Chapter 27 You're Still a Long Way From Growing Up

"hehe."

Gavin smiled noncommittally as he listened to Eugene's explanation.

Look at Eugene's expression, is he trying to persuade Gavin?

That was basically Eugene convincing himself!

Hearing Gavin's mocking laughter, Eugene rubbed his scalp in annoyance and stood up dejectedly.

But just as he was about to explain further, he saw Gavin raise his hand and tap the car window facing Palmer.

Eugene.

Upon hearing Gavin mention his name, Eugene instinctively shut his mouth and looked at Gavin suspiciously.

Gavin pointed in Palmer's direction and continued speaking to Eugene.

"Actually, when William suggested going back to Ennis to find out if his brother was alive or dead, I had a suggestion that I hadn't told him yet."

"As for the reason, you should be able to understand. His request is too excessive and too self-centered. He doesn't consider the life or death of the team members at all. So not only will I not agree to his request, I will also teach him a lesson!"

"I originally wanted to let him stay in the cold wind for a while, until he sobered up and at least used his brain a bit, before telling him my idea."

"But I don't think you're much better than William. You two are both brainless, reckless and impulsive."

"But the good news is, I've found that you're actually quite loyal."

At this point, Gavin stood up and grabbed Eugene's shoulder.

Eugene struggled a couple of times in resistance, but his efforts were weak, and Gavin eventually pulled him up by the shoulder and pressed him against the car window.

Gavin put his arm around his shoulder and smiled as he spoke to him.

"You may not admit it, but I only believe what I see, and I think you have qualities that I admire."

"So let me give you a suggestion. Look over there, do you see that billboard on the side of the road? It's the one with the Palmer Resort advertisement."

As he spoke, Gavin pointed in the direction of the billboard.

Seeing this, Eugene nodded.

Having received a response, Gavin continued speaking to Eugene.

“I know you and William are neighbors, your two houses must be very close.”

"Considering that William's dad is already stuck on the RV's bumper, that means that when Winnie's family's RV passed through Ennis, your two houses were at least very close to the road."

"Otherwise, William's dad wouldn't have had a chance to catch up with the RV, let alone get stuck on the bumper... Anyway, let's not talk about this, let's get down to business."

Gavin's expression faltered halfway through his sentence, while Eugene rolled his eyes awkwardly.

Eugene had nothing to say about the fate of William's half-father.

After Gavin composed himself, he continued speaking to Eugene.

"Getting back to the point, first of all, I won't mention whether William's teenage brother can survive since his father has already turned into a zombie."

"Given that your two families live so close to the road, if your sister and William's brother were to turn into zombies while William's father was attracted to the RV, wouldn't they also be attracted to it?"

"So my advice is, before you and William decide whether to risk going to Ennis to find news of your relatives, you should hide on the billboard I'm pointing to."

"Once the zombie horde from Ennis's direction arrives, observe the billboards and see if any of your relatives are among them before making a decision."

As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin released Eugene and said calmly.

"If you think this is a good idea, I'll give you your gun right now. How about it, want to take the risk?"

"Give it to me now, fuck. If I don't make a sound on the billboard, I shouldn't get spotted by the zombies!"

Eugene gave himself a fierce pep talk and then went to the RV door.

Seeing this, Gavin stopped him and continued speaking.

"Don't rush, I haven't finished speaking yet. If either of you does something foolish because you found a relative in the zombie horde, and attracts the attention of the zombie horde..."

"Remember, don't leave the billboard immediately. I'll drive around to the end of the artificial lake to distract the zombies."

"Now you'll have a much better chance of making a living. Remember you owe me one, Eugene."

After saying that, Gavin went to Eugene's side, opened the car door and got out before him.

When Gavin got out of the car, William suddenly looked up at Gavin, but Gavin ignored him completely, went straight to the Tyrannosaurus Rex car and took Eugene's two guns, and also grabbed a military knife.

After handing the gun to Eugene, Gavin patted the tactical knife strapped to his calf and said.

"I quite like the dagger, so I won't give it to you yet. As a reward, take this."

As they spoke, Gavin handed him the military knife.

Catching the knife, Eugene grinned and lightly flicked the blade. "Tsk tsk, this pattern... this knife must be worth at least three thousand dollars, right?"

"What a joke, you poor bastard. This thing costs at least eight thousand knives, but it's not very sharp. You can sharpen it yourself when you have time."

Gavin patted Eugene on the shoulder, then went back to the RV and closed the door.

Eugene then hung his sword on his belt, walked up to William with a cold smile, and kicked William's shin.

"Get up, you bastard!"

"Eugene..."

Seeing Eugene all ready to go, William guessed what was going on, so he shook his head with difficulty and said.

"You're right, don't go crazy with me, I'm just... a little confused, can you give me some more time, I...?"

"We're running out of time, trainee cop. For my sake, the quarterback just pointed me in the right direction. He's got a real idea, damn it!"

Eugene interrupted William, grabbed him, and dragged him into Old Ford.

As he started the car, Eugene told William about Gavin's suggestion, and then Old Ford drove all the way to the billboard.

Inside the RV, after Gavin sat back down on the sofa, Madison turned over and looked at the dust kicked up by the departing Ford, asking Gavin a question.

"Will they really not be discovered by the zombies? If they are discovered, can they really survive?"

"You're awake?" Gavin asked.

"They're awake, and then what? Will they survive?" Madison pressed.

“I’m not sure. After all, all I’m sure of right now is that zombies have hearing, but I don’t know anything about their vision and sense of smell,” Gavin said, shaking his head.

“What if they just die like that…” Madison hesitated.

“Then I’ll have an understanding of zombies’ sense of smell and sight, and the more information we have, the greater our chances of survival in the future,” Gavin immediately replied.

Upon hearing this, Madison remained silent for a long time before finally speaking.

"They're just bait right now. Isn't that a bit of a waste? They should be able to help us a lot. More people means more help."

"so what?"

Hearing Madison's explanation, Gavin shrugged and continued.

“They have their reasons for taking the risk, and I respect their choice.”

"Besides, as Eugene said, times have changed, and we will have to take risks sooner or later in the face of the end of the world."

"They chose to take this risk today simply because they got there first."

"Even if they died today, they would only be one step ahead of us. Who can live forever?"

At this point, Gavin got up and went to the passenger side to open the window.

In the driver's seat, Madison watched Gavin smoke while also keeping an eye on Eugene and the other man's movements.

From a distance, they could be seen stepping on the old Ford and quickly climbing onto the billboard, which was about six meters high.

They climbed up the curtain to the top of the billboard, where they lay horizontally, motionless.

Gavin glanced at his watch, flicked his cigarette ash, and said softly.

"Madison, don't be so pessimistic. Their chances of survival are not small."

"Judging by the time, the Ennis zombie horde should arrive soon. They might even meet up with us before Doris has finished cooking."

As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin picked up his binoculars and silently looked toward Eugene's position.

While Gavin was observing, Winnie slowly sat up from the bed in the back of the RV and asked Gavin from a distance.

"Boss, will you use me as bait when I grow up?"

Wow!

Doris, who was pouring seasonings into the stew, dropped the seasoning box on the ground upon hearing this.

Upon hearing this, Gavin turned around and smiled.

"Just you?"

Gavin rolled his eyes at Winnie as he continued to tease her.

"You're still a long way off. If you want to be bait, you'll at least have to be fast enough, and you'll also have to learn to drive or ride a horse."

"Besides, the fact that you can even ask this question means you're still a long way from growing up."

"Kid."
