Only Winnie lay on the RV's dining table, gazing intently at the Tyrannosaurus Rex through the window.
and so……
Are the standards clean, pretty, and smart?
