Who would study psychology if they didn't have some kind of problem?
Chapter 6 Depression?
Chapter 6 Depression?
Although mental health counselors have an intervention function, most counselors are rarely willing to take on mental illnesses that have been diagnosed as "symptoms".
They prefer to take on visitors who are simply experiencing sub-optimal mental health, psychological abnormalities, mental disorders, or are simply trapped in certain abnormal states of mind.
It's easy to make money with little work.
Moreover, although depression is very common now, few people know that it is a condition that can also be harmful to therapists. If a therapist doesn't handle it well, it can end their career.
Then Bald Yang continued to shake his head and said, "That's not all. This client's enthusiasm for counseling is actually not very high. He was always brought to counseling by his parents. Therefore, he would change counselors after every few sessions, and there was basically no possibility of him becoming a regular client."
Upon hearing this, the thick-haired assistant showed an even more understanding expression.
This is another point to consider for counselors—
A "good" client case should involve a relatively clear diagnosis, thorough communication with the therapist, and the intention and determination to undergo long-term therapy to overcome the symptoms.
Among these aspects, "clearly understanding the symptoms" and "effective communication" are part of the counselor's job, requiring them to analyze the client and establish a good therapeutic relationship. However, the part about "the determination to accept treatment" is entirely the client's responsibility. Out of professional ethics, the counselor should not interfere with the client's own decision.
Clients who are determined to receive treatment will purchase long-term treatment courses, have regular consultations, and make regular payments.
Visitors who lack the determination to accept treatment will naturally not pay regularly.
Experienced counselors don't want to take on clients who don't have a strong desire for counseling.
What's more, even if we manage to get help, there will be considerable trouble following up with depression!
“This case was transferred from another counseling center. Many veteran counselors couldn’t handle it, so I was even less inclined to take it on.” Bald Yang shrugged. “I just passed it on to someone else.”
The assistant with thick hair nodded, then continued the conversation: "So, who do you plan to transfer this case to? The supervisor probably wouldn't take it, right?"
If the senior consultant doesn't want to take the job, then the supervisor who is one level above the senior consultant naturally doesn't want to take it either.
Bald Yang seemed to have a plan in mind all along. He lowered his voice and asked, "What do you think of... this new guy?"
Looking in the direction the bald-headed Yang was pointing, the thick-haired assistant was horrified. Wasn't this just shifting the blame?
This isn't just a typical attempt to shift blame.
He instinctively retorted, "Teacher Yang, this is depression! This new guy is just a counseling assistant, isn't he? Besides, I heard the boss mention the other day... he was doing his master's at Jiangdu University, but he had an accident during his internship? That's why he came here..."
Bald Yang didn't care: "It's not like he's going to intervene long-term. This case is probably just coming to us once. What could possibly go wrong? I've seen his file. He has a Level 3 qualification certificate and has a considerable amount of consultation experience. He's a professional in this field."
The assistant with thick hair seemed to still have doubts: "Shouldn't we consult the boss first, or at least ask the supervisor for their opinion?"
Bald Yang waved his hand unhappily: "That's why I came early today, I'm here to see them!"
This statement seems quite convincing.
But the assistant with thick hair hesitated and flipped through the schedule in her hand: "But this visitor's appointment time is very early, even earlier than the boss and supervisor's usual arrival time... Why don't you do this consultation yourself today?"
This consulting assistant is a bit too honest. Isn't Bald Yang just trying to avoid this "one-time" case, which is why he wants to pass it on to Nan Zhuren?
But before he could answer, a loud "bang" suddenly rang out a few steps away.
"I'll do it!"
The noise and the high-pitched shout startled Bald Yang.
Was this new assistant eavesdropping the whole time? And now he's talking so loudly to this veteran consultant?
Upon realizing what was happening, Bald Yang immediately adopted an angry posture, with even the sparse hair on his head standing on end, resembling a vulture poised to pounce.
However, the next second, Bald Yang saw Nan Zhuren's wide eyes.
The young man's eyes were dark from staying up all night, filled with tired blood vessels, yet they shone with an excited light;
Even someone without any facial expression analysis skills could clearly discern two words from that light: greed and hunger.
Like a lion that has been starving for three days and three nights.
The middle-aged counselor suddenly started hallucinating, thinking of several mental patients he had previously treated, and his hair, which had been standing on end, suddenly went limp.
"Xiao Nan, why are you shouting so loudly?"
"Teacher Yang." Nan Zhuren stepped forward quickly, overturning the chair she had knocked over because she stood up too fast. "I'd like to take over this referral of visitor!"
Bald Yang was startled, then overjoyed.
Before he could react, his assistant behind him called out first:
"This is depression!"
The thick-haired assistant was clearly aware of the implications, and he was surprised by Nan Zhuren's courage in rushing to take the blame.
He should have been on Bald Yang's side, but he couldn't help but remind him: "It's a confirmed case of depression!"
Bald Yang's originally upturned lips have also fallen down, which is indeed a rather dangerous case.
But when he thought of the receptionist's "Lu Jia" and "Xiao Jia," and the low-risk description in the file, a very professional smile appeared on Bald Yang's face again.
“It’s alright, it’s not like we’re doing formal intervention treatment. It’s unlikely that this client will stay. I guess this is the only consultation we’ll do.” Bald Yang waved his hand magnanimously. “Teacher Xiao Nan is going to develop in the direction of a counselor, right? This kind of small case is a good opportunity to practice and accumulate consultation hours. It’s quite suitable.”
"—After all, this was Ms. Konan's own request and insistence, right?"
Looking at Bald Yang's expression, Nan Zhuren received a tremendous amount of information in that instant.
This is an opportunity, not just a simple opportunity to get a visitor.
He quickly put on a smile and said, "Yes, I asked for it, and I insisted."
The assistant with thick hair looked at the bald Yang, then at Nan Zhuren, and muttered to himself with a troubled expression, "How am I going to explain this to the boss and supervisor?"
