Warhammer 40: Doom
Chapter 26 is about the blood sacrifice to the Blood God.
Chapter 26 is about the blood sacrifice to the Blood God.
In the deep subspace, the boundaries of the four gods collided violently, creating waves more dazzling than any previous divine war.
At the last moment, the Chaos Gods tore off their mask of harmony and tricked Doom into uttering the incantation to serve them.
Moreover, they interfered with their other divine brothers, preventing any complete blasphemous syllables from reaching Doom's ears.
"Damn it! I almost succeeded!"
Khorne roared in resentment, for he was just a hair's breadth away from taking Doom into his possession.
At the crucial moment, that damned Xinliezhi interrupted the last syllable, causing Him to fail at the last hurdle.
"Damn it! You almost succeeded!"
The crimson world shattered. Tzeentch disrupted the Blood God's temporary change of heart, casually dispelling the magic at his fingertips, and with a strange laugh, he drifted away.
While the changes in the process pleased Him, Tzeentch mocked Khorne: "The Blood God, who prides himself on being a warrior and prefers direct confrontation, will use cunning. I will reserve a good spot for you in the Crystal Labyrinth."
"And you too!" The enraged Blood God's will manifested as a blood shadow, brandishing a longsword and slashing at the departing Nurgle.
Nurgle's chubby body rolled over, dodging the Blood God's sword light, and returned to his divine realm. His voice came from the horizon: "You're the one who wanted to eat it all by yourself!"
"And you, you bitch!" Khorne roared as another sword fell, "Especially you! Even if I kill Doom, I won't let you touch him!"
Slaanesh's smooth body perfectly dodged the Blood God's attack and returned to His palace: "It was agreed that he belonged to us jointly, and you broke the rules first."
"Get out! All of you get out!" The Blood God's violent roar echoed at the border of the four gods, his fury tearing apart the subspace storm.
Doom was unaware that he had escaped the fate of becoming one of the Four Gods' lackeys through their mutual machinations.
The situation just now was extremely dangerous. Once the incantation was recited, it would mean voluntarily surrendering one's soul and completely binding oneself to the evil god of the subspace.
Fortunately, the warp gods, scheming against each other, greedy and selfish, would not allow other gods to touch the souls they desired, and would rather destroy them than share them.
Is anyone there? Is anyone still here?
After the four chairs disappeared, there was no further movement in the red space. Doom kept calling out from inside, waiting for the right moment to leave.
The mark on his chest felt slightly warm, conveying a mysterious message that he would be able to leave soon.
In the warp, the Blood God remained enraged, his fury never diminishing.
Khorne sensed that His brother had indeed left, and that His brother's gaze was no longer fixed on this place.
He carefully retrieved the blood-red world from the lava, and grinned triumphantly.
Khorne was the god of war, and also a master of strategy.
The moment Doom killed the Greenskin, the boy's sharpness and decisiveness caught Khorne's attention, and the angry echo within it filled him with ecstasy.
Almost without hesitation, Khorne used His authority to “murder” to replicate an echo to support His own plans.
Together with his three brothers, he lured Doom into chaos. The Blood God's deliberate sabotage was perfectly timed, and then they parted ways. He then used his rage to drive away the gods, allowing him to enjoy the spoils alone, out of his brothers' sight.
He even fooled Tzeentch's eyes, using a trick called "switching the prince with a cat" to replace the real world.
The Blood God stirred up a storm, bringing the small world back to His domain. To conceal his purpose, he continuously unleashed his fury to destroy countless demons.
"Hehehe~"
Khorne suppressed his laughter to conceal his smugness. Now, he could finally taste the fruits of victory, the fruits that belonged only to Him.
"Is anyone there? What god are we offering a blood sacrifice to?"
Khorne reinfused his will and returned to the small world, where he heard Doom questioning the void.
"It's the 'Blood Sacrifice to the Blood God' brat."
The sudden sound startled Doom, and when he turned around, he saw the brass throne standing there again.
A voice came from the chair, deep and wild, suppressed yet extremely aggressive: "Doom, I've been watching you for a long time! We don't have much time left."
"You must know, I am the true god! You only need to utter 'Blood Sacrifice to the Blood God,' and I will grant you boundless power! Conquer millions of kingdoms, become an invincible warrior, and forge an eternal legend!"
Doom listened and stared at the skull throne in silence for a long time.
It wasn't a question of whether to accept it, but rather a question of why beings who call themselves "gods" like to use this kind of tactic.
"I reject!"
Without much hesitation, Doom rejected the offer of the throne.
"Why?" The voice from the throne was tinged with surprise and urgency: "Just now, you were almost about to utter the incantation to serve the gods!"
