Chapter 57 Hacker Needs

He was preoccupied with many things on his mind.

Lin Yue told the Mann team the details of the objective, but didn't tell them about the complicated things behind it.

The cyberpunk team's mission strategy revolves around not knowing the whole story—who to eliminate, what data to obtain, and which company to work for are all unnecessary details.

The middleman is only responsible for telling them the purpose of the mission and what the restrictions are.

This brings us to the advantages of having two identities. They allow Lin Yue to detect loopholes in the Mann Plan when mercenary information is opaque, enabling him to make adjustments that increase the success rate of the mission while also mitigating unnecessary risks.

Mann's initial rough plan was to stake out the club in Aye's Dog Town, follow them closely, and then have Lin Yue snipe and eliminate them on Taiping Island; at the same time, everyone should go to the location of Aye's successor to take control, thus reducing the risk of taking action.

Lin Yue then asked a thought-provoking question: "How did you know which road he was going to drive on?"

Everyone fell silent. Mann scratched his head and thought for a moment. "It seems the only option is to drive and have Lin Yue follow along for a driving sniping operation."

Dorothy shook her head. "If the car has some bulletproof protection, or can avoid optical detection methods—if that's not resolved, we'll be in big trouble... My suggestion is to split into two groups!"

Pila said nonchalantly, "Anyway, just kill this guy outside Dogtown, and go tie up the other animal gang... why make such a fuss?"

Lin Yue nodded secretly; it perfectly matched his impression of the team.

I still remember the mission this team was tasked with stealing travel data from Ferrari: it was a typical case of coming up with a plan on a whim and doing it without any corresponding risk contingency plan, and they could only buy some time by having Rebecca pretend to be a "soft little girl".

The key issue is that it hasn't been stalled yet, and has even caused quite a commotion.

Dorio: "You bastards, can't you be serious for once?!"

Lin Yue continued, "And then there's the issue of tracking the itinerary data. Let's find a hacker after this trip. I remember telling you that during that Vortex Gang commission, Mann. If you don't want the original team's hackers to come, then find a capable new hacker."

Mann sighed. "I'll make the contact after this job is done."

Lin Yue shook his head, somewhat helpless.

Dorio is now consciously asking Lin Yue for his thoughts before undertaking any commission. Lin Yue has many contingency plans for commissions, taking into account even low-probability events and proposing corresponding solutions.

"Lin Yue, how do you think it should be formulated?"

Dorothy felt a little uncomfortable and had been calling the young man Mr. Lin since the first time they met. She only changed her address after Lin Yue told her not to call him that anymore.

But subconsciously, Dorio felt that this mysterious former soldier of the Ghost Hound seemed to wield enormous authority; at least he could command the middleman, Rin.

Lin Yue pushed a chip onto the car's hood. "Since there are no hackers, we'll have to do it ourselves. This is a positioning chip. We'll find a way to insert it into Aye's car. I found a hacker from Night City who can provide remote support. It can be easily blocked for a little over three minutes. Once it's installed in the car, everything will be solved."

Lin Yue pointed to his head, "After the data analysis, we'll determine this guy's permanent location. Then I'll be responsible for killing him, and you all will go and control Aye's successor—the missions will proceed simultaneously."

Pila paused for a moment, then burst into laughter, "One day this kid will sell us out completely, and we might even be helping him count the money!"

"Sasha! Are you sure you want to go to Dogtown? Please, that's not some casual puzzle game!"

"That's full of Night City scum? Wake up!"

Stella Ramos was at a loss for how to persuade her sister.

Yes, she had always known that her sister was hanging out with a group of mercenaries from Night City.

From a young age, her younger sister was very intelligent, had strong self-control, and rarely experienced emotional fluctuations. Sometimes Stella even felt that Sasha's ability to perceive emotions had been completely taken away by her older sister, including when their mother was lying on the hospital bed passing away, she simply stared blankly at her.

But it's true that my younger sister really likes to stick close to my mother.

Sasha sat cross-legged on the sofa. This room was rented by her sister through hard work and the money she earned from taking jobs in the team. Her sister would be very happy to live in this room alone.

"But I don't think taking hacker jobs in the city is profitable."

Sasha didn't seem to understand her sister's concern.

Stella, her chest heaving with anger at her sister, looked at her sister sitting on the sofa, whose shoulders seemed rather thin, and finally softened.

"Hey! Listen, we need to survive in this city, and safety is the most important thing. You don't have to force yourself. Actually... you don't need to worry about Mom. I'll definitely take care of that first."

Sasha shook her head. "You mean, become an NCPD cop? I don't think the NCPD would investigate these things."

"Yes, yes, yes... Apart from the mercenaries who are so free that they commit crimes every day, is there no one else who can make an effort to make a difference in Mom's death?"

Sure enough, the conversation was never pleasant.

Stella couldn't even remember the last time her sister took a selfie with her cheek to cheek.

“And your dark-skinned, gorilla-like leader, do you know what you're doing? Doing too much of this kind of dirty work in Night City will get you into trouble! With a brain like yours, why don't you go—”

Sasha interrupted her sister.

"Help me, Stella. I really need to earn a lot of money. At the very least, we can't stay in this city anymore... Joining some puppet organization like the NCPD that doesn't care about anything... they won't find out anything anyway."

She didn't dare say that she wanted to go to Dogtown alone; Mann actually didn't agree to her coming.

"And I no longer think there's anything wrong with Mom leaving... at least I've let it go, sister."

Stella sighed and cupped Sasha's face, which was resting on her lap.

"Really?"

Sasha nodded. "I promise you."

Stella was about to say something when Sasha jumped up excitedly, "Dogville! I've never been to Dogville before. Rebecca told me they've started doing new work with a new middleman. It's a bit thrilling, but there's a lot of money involved!"

"Oh right! I need to call Rebecca and ask how things are going."

Stella slowly lowered her hand, which had been frozen in mid-air.

Sasha was like a bird dreaming of freedom; neither the City of Night nor she herself could ultimately confine her.

"Sasha, promise me you'll protect yourself, okay? It doesn't matter if we earn less, we absolutely must—"

"Be careful, be careful, be very careful! Got it, sis." Sasha finished her sister's instructions for her.

Stella picked up the dirty clothes from the sofa, shook her head helplessly, and walked into the laundry room. She kicked the broken-down machine that always swallowed money, while her sister rummaged through the closet behind her for her other black-market customer service equipment.

"You'll only be satisfied when you cause trouble."

A small heart appeared on Sasha's holographic glasses, saying, "I would never—love you, sis!"
