Chapter 3, Section 03: Unlike Farming
“It’s time to go check it out.”
Early in the morning, Wang Jiefu got up and hurried to the fields.
While working these past two days, he discovered something that would make anyone's jaw drop—the crops on the land that Wang Ji had cultivated grew at least dozens of times faster than those on other plots!
The wheat sprouted as soon as it was planted.
A day passed, and the leaves had all unfurled.
Another day passed, and some of the faster-growing wheat ears began to emerge.
Today is the third day.
Wang Jiefu arrived at the field with a mix of trepidation and excitement.
When he saw the vast expanse of dark green wheat ears that were developing towards maturity and the scattered golden wheat ears that were already fully ripe, Wang Jiefu even forgot to breathe for a moment.
But there was no joy on his face; instead, he became increasingly uneasy.
...
"You mean, there's a seven-year-old child who was born with the ability to use 'creation magic'?"
In the town near the village, a man about Ian's age looked somewhat astonished, clearly needing some time to process the news.
"sure?"
"I'm sure, I saw it with my own eyes."
Ian nodded and said, "You have to believe me, Ryder, I know the seriousness of lying."
However, the man opposite him, called Ryder, had a serious expression and said, "Of course I believe you, Ian."
"But to ensure the accuracy of the matter, I must go with you to take a look."
“If it’s true, I’ll report it directly to my teacher. He works at the Alchemy Institute of Imperial University. He’s knowledgeable and has a lot of connections. He can handle this better than we can.”
Ian nodded.
Without further ado, the two hurried toward the village.
But in the village, a miracle has already occurred.
On the main road, Ian and Ryder rode their horses one after the other across the fields, heading straight for Wang Ji's house.
On the way, not far from Wang Ji's house, the two met a farmer who looked worried. Ian glanced over instinctively and realized that it was someone he knew.
So he slowly slowed down until he stopped, and Ryder behind him stopped as well.
“Jeff Wang?” Ian called out.
As a member of Wang Ji's family, Wang Jiefu was also under Ian's close attention.
Hearing someone call his name, Wang Jiefu snapped out of his deep thoughts.
“Supervisor Ian,” he replied.
Ian asked, "What happened? You don't seem to be doing well."
"Supervision, I..."
As Jeff Wang spoke, he glanced at the person next to Ian.
Something happened here…
Ian immediately saw through Jeff Wang's intentions and replied, "Just say it directly. This person next to me is my friend, and you can trust him completely."
"Ok."
Seeing that Ian had said so, Jeff Wang took a deep breath and calmed himself down.
They were then taken to the farmland.
From afar, Ian could see a small patch of golden yellow.
Before he could speak, Ryder beside him asked, "Is it wheat season now?"
As they were talking, suddenly, a wheat stalk that was on the side turned golden almost instantly.
Just a moment ago, the wheat ears were still green, but in the blink of an eye, they suddenly skipped a month or two of growth and turned into maturity.
The two of them stared wide-eyed.
"What's this?!"
The importance of the matter has increased.
Ian and Ryder exchanged a glance, communicating silently.
They both saw a hint of doubt in each other's eyes.
Speed-up magic?
And it's a lingering type?
Is there any record of this kind of magic in the great library in the capital that gathers the wisdom of the world?
Perhaps they have, but what the two of them are certain of is that they haven't seen it.
Ryder took a breath and said, "I feel like even my teacher might not be able to handle this."
Ian was also unsure, and he asked, "Then what should we do?"
"There's no use talking about this now, let's go see the child first."
"Ok."
Ian responded and invited Jeff Wang to mount his horse. "Let's go."
...
"It should be soon."
Looking at the floating clouds in the sky, Wang Ji calculated the time and estimated that some of the wheat should ripen today.
And, it's time for Coach Ian to come back.
Just as I was thinking this, I heard some noises in the distance.
Two horses, three people.
"coming."
"Is this the child you were talking about?"
The sound arrives before the person.
The horse's hooves kicked up some dust.
As soon as they arrived at the house, Ryder's eyes were immediately fixed on Wang Ji.
Ian dismounted and confirmed, "Yes, this is the child I was talking about, Wang Ji, Wang Jeff's son."
Upon receiving an affirmative answer, Ryder immediately asked, "Child, can you demonstrate your magic?"
After speaking, seemingly realizing he had been a bit too blunt, and considering the other person was only seven years old and might not even understand what he was saying, Ryder rummaged through his pocket and pulled out a piece of fruit candy wrapped in paper, which he had been carrying in his pocket for who knows how long. He handed it to Wang Ji somewhat clumsily and asked again:
"Kid, what I mean is, can you till a patch of land for your uncle to see? Here's some candy for you, apple flavored."
"... "
Wang Ji stared at the piece of fruit candy, which might have developed an unpleasant smell from being smothered, and remained silent for a moment.
When the atmosphere became a little awkward, he suddenly raised his hand happily and said, "Yay, there's candy!"
call--
The three adults, including Wang Ji's father, breathed a sigh of relief.
Children are children after all; they are very innocent and can be easily appeased with a little sweetness.
However, Wang Jiefu had a strange feeling when he saw Wang Ji going to get the hoe.
Know your own family.
Why does it seem like the three of us on our side are the ones being coaxed?
This fleeting thought was quickly shattered by Wang Ji's actions.
In front of the three men, Wang Ji raised his hoe and swung it.
Then a piece of farmland appeared in front of them.
Redton was surprised, while Ian glanced at Jeff Wang, who nodded, took out some wheat seeds, and scattered them on the surface.
pat.
Wheat seedlings appeared on the farmland without any growth process.
At this moment, Ian looked at Ryder again.
"How about it?"
Ryder frowned.
"Doesn't seem like it..."
It doesn't seem like time- or life-inducing magic; it feels more like some kind of... rule?
"Doesn't look like what?" Ian asked, puzzled.
Ryder regained his composure and replied, "No, it's alright. In any case, he is definitely a one-of-a-kind natural-born magician."
“We need to have a serious talk, Ian, and Mr. Jeff Wang.”
"I?"
Wang Jiefu was a little nervous; he knew that the person Ian had brought along was definitely not a nobody.
But things were beyond his control; he could only wait and see what this official was going to do.
The three began to discuss.
Wang Ji looked up at the sky, lost in his own thoughts.
Listening to the discussion, he knew he would probably be taken to the city, or even the distant capital, to meet some important figures—very important figures.
All of this was simply because of his demonstrated ability to cultivate the land.
It's not that Wang Ji is stingy or unwilling to use or showcase other abilities in order to develop quickly.
The village was simply too small, and the information he could obtain was far too limited.
In all his life, he has never witnessed anyone other than himself perform any 'miracle'.
Whether the water is deep or shallow is unknown.
Everything has to wait until we get out there first.
