Warhammer 40: Doom

Chapter 300 Death Watch

Chapter 300 Death Watch
The mummified corpse sat leaning against the wall in the aisle, not wearing a helmet, its dried head bowed, its body covered in thick dust, indicating that it had been dead for a long time.

The power armor worn by the Space Marines was heavily rusted, and even the sturdy ceramic steel could not withstand the erosion of time, showing its fragility and weakness.

“He comes from the future.” Doom spoke slowly, his voice deep, as he reached out and brushed away the thick dust from the power armor’s shoulder armor. “In fact, this warship also comes from the future.”

"Subspace time is not fixed. During the Battle of Randan, I arrived in the Morse system earlier than planned, which allowed me to provide timely assistance to the First Legion."

"Ruth also said that he encountered a warship he had never seen before in the warp, which was later identified as a Thirteenth Legion warship."

As he spoke, the shoulder armor finally revealed itself, a winged sword emblem, sharp yet exuding nobility and majesty.

“There’s no record of it.” La shook his head, flipping through the legion’s records to confirm that there was no similar mark.

The future was too far away, and Doom never thought of deriving any information about the future from a Space Marine: "Don't worry about it, it's some legion from the future."

He placed his hand across the mummified corpse's left shoulder armor, feeling the uneven texture, and quickly brushed away the dust.

The shoulder armor is black with a bright metal outline. The shoulder armor is engraved with text reliefs, with a Roman numeral "I" in the middle and a faded skull carving in the middle of the "I".

Doom's gaze swept back and forth, comparing the two different markings, and found that they were completely different and had no cultural connection.

He had a question in his mind: two different insignia on one soldier conveyed a complex message.

In the existing legions, Space Marines have the legion insignia painted on their left shoulder to indicate which legion they belong to, and the main insignia of the company or battalion printed on their right shoulder, along with the specific company mark, to form a specific identity identifier.

It embodies the inheritance of the legion's culture, and there is a certain connection between the symbols. The current situation would never happen.

The two different insignia indicate that this Space Marine served in two different Legions, and that both Legions recognized his identity.

Will the legions of the future get along this harmoniously?
Doom stroked his chin, unable to imagine a scene of brotherly affection and respect. Putting aside others, Ruth's barbarity was hard to accept.

He casually handed the servo skull to Ta Rasha, took a deep breath, and blew it towards the corpse.

When the dust settled, the rusted power armor was fully revealed, and everyone could see the complete appearance of the dead warrior.

This Space Marine of unknown identity had many deep and shallow wounds on his power sword, but only one fatal wound.

Three claw marks ran down from his neck, ripped open his chest, tore apart his bone plates, pulled out his internal organs, and finally severed the Space Marine's hip bone, causing him to lose his balance, fall, and die from internal organ failure.

Doom ran his hand over the corpse's neck, stroking the wound as he felt the sharp claw marks left by the attack.

Swiftly and without hesitation, he finished off the Space Marine in an instant and then left.

His extraordinary mind immediately created a model, using the existing information to construct what had happened inside the warship.

Space Marines clashed, causing their ships to fall and become lost in the cold universe. The desiccated corpses in front of them boarded the ships with a mission, but clashed with the aliens who had gotten there first, and ultimately died at the hands of the aliens.

For unknown reasons, the warship entered subspace and traveled through time to the present.

Having roughly grasped the gist of the matter, Doom slowly rose and exclaimed, "The warp is truly an amazing place."

He smiled and said to his genetic offspring, "We, living in the present, can actually touch the future and glimpse a corner of the elusive future."

“The Primarch.” Having confirmed the spaceship was from the future, John said with great interest, “If this ship is from the future, wouldn’t it be incredibly advanced?”

Before Doom's smile had faded, John's amusement only intensified it, and he burst into laughter.

He patted John's shoulder and said with a smile, "Normally, there's nothing wrong with your thinking, but reality is absurd."

"In our minds, technology is always developing, constantly updating and iterating, and the future will always be better than the present."

“It’s a pity,” Doom shook his head, a hint of regret in his eyes: “Technology may experience large-scale gaps due to certain reasons, which may lead to the future being inferior to the present.”

