Warhammer 40: Doom

Chapter 233 Farewell in the end

Chapter 233 A Parting is Inevitable

The lady signed the trade agreement and respectfully left the palace hall.

The rest will be left to the Regner family to establish a galactic route.

With such enormous profits at stake, the Reigner family needed to assemble an escort fleet to protect cargo transport from disruption.

This is not difficult. Merchants and wandering warriors have oaths and rules, and through multi-party negotiations and profit sharing, they can quickly assemble a fleet.

Profit is something that businessmen pursue eternally.

Because of a trade agreement, the Reigner family will soon rise to prominence and become a highly sought-after new elite.

Of course, the Reigner family also faces considerable challenges.

Becoming the designated merchant between the two empires would bring immense benefits, naturally attracting the covetous eyes of those with ulterior motives.

With the support of two Primarchs and the protection of Space Marines sent by the Space Wolves, the pirates would have no reason to covet the property.

Once Doom has arranged these things, he won't pay much attention to them.

Perhaps in the eyes of wandering merchants, the trade agreement was enough to stir up a storm and reshuffle the power structure.

For the original genome, such “minor matters” are indeed not worth paying too much attention to.

People in different positions have different perspectives.

Under absolute authority, the Primarch has absolute dominance, and all benefits and power originate from itself.

If the Regner family fails to handle this matter well, they will perish in the storm of interests, and Doom will choose the next successor.

He relinquished his own interests and selected people of high quality to do the job well.

Doom is not a babysitter and has no obligation to protect or protect Regner.

The Milky Way is cruel; survival of the fittest and natural selection mean that survival comes at a necessary price.

"Why did you leave the fleet stationed in Fenris?" Doom continued making his move, his eyes fixed on the chessboard, asking Russ without looking up.

"Your strategy was to keep the Fenris people away from technology and preserve their primitive appearance."

During a casual conversation, Ruth mentioned that he had concealed the Empire from the mortals of Fenris, preserving the wildness of the local people as much as possible.

The Wolf King believed that only those who have endured trials and tribulations and extreme environments can grow into true warriors.

The legend was deliberately steered, and the arrival of Ruth and the Emperor became a myth passed down orally.

In the mortal understanding, the wolf king Ruth returned to the side of the "Allfather" and went to the "Hall of Heroes" to fight eternally for the Allfather.

If the Fenrisians pass the test, the Wolf King will send an envoy to guide the warriors to Valhalla in the stars, so they can continue to serve the Great Wolf.

“This is not contradictory, my brother.” Ruth placed his white piece and said slowly, “I never intended to overturn my own decisions or be the kind of person who changes his mind frequently.”

"I will build a transit space station on the other side of the star Fenris, hidden from the perception of the Fenrisians, so that mortals will never be able to observe it."

“My brother…” Ruth’s fingertips trembled slightly as he placed the piece, his voice hoarse from years of hardship: “Just as you said, we will eventually disappear.”

"Wouldn't it be the perfect time for Fenris to be free from savagery and frost after the Great Crusade ends?"

"Back then, the Fenris embraced civilization, and a thriving trade route would have made their lives relatively more prosperous, wouldn't it?"

Doom nodded silently and continued placing his pieces. He had no other options left, and Russ had won this game.

The Great Wolf is making arrangements and planning for the future of the Fenris.

The two continued their game, the sound of pieces being placed echoing as they awaited the return of the Mechanical Sage.

Three hours later, the mechanical sage cautiously entered the hall, bringing news from Mars.

"Your Excellency Lord of the Stars, Mars is willing to apologize to you." He was extremely respectful, his mechanical body bowed low, and said in the most humble manner, "Twenty mineral-rich worlds, along with their coordinates, are offered."

"Oh." Doom's voice was completely calm, deep and unfathomable, making it impossible to guess his thoughts.

The mechanical instructors were quite sensible; they cut ties cleanly, leaving him with no further reason to cause trouble.

The mechanical sage took out the memory from his red robe and presented it with his two mechanical appendages.

A maid carrying a tray approached him and placed the storage device on a red satin plate.

At this point, the sage breathed a sigh of relief, the Primarch accepted the gift, and the matter was considered settled.

"Without disturbing the two Primarchs' enjoyment, I shall depart. You may summon me at any time if you require anything; I await your presence at the Mechanicus base in the Empire world."

