Warhammer 40: Doom
Chapter 228 Swords and Fire
Chapter 228 Swords and Fire
Ruth swallowed a mouthful of bloody saliva, held the fang in his palm, and offered it to the girl: "As long as it does not violate human interests, you can use this to command the wolf pack."
This was a great honor and a great power—the Great Wolf Ruth gifted it to Lothie as a welcoming present to the new generation of his brother's family.
“This is too precious…” Flano wanted to refuse the gift, but Russ stopped him by raising his hand.
“It is precisely because of its preciousness that it is worthy of my brother’s family.” Ruth grinned, the bleeding in his mouth having stopped.
The Primarch's regenerative abilities are naturally powerful; it won't be long before his lost fangs grow back.
Luo Xi didn't accept the tooth, but looked to Dum for help, because she knew that only her uncle could make the decision.
Doom nodded slightly, indicating that she could accept it.
This is indeed an exceptionally precious gift, and it may come in handy someday in the future.
This gift would provide the Norwick family with some security, and Ruth meant well, so naturally they couldn't refuse him.
"Thank you, sir." Luo Xi stretched out her fair hands, took the dagger-like sharp tooth, and felt its heavy weight.
“We’ve grown accustomed to each other.” Ruth’s face fell, and he said with a hint of reproach, “I am Doom’s blood brother, you can also call me ‘uncle’.”
After saying that, he bent down and picked up Luo Xi with his huge body, letting her sit on his broad shoulders to show his affection.
Ruth took the initiative to be friendly, which eased the tense and serious atmosphere considerably.
"This way, please." Flano smiled, raised his hand to indicate, and turned to lead the way.
Doom nodded to Russ, and the two followed slowly as the group headed towards the palace.
While passing through the Royal Palace Avenue, Flano introduced the culture and historical changes of Nur to Rus, the brother of Dum.
With Luo Xi on his shoulder, Ruth walked solemnly down the palace avenue, listening to the introductions and nodding approvingly from time to time.
On both sides of the Royal Palace Avenue, huge stone screens are carved with history, creating magnificent scrolls.
It depicts the rise of the Night Watchers, then showcases the glory of their turbulent years, and finally shows people looking up at the stars and looking forward to the future.
Rus watched with great interest. Unlike Fenris, Nur had all his history clearly recorded, and everything seemed as if yesterday were right before his eyes.
The history of Fenris is mostly passed down orally, and the historical figures and events gradually became songs and myths.
"What race is that?" Russ pointed to the stone sculpture, which depicted a strange race he had never seen before.
They are hairless on their heads, have strong limbs, wear simple clothes, and have contorted, crazed faces.
The stone carving depicts a scene where a vast number of those strange races surround the city and battle the Night Guard.
“We call them green-skinned orcs.” Doom looked in the direction Russ was pointing and immediately explained, “A savage and warlike race.”
Doom elaborated on the characteristics of the orc race: their belligerent nature, their troublesome half-biological, half-fungal properties, their unique Waaaaaagh field, and their pleasant taste.
However, he does not recommend that ordinary people eat orcs, as mortals who ingest large amounts of orc spores will experience genetic mutations and gradually turn green.
Ruth found it interesting; the universe was unimaginably vast, and he had never seen such a strange species as the green-skinned orcs.
"The War College Library has a lot of Greenskin knowledge; you can learn more about it."
Doom reminded his brothers to prepare for an encounter with the Greenskins.
The powerful creations of the ancient sages could never simply disappear from the universe; the Empire will one day encounter them.
The first to be affected will be the Primarch who leads the legion.
“I will definitely study.” Ruth nodded solemnly. Through his brother’s description, he knew the potential of the orcs in war.
"And what is that?" As the group moved forward, Ruth, like a curious child, kept asking about the history recorded on the stone carvings.
He saw before the end of the stone scroll that Doom held a strange greatsword, pointed it to the sky, and his brother was surrounded by a dazzling light.
He was surrounded by night guards wielding spears, who fought bravely and drove back the terrifying monster.
The monsters were unlike anything I'd ever seen before; even the stone sculptures exuded pure malice.
Some are muscular and have bat wings on their backs, with prominent horns and a face full of rage; some are blasphemers with alluring figures and four arms growing from their ribs; some are as bloated as small mountains, covered in sores and extremely joyful; some are bird-shaped with wings on their backs and hold raging fire in their hands.
There were also all sorts of types, big and small, baring their fangs and claws as they surged toward the Night Guardians.