From the moment he entered the warship, Doom observed its interior and found no advanced design; in some aspects, it was even inferior to the current Imperial warships.

John raised his hand to scratch his head, but bumped into his helmet. To cover his embarrassment, he asked again, "So what caused the technological gap in the future?"

This question brought the joyful atmosphere to an abrupt halt; the father of genetics stopped laughing and adopted a serious expression.

Doom's smile faded, his hand slid down John's shoulder, and a thoughtful look appeared on his handsome face. He said in a low voice, "Good question."

In the present galaxy, the human empire rises like the morning sun from the horizon of decline.

Under the leadership of the emperor, humanity rediscovered technology, used reason to resist the four gods, and established an unprecedented unified regime.

No matter how you look at it, the rise of the human race is inevitable, and dominating the galaxy is only a matter of time. So why?

In a future that seems so bright, how could there be such a large-scale technological gap, with church-like structures on the spaceship?

Doom disliked churches, seeing them as symbols of human ignorance, while spaceships were synonymous with ambition and adventurous exploration.

Why would two completely opposing entities become entangled?
“Don’t try to see into the future,” he sighed, unable to answer John’s question, but offered a line of thought: “The future is uncertain, so the right thing to do is to do our best in the present and strive for a better future.”

Silence fell over the wrecked ship; the heavy topic, which the Primarch could not answer, weighed down the air so much that it dared not move.

Drop~
Just then, an electronic mechanical voice broke the deathly silence, drawing the attention of the superhuman warriors.

Thanks to Ta Rasha's efforts, the damaged servo skull was restarted, and the remaining single eye emitted a red glow in its socket.

As the machine restarted, the anti-gravity system came online, and the servo skull stumbled and fell, taking off from the palm of the hand.

"Search...search..."

The skull's jaw opens and closes, emitting a cold, hoarse sound from its built-in sound array system, beginning its information retrieval.

After a few seconds, it remained suspended in the air, no longer moving, and a green light was projected from its spine and tail.

This is a posture of waiting for permission. The server skull needs to confirm permission before it can proceed with the next step of communication.

The crowd stood frozen in place, looking around at the servo skull.

Of everyone present, aside from the corpse on the ground, who has the authority to restart the server skull?

However, the unknown warrior had been dead for an unknown period of time, and his body had decomposed into a mummy.

"Never give up hope." Doom said casually, as an identification code popped out of his arm armor and was placed under the servo skull.

"Beep beep~" The skull scanning beam swept across, remained silent for a long time, then flashed red, indicating that the identification code was invalid.

He was not discouraged; he gestured for his offspring to come forward and show the skull the identification code.

One by one, as time went on, a strange atmosphere filled the squad, with the soldiers staring at the servo skulls with disdain.

They believed that their skulls were damaged and that they could not possibly disappear from the imperial records and vanish into obscurity in the long river of history.

Until the second to last person, John Wick, who stepped forward nonchalantly and showed his identification code.

"Drip~"

The scanning prompts continued, but the soldiers were unenthusiastic. The same sound appeared ten times, but none of them were successful.

"Ding~"

An unusual sound rang out, striking the Doomsday Warriors' nerves. They reacted with incredible speed, staring intently at John.

Before they could even launch an attack, the servo skull's mechanical voice sounded again: "Access confirmed... Destroyer, John Wick."

"Retrieving mission records..."

Under the murderous gazes of his brothers, John granted permission to allow the servo skull to begin its work, albeit haltingly.

They couldn't understand why they couldn't do it, while John, this brute, could activate the servo skull.

While waiting for the server to retrieve the skull data, Doom said to John with pity, "Your future may be fraught with difficulties."

Everyone then realized why the original host had shown pity, looking down at the corpse leaning against the wall on the ground and then back at the brothers.

John's brother belongs to the Legion, but his personal identification code can be verified through the server skull, indicating that John has left the Legion.

The fate of being separated from one's brothers is indeed somewhat tragic.

“Whatever.” John shrugged, nonchalantly speaking, his tone as relaxed as ever, showing no concern for his future.

Just then, the servo skull flew in front of him and began reporting: "Mission log retrieval successful: Death Watch, ordered to retrieve [record deleted], encountered gene stealers, resulting in total annihilation."
