Warhammer 40: Doom

Chapter 363 Worth the Price
The three men, including Doom, descended the steps.
The aftershocks of the plasma reactor explosion had not yet dissipated, and billowing smoke and dust stained the road ahead a murky mess.
Deprived of energy supply, the underground of the nest city fell into dead silence, with only the rustling of crawling echoing in the darkness.
The three were no ordinary people; their vision was unaffected by the darkness, and they strode down the stairs.
Harlan's gaze swept over Doom's armor, and he couldn't help but ask, "Where did you get this armor?"
He noticed that the armor Doum was wearing had a unique style, unlike Nur's craftsmanship. The material and casting method were unknown, so he couldn't help but ask questions out of curiosity.
"The ancient saints and emperors joined forces to forge and melt down the fragments of the Star God." Doom raised his arm, and the retractable blade sprang out with a "sizzle," its cold light slicing through the darkness.
"Good stuff." Harlan's eyes flashed with envy. "Unfortunately, it's something you can only come across once in a lifetime."
A superior set of power armor is a warrior's second life—especially when it is powerful enough.
"I also deserve some credit." A string of text appeared on the helmet visor. Void Dragon didn't speak, but there was a hint of resentment in the text.
Doom ignored Him and chatted with Harlan as they walked deeper into the hive, searching for their destination.
The underground of the city is mostly filled with pipes and industrial areas, and the air is filled with the smell of rust and decay. Various power engines continuously dissipate heat, resulting in a hot and humid climate.
Generally, the height and depth of the nest are almost the same, and the cross-section shows a rhombus shape, divided into two triangles by the horizon.
The upper nests were inhabited by nobles and the ruling class, who enjoyed sunshine and fresh air, while the lower nests were shrouded in darkness and inhabited mostly by commoners and gang members.
Lady Clara's invasion turned the inhabitants of Hive City into "the Lost Ones." Without orders, they could only wander aimlessly throughout Hive City.
As the ground collapsed, Lady Clara entered the bottom nest, and the zombie-like inhabitants suddenly became active.
They emerged from the shadows, their expressions blank and lifeless, following Lady Clara's orders to provide support and risk their lives to hold off the human army.
“These humans are beyond saving,” the Void Dragon suddenly spoke. “Their souls are about to perish, leaving behind empty bodies.”
“That’s not bad either,” He said sarcastically, the imagery of his words appearing on his glasses: “Strip their frontal lobes and you’ll get a ton of obedient ants.”
"By the way, within the human empire established by the Emperor, they are affectionately called 'slave laborers,' cheap and efficient labor."
The Void Dragon sneered, regarding all life as ants, and mercilessly belittling the Empire and the Emperor, clearly enjoying himself.
Doom remained silent, too lazy to refute the irrefutable facts, and unwilling to pay attention to the Star God, nor to satisfy His desire to vent His anger.
Imprisoned by the Emperor for 30,000 years, the Void Dragon despised the empire established by the Emperor and enjoyed belittling and scorning the achievements of the Lord of Mankind.
The Star God naturally knew that without the rise of the Emperor, the human race would sink into oblivion in the galaxy and head towards a future of destruction.
But He didn't care about any of that; He simply wanted to mock the Emperor and, incidentally, the human race.
Seeing that Doom remained silent, the Void Dragon, realizing it had gotten itself into trouble, also fell silent and stopped its sarcastic remarks.
He actually knows the limits very well, repeatedly teetering on the edge of tolerance, saying some harmless nonsense, but never crossing the line.
"Lady Kra has arrived." As the AI of the Archon's armor, the Void Dragon was quite dutiful, outlining the alien's silhouette in the dark smoke.
Lady Nine-Headed Kra was lurking in the shadows at the end of the descending stairs, preparing to ambush the humans who were going underground.
"How interesting." The Void Dragon switched to a 3D image, connecting Lady Nine-Headed Kra to clearly show the formation of three triangular squads.
"They are learning from you, and although they are still clumsy, it is much better than fighting alone."
Doom signaled the squad to stop, his gaze extending to the edge of the sinkhole, where squads of Imperial Guards and Doomsday Warriors were landing using jetpacks.
They were the vanguard, extending the battle line to the lower nest to wipe out the retreating Lady Clara.
Sure enough, as the vanguard landed, a large number of anti-gravity drones poured in from the sinkhole and began to scan the terrain.
Standing at the top of the steps, Doom gestured that there were nine enemies, signaling Harlan and Obelisk to be aware of their surroundings as they were about to encounter them.
