Warhammer 40: Doom

Chapter 127 Souls Gather Here

Chapter 127 Souls Gather Here
“Seth”.

Doom called upon his offspring through the telepathic link, instructing them to come in and clean up the undead body.

Seth and his three brothers pushed open the door and entered, where they saw the Father of Genetics standing by the window with a metal skull at his feet.

"Seal it off." Doom pointed to the metal body left behind by the Necromancer on the ground. "You two will personally guard it and not allow outsiders to approach."

Doom knew all too well the horrors of the space necromancers.

He blocked the news, not allowing anyone to know about the existence of the undead, especially members of the Cult of Mechanics.

The ancient aliens' advanced technology must not be revealed to them to avoid causing trouble.

The once-ruling rulers of the galaxy—the Necromancers of space—remain dormant, their awakening unknown.

Do not disturb them. Once the undead are resurrected on a large scale, humanity's Great Expedition will never end.

At that time, the Great Crusade will evolve into an endless battle between humanity and the former overlords.

Therefore, blocking the news now is the right thing to do.

"Anyone who investigates without permission, kill!" Doom's tone remained calm, but his killing intent was undiminished.

"I will obey your command!" Doomsday Warrior performed a warrior's salute, assuring the Father of Genesis.

They also sensed the gravity of the situation, and the impending doom that the father of genetics had foretold.

The Doomsday Warrior used a stasis field to seal the metal body in a metal coffin, transported it back to the spaceship, and guarded it closely.

From the highest point, Doom looked down upon the outer perimeter of the alien hive, where the two legions worked together to build a formidable fortress.

Sparks occasionally flashed within the city. Most areas had been cleared, but a few hidden corners harbored aliens, which the cleanup forces were eliminating.

He walked to the bedside, lay down quietly, and nestled by the fire to rest.

Although the Primarch does not need rest and can fight at high intensity for a long time, sleep is not necessary.

But Doom still enjoyed the moment of peace that came with sleep.

There's no need to worry about the defense of the hive city; reinforcements from other alien hive cities can't get here. The city was built to give mortals a sense of security, so they can get a good night's sleep.

Within the hive, psionic shields can still withstand orbital bombardment; sending a large army out of the city would be suicidal.

After all, on the alien homeworld, the sense of security provided by a fortress is far more reassuring than that of the wasteland.

Space Marines can overcome their physiological instincts, suppress their anxieties with willpower, and feel the sense of security that power armor brings.

Ordinary people are different. Their weapons and equipment are relatively simple, they do not have the superhuman bodies of Space Marines, and their hearts are more fragile.

For at least a month of stay in Terra, Doom has a responsibility to make proper arrangements for the mortals, building fortifications with stone walls to give them a sense of security so they can sleep peacefully.

When he woke up, it was already early the next morning.

The air on the alien homeworld is moist and the morning sunlight is warm and very comfortable.

Doom sensed that someone was waiting outside the door.

"Let them in."

A message came through the mind link: the Doomsday Warrior retrieved his crossed halberds and allowed the waiting people to enter the Primarch's bedroom.

"grown ups."

They greeted Dum with the warrior's salute of Nur.

Terra's language spread throughout the human world, and the warrior etiquette from Nur gradually became popular in the expedition fleet.

Doom nodded in acknowledgment.

The Fourth Legion's Fricks and the Seventh Legion's Appius respectfully placed the report data board on the table beside them.

The two legion representatives were filled with excitement, as if they had opened the door to a new world.

Encouraged by the Primarch, they adapted to work they had never imagined and did it very well.

Siege engineers and architects. Two opposing professions cross-check each other, filling in any gaps or weaknesses.

Overnight, mortals, with the help of Space Marines and the Cult of Mechanics, completed the patching up of the outer defenses and began deep construction.

The talents hidden in our genes, the treasures bestowed by the father of genes, can now be developed and utilized.

"Go down and get busy."

Doom picked up the data panel, saw the impatience on their faces, smiled, and let them leave.

“You may summon us at any time.” The legion representative bowed and slowly left the room.

Before the operation, he knew nothing about the Fourth and Seventh Corps and had only briefly read the expeditionary materials.

Doom's bold idea was to have both sides work together.

He planned the overall operation and transferred two legions to the area as a precaution.

Discovering that the Sand Lizard Navy was easily defeated and that humanity had absolute air superiority, Doom allowed the two legions to fight freely.

Intertwined, the two legions indeed unleashed different kinds of passion. "My lord. I dare not draw any conclusions about the unusual situation on the dome."