His voice was soft and humble, his body slowly retreating, his heart yearning to leave as quickly as possible, yet his mouth uttered eloquent words. Holding the great axe of forging in his hands, the sage dared not make a sound, lest he attract the Primarch's attention.

No further instructions were given after he left the main hall and disappeared around the corner.

Once out of the Primarch's sight, the Mechascient immediately increased its speed, its mechanical appendages on its lower limbs moving with great power, revealing a hint of joy.

“Tsk tsk tsk,” Ruth clicked his tongue and shook his head, his eyes gleaming with envy: “Twenty resource-rich worlds.”

The Space Wolf's resources were meager; twenty resource planets meant little to Nur, but they were something the Wolf King had long envied.

Doom smiled, ignoring Russ's envy, and remained silent, focusing on the new game.

The return of the Lord of the Stars is widely known, and with the Ragnar family setting a precedent, even more requests for visits have been sent.

The traveling merchants were extremely eager for a response from the Lord of Nur to open up new sea routes.

In this great age of exploration and revival of humankind, they occupied a pivotal position, allowing their family to endure for millennia.

Doom rejected all requests and ceased intervention, allowing the market to compete freely.

The Regner family assembled a large fleet, laden with food and goods, and set off from Nur for Terra.

Six months later, the badly damaged merchant fleet returned, bringing with it a vast fortune to the Nur gateway world.

Their journey was epic, with the fleet encountering countless human pirates and even Eldar raiders.

If not for the protection of the Space Wolf Warriors, the merchant fleet's first shipment might have been torn to shreds by raiders.

At the port where the fleet returned, Victoria poured out crates and crates of imperial currency, covering the entire docking port.

The overwhelming gold drove the traveling merchants and wandering warriors into a frenzy!
The readily available wealth attracted more ships to join the long-distance merchant fleets.

With money right in front of them, what are pirates?
Victoria Regner met with Doom again, bringing him a handwritten letter from Makado, expressing the old man's sincerest gratitude.

"That cunning old man rarely says thank you," Ruth remarked with some surprise after reading the letter and returning it to Doom.

He and Doom strolled leisurely through the streets of the ring city, eventually wandering around the area where the stone men gathered.

In Russ's eyes, Macado was a strange old man, full of little secrets and unpredictable in temperament.

The expeditionary force conquered countless worlds, yet he never expressed any gratitude, and would even reprimand the legion for the way it conquered.

Doom sent food to Terra, which moved the old man to tears, and he wrote a letter of thanks himself.

“He loves humanity.” Doom was even more moved; he had never imagined that Makado would reply with thanks.

He carefully put the letter away, deeply moved by its sincerity. The old man thanked Doom for what he had done for the people of Terra.

Ruth shrugged, gave a slight smirk, and strode forward without saying a word.

"As soon as possible, load the cargo onto the ship and send it to Terra," Doom instructed before following Russ to the War Academy. Sophia would take care of everything.

The fleet makes a round trip every six months, transporting only a tiny fraction of the grain grown, as crops in the agricultural world mature extremely quickly.

Six months later, the Space Wolf Fleet assembled at the portal stargate, preparing to leave the Nur Cluster.

"Brother, all good things must come to an end." Ruth, clad in Fenris rune armor, stood tall at the port, bidding farewell to his brother before him.

In a year, the fleet has completed its upgrades and modifications, and the wolves are fully rested, ready to set sail with high spirits.

"Parting is for the next reunion." Doom smiled, showing no sadness, as he offered his brother a parting blessing.

"Ha! Ha! Ha!" The two men clasped each other's forearms with their large hands, looked at each other, and laughed heartily.

“My father is calling me; he encountered orcs in the void.” Ruth shook his head, a smug look on his face. “I’m fully prepared; I’ll send the greenskins to meet their freakish second brother.”

During his time in Nur, Russ was not idle; he learned a great deal, and his deepest understanding came from the orcs.

The Wolf King always remembered his brother's words: the orcs were a powerful force in the void and would one day clash with the Empire.

He studied alien knowledge so that he could destroy the greens with swift and decisive action when he encountered them.

"I guess I've hit a nerve with you." Doom sighed at the unpredictability of fate, as the Emperor encountered orcs and chose to summon space wolves for support.

Ruth waved goodbye to his brother, turned and left without hesitation, and boarded the brand-new Herafnkel.

After watching the Space Wolf Fleet depart, Doom boarded the Royal Majesty and led the fleet toward the Eastern End Starfield.

(Um, the timeline of the Fire Wheel War has been slightly changed.)
