Warhammer 40: Doom

Chapter 36 No one survived

Chapter 36 No one survived
"My lord."

Golden light spilled across the floor, and the Emperor's radiance illuminated every corner of the room. The Emperor, clad in a golden power armor called "True One Armor," moved with incredible lightness as he slowly entered the room.

The Imperial Guards, armed with their long spears and holding high their banners, marched in orderly ranks, following their masters into the blood-soaked human modification laboratory.

The genetic engineers shouted in unison, their excitement and reverence beyond words, yet they looked ashamed and remained silent with their heads bowed.

They have failed the mission entrusted to them by the emperor, a glorious duty. Now that they have made no progress whatsoever, they are naturally ashamed and have nowhere to hide, unable to face the emperor.

Inherited from the 21st Gene Primarch, the genetic seed of the Emperor's offspring has been implanted at a much slower pace than other legions, or even at all.

To date, not a single soldier has been successfully transformed; all the test subjects died on the operating table, and none have been transformed into the "Angels of Death" that the Emperor needed.

The emperor was hidden in the radiance, his gaze almost tangible as he surveyed the mess in the laboratory, examining the neatly arranged operating tables, the clumps of burnt ashes, and the charred marks on the operating tables.

Genome 21!
His genetic seed once again presented a difficult problem. This was not the first time the Emperor himself had come for him; despite being overwhelmed with affairs of state, he still personally visited the laboratory.

When the Emperor last came, the genetic material of the original entity had caused problems in cultivating the gene seed.

Unlike his brothers, Primarch 21's gene seed was not ugly and twisted in appearance, with irregularly growing tentacles and indelible traces of the subspace.

Its exterior is crystal clear, like pure and flawless blood-red amber, enclosing a core the size of a walnut, and the whole thing is only the size of an egg.

Such a seamless existence leaves genetic engineers helpless, unable to extract substances from the genetic seed to cultivate the superhuman organs they need.

After countless failures and the investment of vast resources, the emperor himself finally came to resolve the doubts of the experimenters.

Perhaps it's a subspace demigod trait, or perhaps it's an acquired mutation; the gene seed provided by Number Twenty-One doesn't require external cultivation organs.

After the gene seed is implanted in the subject's chest cavity, it germinates and grows.

In just seven Terra days, the gene seed implanted in the recipient's body will grow superhuman organs on its own, and may even grow other organs whose specific functions are unknown.

Naturally grown superhuman organs do not cause rejection reactions in test subjects. While their performance is greatly enhanced, the organs and receptors are perfectly coordinated, as if they were a perfect, innate whole.

This discovery thrilled the engineers, as it would not only greatly shorten the modification cycle of the Death Angel but also significantly improve its safety.

Compared to other legions, the genetically modified warriors who inherited Primarch 21 are taller, faster, and stronger.

They will become the sword of humanity's lord in future expeditions, destroying humanity's enemies and restoring humanity's glory!

If this is true, the emperor would not need to come again. The implantation project has encountered unprecedented challenges, all subjects have died, and the success rate remains zero to this day.

Other legions are making intensive preparations and have initially formed combat capabilities, while the Twenty-first Legion has no survivors to date, having successfully walked off the operating table.

"Gene sorcerer, report what you know." The Imperial Guard stepped forward. As the Emperor's most loyal servants, they were responsible for conveying all of the Emperor's words.

The emperor's voice flowed from the golden-armored warrior, melodious as poetry, sweeping away the gloom in the laboratory and radiating an inspiring power.

"My lord." The gene sorcerer rose and slowly left the blood-stained operating table, his auxiliary arm moving slowly behind his back.

The sorcerer lamented: "The 32134th subject, like all the previous subjects, had perfectly developed organs. Two weeks after the gene seed was implanted, he suffered from unexplained bleeding all over his body and eventually burned to ashes."

“My master, please look here. This is the only surviving corpse.” The warlock moved slowly to a freezer.

The body of a three-meter-tall giant lay in the freezer.

He was 3 meters tall when naked, with bulging muscles in his limbs and torso, exuding explosive power. His body was like cast iron, and even though he had been dead for a long time, his corpse still emanated a savage and violent aura.

A robust body lies lifeless in a cold refrigerator, a truly regrettable sight.