As Doom browsed the data panel, Ahriman's cautious voice came from the arm armor that connected to the communication.

After a moment's thought, he immediately got up and headed to the dome.

The core of this operation revolves around the constant sending of false distress signals, which must be treated with caution.

Led by several Dooms, Doom strode forward and reached the dome in just a few minutes.

Ahriman had been waiting for a long time. He respectfully lowered his head and reached out to guide the Primarch's gaze.

"Have you eaten the barbecue that was delivered last night?"

Doom asked casually, his gaze following the direction to the sand lizard priests between the psionic arrays.

Its eyes were vacant as it sat cross-legged in the center of the magic circle, with illusory psionic shackles wrapped around its neck.

“It’s…delicious.” Ahriman bowed, deeply moved.

"Its power is increasing?" Doom frowned, his insightful eyes reflecting the stunned figure of the sand lizard priest.

“Yes, sir.” Ahriman explained slowly, “Starting two hours ago, it… not just it, the power of the sand lizard firewood is also increasing.”

“In the past, it took two hundred firewood heads to send psionic signals, but now it has been reduced by half.”

"For some reason, their psionic levels are increasing rapidly."

Listening to Ahriman's explanation, Doom sized up the priest, his eyes narrowing slightly: "Summon the biological sage to come up and prepare to treat it."

"I understand."

Ahriman immediately followed the Primarch's instructions, contacted the Biological Sage, and summoned him to heal the Sand Lizard Priest.

Seth came forward, swiftly wielding his halberd, and severed the sand lizard priest's spine entirely.

Doom grabbed it and shoved the bloody spine into his mouth, chewing it greedily.

As the spinal fluid is absorbed, he is absorbing the memories of the sand lizard high priest, all the memories of its life.

To prevent the leakage of warp knowledge and to gain more memories from the flesh and blood of the sand lizard, Doom personally ate the flesh and blood of the alien.

Primarch Probes are vastly different from Space Marines, and the amount of information they glean from flesh and blood is incomparable.

Soon, Doom wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and learned the true nature of the sand lizard's transformation from the priest's hidden memories.

As a psionic race, sand lizards are incredibly powerful, and their soul fluctuations are remarkably similar.

After they die, their souls do not travel to the warp, the "soul void" that the sand lizards speak of.

Instead, guided by the souls of their kind, some returned to their home planet, while others merged with the souls of their kind to enhance the spiritual power of the living.

Because of this characteristic, the Sand Lizard High Priest's memories show that when it summoned warp creatures, it promised to sacrifice human souls.

With a quick probe, Doom realized it was Leman Ruth, whose rampage in the void had caused the sand lizard's soul to return, resulting in this change.

Good! Good! Good! So you're going to pull this trick, huh?
Doom nodded with a cold smile, not believing that the Emperor was completely unaware.

He had assumed that this expedition was a test by the Emperor, a political gesture to reach a cooperation agreement.

I never expected to be waiting for me here.

It's not hard to imagine what changes will occur to the planet and the sand lizard population after 90% of the sand lizards are eliminated.

"Heal it, don't let it die. Continue with the original plan."

"Yes, sir." Ahriman dared not ask any further questions. He watched as the Primarch devoured the alien's flesh and blood, and his expression gradually turned hostile.

Doom gave Ahriman some instructions, then headed to the newly constructed ground command post to prepare for some targeted deployments.

"Notify the fleet in orbit to activate all oracles and scan the entire world to search for dormant giant life forms."

He sat on the command throne, with a planetary overview floating nearby: "Extract sand lizard DNA and scan for similar life forms."

Doom stared silently at the holographic image, waiting for the fleet to scan it, suppressing the urge to curse.

When the consciousness of a sand lizard aggregates excessively, its body will develop rapidly under the influence of psionic energy, growing into a giant life form.

They are the embodiment of the dead sand lizards, born on the brink of extinction, and defeated all native creatures in several battles for survival.

When giant sand lizards are deprived of spiritual energy, they fall into a deep sleep, their bodies transforming into mountains to silently protect their kind.

A world that absorbs spiritual energy, a race that grows stronger the more spiritual energy it kills.

It's obvious. This alien problem should have been dealt with by the Emperor, but he hid on Terra and left the difficult task to Doom.

"Sir, multiple anomalies have been detected and sent to your terminal."

Ten minutes later, multiple warships in space conducted a scan and indeed discovered many unusual areas.