Their ferocious and evil appearance is very similar to the creatures in human legends—demons.
The war between the two sides was terrifying. Demons attacked the Night Guardians and surrounded Doom and his warriors.
But the outcome of the war was not hard to predict: his brothers were still alive, and the guardians of the main territory still stood firm in Nur.
“Some ordinary aliens.” Doom’s eyes swept over the wall sculpture, a helpless smile on his face. He shrugged and said, “With some exaggerated artistic creations added.”
He spoke as if it were the truth, his expression unchanged, even his tone somewhat helpless, as if lamenting that the artist's creation had gone too far. "I see." Ruth nodded slowly, his gaze leaving the sculpture, not delving any further.
Trusting his brother, he would not discuss the matter further.
But Ruth knew that those terrifying things were definitely not "simple aliens".
He is an extraordinary genetic prototype, capable of quickly reconstructing the truth of a matter from the slightest clues.
This enormous stone carving, which previously depicted legends and heroic epics, never featured such a strange monster.
They seemed to appear out of thin air, then were defeated by Doom and the Night Watch, and vanished completely from history.
Humans cannot recreate that malice and terror through imagination or any artistic embellishment.
Before Ruth looked away, she deeply memorized the carved images, imprinting those monsters on her retina and engraving them in her brain, never daring to forget them.
He didn't delve into the specific details, but instead asked his brother, "What's the quickest way to eliminate them?"
“Swords and fire…” Doom answered quickly without hesitation. Swords and fire were the most effective weapons against demons. After a moment’s thought, he added, “And psionic energy.”
This is the limit he can reveal; knowledge of chaos is truly taboo.
Doom found himself in the same predicament as King Norwick, hesitant to reveal too much and unsure of his brother's attitude toward Chaos.
He had another concern: the Emperor had repeatedly warned him that the Primarch or the Space Marines must not be allowed to know about Chaos.
Although he didn't know the emperor's specific plans, there weren't many things he cared about, and there must be a reason for his repeated instructions.
Furthermore, the fewer people who know about the existence or knowledge of chaos, the better, as this can weaken the power of chaos.
"Swords, fire, and psionic energy?" Ruth murmured softly, noting down the methods for dealing with the unknown monster.
His animal instincts told him that the images carved on the stone wall were definitely not simple, and knowing how to deal with them would be very beneficial.
The two fell silent. Ruth asked no more questions, and Doom revealed no secrets.
"These are the old King Norwick and Queen Daisy," Flano's somber voice rang out at the opportune moment, introducing Russ to the statues at the end of the list.
Along the Royal Avenue, at the end of the procession of statues of kings, stands a lifelike statue of the old King of Norwick.
His statue is the most unique, sitting on a throne with Queen Daisy standing beside him.
As the saying goes, seeing an object reminds one of a person. There was a somber look in Doom's eyes as he looked up at the statues of his father and mother, still missing them.
Ruth looked up at the statue's face; the man's face was majestic and imposing, while the woman's was beautiful and kind.
He chose to kneel on one knee to show respect to his brother's parents, bowing his head in silent mourning for a long time.
These "ordinary" parents raised a brother with a great soul, and he must respect them.
Luo Xi climbed off his shoulder and silently mourned her grandparents.
The space wolves following behind knelt down with the Primarch, expressing their respect to the Primarch's parents.
The two wolves, Freddy and Gerry, lay prone on the ground, their ears drooping, emitting soft whimpers as if they were weeping for them.
After a brief moment of mourning, the procession continued forward, arriving at the royal palace that guarded the main domain.
Returning to the ancient bluestone hall, Dum was somewhat dazed; he hadn't been back here for a long time.
After the lockdown was lifted, Nur moved his office to the Nur Ring to handle the increased workload.
Doom felt some resistance to guarding the royal palace of the main domain.
The events of that year are still vivid in his mind; he can never forget every detail of that day.
Next to the throne was a chair, which served as the seat for the "Regent" Flano, and was used to handle some urgent matters.
Inside the hall stood waiting people, humans from all over Nur, who had come to pay homage to King Novik's blood brothers.
They knew a great deal about the human empire, including the Lord of Man and the twenty-one Primarchs.
All eyes turned to King Norwick, to the giant who blended wildness and elegance, and the two striking giant wolves beside him.
"The party begins."
The main characters arrived, and Flano announced the start of the banquet.
The mermaid raised her head and sang the most beautiful song with the most melodious voice.
(Hehe, no hehe...)
