Warhammer 40: Doom
Chapter 30 Confrontation with God
Chapter 30 Confrontation with God
What King Norwick heard was the hoarse cry of a crow, like the coughing of someone with phlegm stuck in their throat. The sound carried a disdainful air of looking down on everything, yet it also conveyed the most sincere invitation.
“It is not that I actively approached the so-called ‘gods’; I have no interest in you or any of you. It is that your hands have reached too far and touched my son.”
The real deal has appeared!
Norwick raised an eyebrow. He hadn't expected that his reasoning would actually touch upon a deep secret and bring to light the existence of "God".
However, he did not believe that the other party was a god, but only a special existence, or a powerful psychic who was beyond human comprehension.
"Your son?" The voice coughed and gasped like a patient with severe tuberculosis, mocking Norwick as it spoke: "He is the son of God. How dare you, a mere mortal, presume to presume upon him?"
"Oh?" Novick was intrigued. The "god" opposite him seemed unconcerned about revealing information, which gave him a lot of information: "Then where is his 'god' father?"
As for the owner behind the book, Norwick didn't believe a single word of what he revealed.
Doom was definitely not the son of God; he was certain of this in his heart, and the "god" before him was the most powerful proof.
If there truly is a God, and He is omnipresent, then anything that touches His mind will make Him aware and appear before the observer. Therefore, Doom's father should be coming to him.
"Hmm! That's interesting." The talking book circled Norwick, making an approving sound: "Your mind is sharp, and you're good at distinguishing truth from falsehood."
"I like smart people, and I even reward them, for example, by answering some questions."
The books spun and flew higher and higher, looking down on Norwich with an air of superior arrogance.
“But I have no interest in asking questions.” Norwick smiled slightly, calmly rejecting its suggestion without the slightest hesitation.
"You don't want the truth to be revealed?" the book asked, puzzled. King Norwick's answer was unexpected.
“I’m already close to the truth, I don’t need you, some unknown person, to enlighten me.”
“But that’s not all.” The voice, sounding like it was from severe tuberculosis, was still enticing, constantly piquing Norwick’s curiosity.
"I don't need to know that much," Norwick said nonchalantly. What truth? What answers?
He wanted to know who his son's enemy was, and he already had the answer.
The more you know, the easier it is to be misled. What many people believe to be the truth may simply be what those lurking in the shadows want you to see.
Knowing when to stop can actually help you maintain a clear mind.
"I'm just a father who wants to protect his son, that's all. I don't want to know about your messy gods."
The pages suddenly rippled open with a sneer: "A father who protects his child? You're too good at putting on a show!"
"You raised him and instilled your ideas in him, but you only wanted to use him to fulfill the long-cherished wish of your clan!"
Norwick burst into laughter: "Ha! Now I believe you're a god—the god of comedy!"
He glanced disdainfully at the book and readily admitted his plan: "You're right, I do have that idea."
"God?" he suddenly called out to the books fluttering in the air, with a hint of disdain: "Where do you see Doom's achievements?"
"On this planet? Or in the vast and boundless sea of stars?"
"He is a whale stranded in the harbor, destined to return to the sea when the tide of fate comes in. We are insignificant beings around him, passengers on his back as he swims to the sea."
"Isn't he my son?"
Norwick responded to that scorn with an undeniable rebuttal: "He learned my thoughts and will, embraced the expectations I gave him, absorbed everything I taught, embarked on the path I planned, inherited me and surpassed me."
"Dum. Isn't he my son?"
"Of course not!" The voice suddenly tightened, and the book floated to the desk. On the cover appeared a huge eye with nine pupils, scrutinizing him.
"There is no blood relation between you; you are just an unexpected passerby in his life!"
"Is the so-called God really this superficial?"
Norwick shook his head in disappointment, his disdainful gaze meeting the one-eyed man's: "Bloodlines fade with time, but the legacy etched deep within the soul will never fade."
"I know!" Novick slapped his forehead, a belated realization dawning on his face.
Suddenly, He looked seriously at the floating book, and His pitying gaze made Him inexplicably uneasy: "You have no children, you can't understand the longing in your heart, of course you don't know these things."
…………
The air fell into a deathly silence; the books flying in the air even fell for a moment before regaining their shape.