"My lord, please look here." Guided by the genetic sorcerer's mechanical arm, the emperor lowered his gaze and saw the gruesome state of the corpse.

The corpse was covered in a dense network of scars—claw marks, knife wounds, bites, axe cuts—almost every type of injury imaginable was etched onto its massive body, a truly horrifying sight. Blood seeped from every part of its body; there wasn't a single unblemished inch of flesh on the giant's body, as if it had been ravaged a thousand times by various instruments of torture.

The deceased did not seem to be a test subject or a new recruit, but rather a warrior who had experienced an endless long battle and died on an extremely dangerous battlefield.

The genetic sorcerer brought over a holographic panel, projecting a three-dimensional image and presenting everything to the Lord of Humanity. The lifelike image recorded the entire process from the implantation of the genetic seed to how the subject died.

A subject lay calmly on the operating table, his limbs bound by several restraint straps. After the technicians implanted a blood-red gene seed into his chest, the dramatic change began.

Medium build, slightly thin body, beginning to develop rapidly.

Over the next week, bone density increases, muscle density surges, skin tolerance improves, and all organs function normally.

All their stats far surpass those of warriors from other legions—higher! Bigger! Faster! Stronger!

As time passed and the physical development of the area leveled out, the soldier in the picture suddenly began to struggle.

His eyes bulged, bloodshot and filled with hatred. He clenched his teeth until they broke, and roared angrily. His limbs were tense, every muscle taut, the restraints creaking. The operating table teetered on the brink of collapse because of his struggles.

Then, those horrible wounds appeared out of nowhere!

Blood kept flowing! Various injuries tore his flesh apart, and the next second, his super-powerful self-healing began to heal the wounds, only to tear them open again and heal them again, in an endless cycle.

Injury, healing, endless pain ravages Superman's body, gradually leaving scars on his skin.

The subject let out a roar, but it wasn't a roar of pain; it was a furious howl filled with hatred that made everyone present tremble.

That anger! That hatred!

The emperor frowned deeply; he had never seen or heard of such anger and hatred from any human being.

Forever and ever! We will never give up!
The Imperial Guard soldiers gripped their guard spears tightly. The hatred conveyed by the projected image was chillingly real.

The staff around covered their ears, trembling. They had witnessed it thousands of times, but they were still shocked by the real fury.

I'm going to kill you all!

His bloodshot eyes were bloodshot red, and his furious roar seemed to ring in our ears. The surging killing intent sent chills down the spines of the Imperial Guards.

What exactly is this?
These are emotions beyond human expression; boundless hatred is nothing short of this, and rage is more than capable of destroying the world!
As hatred and pain intensified, the subjects' bodies gradually collapsed, and after everything calmed down, life was fleeting.

A golden light rose, dispelling the fear in people's hearts and driving away their rage from the laboratory.

The emperor walked silently to the refrigerator, his eyes devoid of sorrow or joy. He placed his hand on the refrigerator, sensing the lingering soul of the corpse, trying to discern the source of that overwhelming rage.

His arm trembled slightly, a brief tremor that went unnoticed by the Imperial Guards and the laboratory staff.

The Emperor withdrew his arm but gently clenched his fist. A wave of sorrow welled up from the depths of his heart, and he sighed. He lamented that a human had truly died, his soul scattered and utterly annihilated in the real universe and the warp.

Only he knew that the person on the operating table had his soul completely annihilated, burned to ashes by the flames of rage.

"The next test subject," the Imperial Guard spoke again, representing the Emperor's will: "I will work with you to explore the unknown."

The emperor sat on his throne in the hall, his heart filled with uncontrollable rage. He wanted to see who had utterly destroyed the human soul!
The genetic sorcerer bowed, and a royal guard followed him, bringing the next test subject here.

(If you have any recommendation votes, please give them a little, thank you!)

Um, I slightly revised yesterday's three chapters. The reading flow and logic are much smoother now. Those who are interested can go back and take a look.

I'll only update more if I can maintain quality. I felt yesterday's three chapters weren't well written and didn't express my thoughts at all.

Starting today, I'll start watching Doum's army, check out Old Man Huang, and build up some resources, otherwise how can we launch a major expedition?