Harlan nodded slightly, carefully taking the Smart Gun from his waist. Obelisk's shoulder cannon, in alert mode, pointed towards the dark, dust-shrouded distance. He then sheathed his spear and raised a massive, custom-made electromagnetic sniper rifle. A soldier's fundamental discipline: no matter how powerful Doom was, they remained relentlessly vigilant, giving their all against the enemy.
“Nine-headed Lady Kra, three-three distribution.” Obelisk half-squatted on the ground, the projection of the scope onto the crimson lens: “The first firing right is mine.”
After saying that, he took a deep breath, held it, and pulled the trigger on the alien in the scope!
Biu~
It has a silencer half the length of a gun, which perfectly covers the sound of the bullets being fired. The bullets are accelerated electromagnetically to twenty times the speed of sound, leaving a streak of azure light in the air.
Within Lady Kra's reaction time, Obelisk fired three shots in quick succession, aiming and firing in one smooth motion, with the bullets leaving the barrel almost simultaneously.
Harlan was equally impressive. The moment the sniper rifle fired, he pulled the trigger of his smart gun and fired three Soul-Destroying bullets at random.
Lady Clara's brains splattered as she was ambushed by the three heads!
A yellowish-white substance burst forth; the projectile, traveling at twenty times the speed of sound, instantly pierced the skull, its impact shattering the brain.
The three aliens were bewildered and lost. Suddenly, their bodies jolted, and their heads exploded.
The intelligent bullets follow the law of causality, appearing directly inside the target's brain. The brain explodes as the psychic energy and the annihilation bullet collide.
The remaining Mrs. Clara realized what was happening.
The moment his companion was hit, the bat spread its wings and took off, its psionic senses radiating out, and it discovered two humans hiding at the top of the stairs.
They were slightly puzzled as to why there was a dark, empty hole in front of the humans.
"Eliminate them." Without much thought, Lady Clara raised her flintlock pistol and fired, attempting to eliminate the two-man squad before human reinforcements arrived.
Even more puzzling things happened: the bright, dazzling subspace fragments that were ejected disappeared during their flight.
Without much thought, Mrs. Clara brought her fingers together, unfurled a high-frequency vibrating blade, and charged forward with a roar.
Two humans, without any heavy firepower or soulless machines by their side, would be lambs to the slaughter once their sneak attack was exposed.
Lady Clara couldn't wait to chew on the human warrior's psionic energy, tearing it apart bit by bit and savoring it slowly.
Bat wings parted the air, and its powerful body broke through supersonic speed, rushing to the humans almost instantly before it saw that there were three humans in front of it.
A person with an abnormally large physique, wearing dark green power armor, stood there like a statue, his gaze unwavering.
The high-frequency vibrating blade distorted space, and the downward slash was incredibly fast. Lady Clara believed that she had delivered a perfect strike that combined skill and power, a strike that no human could possibly dodge.
The target did not dodge. Under its horrified gaze, the human raised its right arm, "gently" touched its own arm, and then "gently" and irresistibly broke its arm.
Mrs. Clara could sense it, but she couldn't react or make a move. She tried to open her fingers to stop the vibrating blade, but could only watch helplessly as the vibrating blade returned and sliced towards her terrified face.
Then I felt myself lose sight, and after I came to my senses, everything went black, and I was unable to do anything.
It's dead.
Doom effortlessly killed Lady Kra, and his retractable blade shot out from his left arm, piercing through another alien.
With a corpse in each hand, he spread his broad arms and suddenly brought them back with a powerful slam, crushing the last Lady Clara into a meat patty!
Blood mingled with minced flesh, splattering everywhere and staining the consul's armor crimson.
"Awesome!" the Void Dragon roared with a bloodthirsty glint. "This exhilarating and sharp experience made my trip worthwhile; it was definitely worth the price of admission."
"Keep going." Ignoring the bloodthirsty audience, Doom tossed the leather bag aside and continued descending the stairs.
“From now on, when you encounter my brothers, you’ll beat them up like this.” The Star God seemed very excited, his tone full of joy and eagerness: “I can’t wait!”
Doom thought He was mentally unstable, constantly thinking about killing his brother, which was completely unreasonable.
The main force entered the sinkhole, attracting Lady Kra's attention. In addition, the small team was on the edge of the battlefield and did not encounter any other Lady Kra except for a few defenders.
The squad had a clear objective. Doom used the Archon's Armor to gain insight into powers and advanced rapidly down the maze-like Lower Nest.
"This is it." He casually tossed aside the alien corpse in his hand, took a few steps forward, and stroked the gilded gate covered with relief carvings with his blood-stained gauntlets, a look of joy on his face.
Mrs. Clara did not resort to desperate measures and destroy the Gla family's treasures.