In the subspace, Tzeentch's ever-changing form paused for a moment so subtle as to be almost imperceptible, and the light reflected in the crystal labyrinth paused briefly.
The god of change, the master of intrigue, and the god of wisdom is mocked by a mere mortal who says He knows nothing of fatherly love. The single eye on the cover suddenly snaps open in fury: "Mortal! Put away the filthy emotions in your eyes!"
The book roared and cursed, raising its distorted tone: "I am the god of all changes! I am the god of wisdom! I know all destinies, I know all secrets."
At this moment, Tzeentch's body underwent a drastic change; he was in a bad mood, and his voice emanated from the books:
"I am the all-knowing God, the Lord who knows everything."
“Yes! That’s right!” King Norwick sneered, showing no sign of backing down, and said to the owner behind the book, “Precisely because you are omniscient, you cannot understand the father’s heartfelt expectations for his son’s future!”
Norwick shook his head violently, the pity in his eyes not fading but becoming even more profound: "Omniscience is a curse; it makes you know everything, but it also makes you infinitely empty."
"A being who claims to be 'God'? If you are omniscient, do you even know what you want?"
"Of course I know!" The twisted book trembled wildly, convulsing in mid-air and emitting a mad, ear-piercing scream.
"No, you don't know!" King Norwick suddenly stood up and looked up.
Although the book was suspended high above, his gaze carried a condescending sense of oppression, and the pity in his eyes was almost tangible: "For a pitiful being who calls himself 'God,' everything is predetermined and everything is as it should be."
"Oh!"
Suddenly, the One-Eyed Book burst forth with a burst of blue flames, burning silently.
This time, "God" did not answer him.
The falling ashes formed a string of characters on the table: "King Norwick! We have a long road ahead of us."
Inside the crystal labyrinth, the ever-changing demon lords dared not make a sound, for fear that their master would tear them apart alive.
Just now, Tzeentch inexplicably flew into a rage and smashed a crystal containing extinct magic into pieces.
Norwick was absolutely right. In the infinitely long span of time, the all-knowing Tzeentch was indeed empty. His infinitely changing form was a direct reflection of his ignorance of what outcome he desired.
To be exposed by an incredibly lowly mortal was more painful for Tzeentch than to be bitten by Nurgle.
“Norwick!” A phantom appeared in Tzeentch’s hand, a real-world projection of Norwick, his body filled with rage in all his eyes: “There’s only one thing you’re wrong about.”
"When Doom arrived in the Warp, his unpredictable fate was not determined by the gods, and I am very much looking forward to seeing how far he can go."
With another wave of his hand, Doom appeared in his grasp, simmering mushroom soup. Tzeentch's infinitely mysterious eyes revealed boundless delight: "I eagerly await to see how far you can go."
He extinguished the illusory image in his hand and smiled sinisterly.
"I need to have a talk with the three of them. This man's wisdom is our biggest obstacle!"
Norwick knew nothing about what happened in the warp, nor did he want to know.
He continued his work, connecting Isaac with "God." The so-called God gave Isaac hints, allowing him to foresee Doom's arrival.
Draw another line connecting God and the Warp. Because God has nowhere else to go but the Warp, and can only use Warp energy while in the Warp.
Doom is connected to the Creators because they are the primary relationship, and everything originates from them.
Why would the Warp Gods hint to Isaac and precisely deliver Doom's amniotic sac? It's because they stole Doom from the Creator and wanted to make him their own.
Thus, a thin line appeared between the gods and the creator, with the inscription: hostility.
Having completed all the reasoning, Norwick's face was grim; he felt no joy or satisfaction in uncovering the truth.
He is now fighting alone, with no one to help him.
His son, however, was surrounded by enemies. A pack of hungry wolves wanted to tear him apart and devour him.
I'll post this first; I got a bit carried away while writing this chapter and am a little confused.
I feel the writing isn't very good either; some words and characters aren't used very precisely.
I'll revise it tomorrow morning; that's all for today.
A whole host of worries are keeping me from calming down.
I would also like to thank everyone for their donations, monthly tickets, and recommendation votes. I am truly grateful!
We also hope you will leave comments on your favorite paragraphs!
