Chapter 131 A Series of Accidents
Chapter 131 A Series of Accidents
The accident at Turn 2 immediately triggered the safety car, and the drivers who retired from the race left the track through the passage next to the fence.
Wu Shi returned to the pit lane, still somewhat annoyed by the accident. He should have cut off the turn earlier and gotten away from the traffic.
However, on the track, no one can predict what will happen next. Even the most experienced drivers cannot anticipate all possible situations on the track.
Wu Shi spent the rest of the morning sitting in the repair area. The mechanics brought back the wrecked race car, and the technicians assessed that the repairs weren't too difficult.
This is thanks to the fact that Turn 2 is a hairpin bend, which slows down all vehicles when they enter the bend, so any accidents that occur will not cause too much damage to the race car, at least not to its core components.
Verstappen's start was also not smooth; he dropped to fourth place at Turn 2 due to a blockage.
On the fourth lap, the track resumed, and the engines of the cars in front roared to life.
After surging past the starting straight and the first fake turn, Verstappen launched an attack without hesitation at the second turn.
His inside runs were so aggressive that they affected the three cars in front of him.
Bromquist was closest to him and had to sidestep him, while Ocon was more ruthless, wanting to overtake Rosenquist directly.
All of this happened at the same time, with the four cars tangled together in utter chaos. The tangled mess of cars only broke apart when Rosenquist, who had finally climbed to the top, exited the corner.
Ocon followed closely behind, while Verstappen had somehow taken over third place.
Bromqvist lost his position, but things got worse as his change of course caught the riders behind him off guard, resulting in a direct collision.
Bang! Click!
His car came to a stop, but the impact wasn't serious. He tried to start the vehicle, only to find that the other car's front wing had rammed into the side compartment of his car.
He's stuck!
He waved anxiously, signaling Matthew to come over quickly and push the other person away.
However, Matthew didn't notice; he remembered frantically banging on the car, and the fish caught his attention.
The two Matthews ran over and tried to separate the two vehicles, but after nearly a minute of trying, they were unsuccessful.
"Hey! Push him away! Push him away! I'm stuck!"
Bromquist opened his goggles, waved his hands, and shouted, as if this would make Matthew more powerful.
But all of this was in vain. After another half minute, his waving hands gradually lowered.
Finally, as if resigned to his fate, he removed the steering wheel, climbed out of the cockpit, and his race was over.
Due to the accident at Turn 2, the safety car was brought out again, this time for the entire ninth lap.
The race officially resumed on lap ten, with another dynamic start.
Clearly, Verstappen's dynamic starting ability is far superior to his static start; he almost caught up with Ocon very quickly.
Unfortunately, the straight was about to end, and before turn two, the three cars in the front row were once again engaged in a chase.
O'Connor drove into the paint first, both for defense and to get ahead.
He slammed down on the curb, sending the race car soaring high into the air. Thanks to the shorter cornering distance, his car aligned itself more quickly with the exit direction.
However, the high road shoulders greatly affected the speed of the race cars, and Rosenquist was able to pass at a faster speed from the outside!
This was a failed attempt; not only did it fail to surpass its competitors, it almost cost it its own position.
Fortunately, Verstappen was blocked and unable to launch an effective attack, so he could only continue to follow him.
The three cars finally made it safely through turn two.
"Their matches are too brutal," Wu Shi commented.
"You think you're so gentle?" Alan couldn't help but retort.
"Not bad, right?" Wu Shi chuckled.
The next two laps were relatively calm, with Ocon demonstrating a clearer grasp of the track than Rosenqvist, and he was now closing in on Rosenqvist.
The attack started at Turn 2 again!
This time, Ocon didn't drive over the high shoulder; instead, he used a closer distance to throw the front of his car in, forcing Rosenquist to move aside.
Rosenquist pressed the perimeter, trying to replicate his defensive strategy from the previous laps, but he took the corners a little too wide, losing a tiny bit of time. Whoosh!
Ocon gained more space to accelerate at full speed after entering the straight, so he managed to run alongside Rosenquist and then overtake him.
The performance of the Prema car was on full display at this moment, and Rosenquist's KFZT race car was no match for it.
Rosenquist, who thought he could finally breathe a sigh of relief after Ocon left, felt a chill run down his spine. He looked in the rearview mirror and saw the number "30" on the nose cone of the race car behind him.
'Damn it! It's that lunatic!'
With a sigh of relief, he was prepared to fight to the death at Turns 4 and 5 when he suddenly saw a hand reaching out from behind the guardrail.
Yellow flags are waved.
Oh dear, there's been another accident at turn two behind us.
This time, it was Giovinazzi who clashed with Jordan King.
The camera also focused on Turn 2.
Giovinazzi climbed out of the car, walked to the side of the track, sat down, and clutched his chest as if he were crying.
Matthew, who was standing next to him, immediately went over and patted his helmet: "Are you alright?"
"Yes, my chest hurts a little."
Seeing that there was no serious injury, Matthew left to clean up the race car.
Giovinazzi sat on the ground in pain, sometimes bowing his head and sometimes clutching his chest, it was unclear whether he was in too much pain or saddened by his withdrawal from the competition.
"This second bend is almost magical." Wu Shi ruffled his hair into a mess.
“Because everyone wants to overtake here,” Alan said.
Indeed, the track feels very straight, with only a few hairpin bends offering opportunities to overtake.
Sure enough, when the grid restarted on lap nineteen, Verstappen launched another attack on Ocon at turn two.
Unlike the previous times, no one could get close enough, so this time there were only two people in the entanglement.
Verstappen's movement was skillful yet forceful, forcing Ocon to defend once before quickly slipping out through a gap on the side.
This is a slow-in, fast-out posture, while Ocon's exit from the corner was affected by the defense in front.
The two cars exchanged time, and after exiting the bend, they were side by side.
Just as Wu Shi was about to see how Pan Zi would handle the next bend, his phone vibrated.
Buzz~!
"When grudges and favors are evenly divided, how can I possibly take sides?"
He took out his phone, saw it was Louise calling, and answered immediately: "Hey, what's up?"
I see you've had a car accident, are you alright?
"It's nothing, just a little bump, don't worry about it. Focus on your studies." Wu Shi knew that this girl was secretly watching the game during her tutoring class again.
"It was during break time, and I saw it as soon as I opened Twitter," Louise explained with a pout, clearly knowing that Wu Shi thought she was secretly watching the game again.
"Alright, after this competition, we'll have more free time, so we can take advantage of that time to go out and relax," Wu Shi said.
"Yeah ヾ(▽)ノ!"
"But you must study hard. Since you've decided to study in Germany, you need to be well-prepared."
“Hey! I know~ It’s not like I necessarily have to go to Germany to study.” Louise muttered.
While chatting with Louise, Wu Shi happened to see Verstappen's brilliant overtaking maneuver, but since he was on the phone with Louise, he didn't cheer like the rest of the team.