"Why are you refusing now? Is it because you feel I can't give you what I promised?"
“No, that’s not it.” Doom shook his head, a frank smile appearing on his handsome face, with no intention of hiding anything: “Actually, I wasn’t planning to say it either.”
"I'm just stalling for time and observing the environment."
The throne remained silent for a long time, and Khorne, behind it, also remained silent on the skull throne.
He realized that He and His brothers in the gods seemed to have been tricked by a three-month-old primordial.
But He was not angry; on the contrary, He was even more pleased. Courage and wisdom were what Khorne desired; mere brute force was nothing more than a brute with a brilliant mind.
"I possess the authority of a warrior. Simply believe in me, and your path as a warrior will go further than anyone else's, surpassing all those who came before and will never be repeated. I can make you the greatest warrior!"
Khorne still didn't want to give up, and kept testing Doom little by little, trying to make him believe in him.
“No,” Doom shook his head, dismissing the brass chair theory: “My education and existing knowledge tell me you’re wrong.”
"To become a warrior, one needs a strong heart, the courage to challenge the strong, unwavering confidence, and an indomitable spirit."
"A soldier's glory must be earned by himself, not given by others."
The young man slowly recounted his understanding of warriors. As the storm in the blood-red wasteland subsided, only his voice echoed: "The glory earned by one's own hands is more dazzling than that bestowed by others."
You claim to be the god of warriors, then I ask you, god of warriors: Do you require me, who is about to embark on the path of a warrior, to submit to you?
The clear voice fell like pearls, silencing the skull throne.
Within the warp's realm of Khorne, the god of evil's maniacal laughter shook the heavens and earth, causing all demons to bow their heads. They exchanged knowing glances, unable to comprehend the reason for the blood god's joy, unable to grasp its intensity.
The courage to challenge the strong! Unwavering confidence! Indomitable spirit!
Look at what that kid is saying! He loves him so much!
They are neither humble nor proud nor hypocritical in the face of God, but perfectly fulfill their word, are wary of unfamiliar gifts, and have unique insights into their own path.
They have already grasped the most important essence of being a soldier, even before undergoing real soldier training.
Korne's feelings at this moment are bittersweet and conflicted.
Because evil gods are contradictory beings. They love pure essence, those radiant souls.
The Blood God dreams of taking in all the courageous souls who dare to fight, yet also hopes they will say "no" to him!
Defiance against the gods is itself a form of resistance; those who say "no" to the gods possess unparalleled courage and indomitable spirit.
"Actually, I didn't want to become a soldier; that was the path my father planned for me."
In a secluded, empty space, facing a brass skull base, Doom spoke the truth hidden deep within his heart.
His ideal was not to become a warrior; he preferred traveling and farming to being a warrior or a king.
"How could you not become a warrior!" The skull trembled again, trying to straighten the boy before it and prevent him from going astray: "How dare you disappoint your father's expectations and not become a warrior?"
"Never let your father down, you must become a glorious soldier!"
Doom spread his hands and said solemnly, "I am walking the path of a warrior."
"Yes! Yes! Yes!" The skull base vibrated incessantly, and the owner of that magnificent voice visibly breathed a sigh of relief: "Just don't stray from your path."
Wait! On the Warp Skull Seat, Khorne suddenly awoke. If Norwick had been the one to get Doom to worship the Blood God, the success rate might have been much higher.
Doom respected his father and would never betray the path Norwick had laid out for him.
Even after leaving the warp, Doom's soul retained a self-protective mechanism, shielding him from the messages the gods had sent him.
What made the gods even more desperate was that as he continued to grow, the Warp Infections became increasingly difficult to reach his soul.
Once I understood this, my rage improved greatly.
"I'm leaving."
Doom felt the mark on his chest growing hotter and hotter, and this spacetime was about to collapse. He bid farewell to the skull like a friend.
Khorne also realized that the small world was about to shatter under the pressure of the warp and reality.
"I need to leave too."
After the world shattered, Doom's soul returned from the Blood God's Realm to the real universe, while Khorne's Will returned to the warp.
The Blood God turned his gaze to the real universe, looking at the soul of King Norwick, a resilient king and a powerful warrior.
Khorne really likes him!
“I’ll talk to your father! Doom! You’re meant to be mine!”
Then the focus shifted to a person kneeling and praying, begging for the mercy of the gods.
The Blood God recognized him; that man was a plaything of the treacherous.
“It’s time to talk to my brothers and see what ‘gift’ Sinrej has prepared for Doom.”
Doom's vision went black again. When he sensed his surroundings again, the orc's corpse was still twitching, and the Night Guards' praises rose and fell.
Time seemed to have never moved forward.
