Chapter 112 Explosion
Chapter 112 Explosion (Seeking monthly votes and recommendations)
For the first 30 seconds after the car accident, everyone was stunned. Only after Patrick Kennedy was helped up by his bodyguards did Henry Ford become visibly flustered, standing up and asking questions.
"Sir...are you alright?"
Without a word, one of the bodyguards walked over to the car and grabbed Henry Ford.
Henry Ford turned pale and quickly covered his head with his hands, fearing he would be beaten.
Larry was startled and quickly stepped forward to block the bodyguard. "Please don't take action, this was an accident!"
As he spoke, Larry turned to look at Patrick Kennedy, who had just stood up. The latter was covering his head, staring curiously at the strange machine that had just knocked him down…
Upon hearing Larry's voice, Mr. Kennedy looked up at him, his gaze slightly grave, as if he were trying to recall: the blond boy who had just spoken to him seemed familiar.
The bodyguard clenched his fist, but didn't strike. Instead, he turned to look at Mr. Kennedy, waiting for his order.
Mr. Kennedy frowned and remained silent.
Larry took two steps forward and hurriedly explained, “Sir, it was an accident. The inventor was testing his new invention; he didn’t bump into you intentionally. It was completely an accident…”
Mr. Kennedy suddenly slapped his forehead and smiled at Larry. “Oh, I remember now, you gave little Joseph ice cream… Oh, you’ve really put me in a difficult position. Since then, little Joseph has been eating it almost every day.”
Larry paused for a moment, then quickly nodded and gave Mr. Kennedy a smile.
Larry felt that the legendary Boston upstart, the big shot behind Logan's father, had a special charisma that was beyond ordinary people.
After being hit by Henry Ford, he did not show any anger. His calm and composed demeanor made it seem as if the accident had never happened.
Even in Larry's view, after being hit, Mr. Kennedy was only trying to figure out "how this happened" and how he should respond afterward, rather than getting angry because he was hit.
Mr. Kennedy glanced at the Ford car again before waving to the two bodyguards and saying, "...It wasn't one of theirs. This must be an accident. You two go back and continue the search..."
The two bodyguards responded, put Henry Ford down, and then turned and walked back to the bar.
Just then, a loud "bang" resounded through the bar, a chilling explosion echoing through the air!
As crimson flames rose, the bar's doors warped and the glass shattered.
The two bodyguards who had just reached the door were hit by the blast wave, and one of them fell backward and crashed heavily to the ground.
Larry instinctively hid behind the car, and the onlookers screamed, some lying on the ground, others running away as fast as they could...
Among the sprawling crowd, only Mr. Kennedy stood there, head held high, eyes squinting as he watched his bar engulfed in flames, without uttering a word.
Larry leaned forward and grabbed Kennedy, shouting, "Get out of the way! It's dangerous standing there..."
Kennedy obediently let Larry pull him to hide behind the car, squatting down next to a bewildered Mr. Ford, but he still didn't say a word, his eyes gleaming coldly.
.
Fifteen minutes later, fire trucks, journalists, and police officers arrived at the scene.
Mr. Kennedy was escorted by bodyguards into his carriage and refused to be interviewed by reporters.
Larry and Henry Ford were asked by the police to remain as witnesses and await further instructions; William Boeing, Mr. K, and the crowd of onlookers stood on tiptoe across the street from the police cordon to watch.
Henry Ford, still shaken, kept asking Larry,
"...That reporter just said I hit Senator Patrick Kennedy from Massachusetts?"
Larry nodded and said casually, "I must say, you hit the bullseye pretty well!"
Henry Ford nearly burst into tears, clutching his head with a worried expression. "I've fucking messed up!! Damn it, it's all that kid's fault for encouraging me..." Larry patted him reassuringly, thinking that it was too late to say anything now, and it was up to the police to handle it.
Fortunately, they also lacked experience in handling car accidents, and Larry felt that the police should enforce the law as a civil dispute.
Thinking of this, Larry looked up at Mr. Kennedy's carriage.
A group of reporters surrounded Mr. Kennedy's carriage, bombarding it with questions. However, a circle of police officers stood around the carriage, preventing the reporters from directly interviewing the senator. Instead, they could only chatter loudly from five yards away from the carriage.
"Senator, is this an assassination attempt targeting you?"
"Mr. Kennedy, I am a reporter from The Boston Globe. Can you answer a few questions?"
……
The carriage remained silent throughout. Kennedy and his bodyguards stayed inside, and the coachman even stood beside the two horses, gripping the reins tightly, as if afraid that the large number of people would frighten the horses.
At this moment, a tall police officer parted the reporters, knocked on the door, boarded Mr. Kennedy's carriage, and whispered for a while.
The police chief then stepped down from the carriage and solemnly announced to the reporters: This was a gas explosion. No one was injured in this incident. The police will close the case here. We also hope that the reporters will stop harassing the senator!
After a brief pause following the news, the reporters resumed their chaotic questioning of the police chief.
Some people even tried to rush onto the carriage to continue interviewing the senator.
But all of these requests were rejected.
Mr. Kennedy's carriage slowly drove out of the block and disappeared from sight.
Henry Ford looked bewildered and turned to Larry, asking, "Why did he leave? What are we going to do? My car is still impounded by the police."
Larry shook his head to indicate that he didn't know either.
However, in his heart, Larry knew that this matter was not simple at all.
When the explosion occurred, Larry did not see any fear or surprise on Mr. Kennedy's face.
Considering how quickly Mr. Kennedy rushed out of the bar, Larry concluded that he was mentally prepared for the explosion that would follow.
Mr. K said that Patrick Kennedy downplayed the severity of Logan's father's actions; now, Larry thinks that Mr. Kennedy will also adopt a similar low-key approach in this bombing incident.
Sigh, I witnessed an assassination a few days ago, and today it's an explosion...
Getting involved in these things always made Larry feel upset.
Just then, a policeman in ordinary uniform walked over, first checked their identities, and then said to them,
"The senator has something to say to you. A carriage will come to pick you up in a moment."
Larry frowned and asked, "Can I refuse this invitation?"
The police officer gave Larry a cold look, shook his head, and said, "No way!"
