Chapter 44 Information and Crispy Sausage [Please continue reading]
Rebecca sat on the steps, hugging her knees, bored.
I wonder where that know-it-all Lin Yue was talking about went; we haven't seen a trace of him in four hours.
During this time, many Dogtown residents who were entering and leaving Dogtown Stadium thought she was a beautiful young woman who had gone missing from some club, but before they could even exchange a word, Rebecca pressed a gun against their chin.
If it weren't for the hound's presence, Rebecca wouldn't have hesitated to fire a warning shot at those menacing-looking guys around them.
Oh, and something interesting just happened.
A guy was stealing something at the stadium and got caught by the patrolling hounds.
He was dragged all the way to the outside of the stadium, and then punched by a soldier of the Ghost Hound until he was either dead or alive. In the end, he was thrown under the barbed wire fence by the roadside like a dead dog.
The "corpse-digging group" that had been waiting in the distance for half a day swarmed forward, all hoping to find something on the guy's body.
"Get the hell out of here, don't get in my way!"
In the distance, the hounds of the underworld fired their guns into the air, cursing the people who had blocked the passageway below the stadium steps.
Someone muttered under their breath, "What are you pretending for? You'll still have to take something out of us after we leave."
Lin Yue walked out of the stadium. Although the skin on the back of his head had been treated without leaving any marks, he could still feel a faint itch and pain. His brain felt like it was soaking in ice water, and he felt a bit excited.
"Where's the chip?"
Lin Yue looked at Rebecca with a puzzled expression, while Rebecca shrugged and yawned.
"We haven't seen a single hair yet, is this reliable? We're all getting sleepy waiting."
Just as Lin Yue was looking around for Bai Shitong, Bai Shitong's voice came from behind him, "The chip is here."
Just as Lin Yue reached out, Rebecca snatched the chip away.
"Hey!"
Lin Yue's eyelids twitched. How come this girl is just like V, daring to put anything she finds into the brain-computer interface and slot?
"Don't just stick it in randomly, it's easy to hurt someone," Lin Yue muttered.
Rebecca's legs were numb, and she didn't want to wait for Lin Yue to dawdle. All she wanted to do now was go in and choose a few of the better Mewtwos to try out.
Rebecca waved her hand dismissively, "It won't break, okay?"
[Connection and Transmission] - Lin Yue saw the message sent by Rebecca.
I looked at some photos of Aye at the club on the back hill. In the photos, a Latino man wearing an Animal Gang gym t-shirt and sunglasses was turning his head, with several Animal Gang security guards who were about the same size as him beside him.
The location information was also marked for Lin Yue.
As far as he knew, the only other bar in Dogtown besides the one at the Long Beach storage yard, Alex's Bar, was the Heartbroken Club.
But he had never heard of the one on the back mountain.
In 2075, there seem to be a few more shops in Dogtown than in 2077.
It seems this colonel isn't very good at governing a city.
Lin Yue thought the things he dug up were alright, so he transferred the rest of the money to Baishitong and left his number. Lin Yue had finally figured out a bit about the sources of information and intelligence in Dogtown.
It doesn't have to be hackers; word of mouth is also a good way to pass on information.
"You've waited so long, let me treat you to something to eat."
Rebecca nodded and exclaimed, "You do owe me."
So the two walked one after the other, with Rebecca following behind, her head resting on her hand, while Lin Yue went ahead to find a food cart that looked decent.
Lin Yue pulled out a stool.
He discovered that the owner, who came from Eastern Europe, didn't quite understand the service industry.
The bench is almost a meter high, which is really not very humane.
So he simply grabbed Rebecca by her clothes and lifted her up, saying, "See what you want to eat."
One of everything, please!
Lin Yue covered Rebecca's mouth and said, "Give me a generous serving of steamed pork with rice flour, tuna sushi, a plate of fried rice, and two small Cokes."
"Change the wine!" Rebecca protested.
Lin Yue waved his hand and opened the can of beverage. "No."
Rebecca took a deep breath, her forehead twitching. "Never mind," she thought, "there are too many hounds here. I won't beat him up."
As the two waited for their food, Lin Yue's eyes lit up. "Now? Sure... I'm nearby."
Lin Yue patted Rebecca on the shoulder. "I'll go check on the prosthetic body."
Rebecca, who had been eagerly awaiting her steamed pork, now had a slightly frozen expression on her face.
"Are you out of your mind? You still want to get a prosthetic body—you need to stop. Mann already said to let your body adapt, okay, you idiot?"
This guy usually has so many clever ideas, how come he's so stupid about this?
Lin Yue was stunned for a moment. He realized that Mann and the others took the matter of installing prosthetic bodies very seriously. He didn't say what he was about to say. If Rebecca knew that he had already installed them, wouldn't she yell at him?
"No, it's just a simple little debugging."
After saying that, Lin Yue turned around and walked inside without looking back.
“Don’t fucking pretend to be something you’re not!” Rebecca yelled.
Lin Yue waved his hand to indicate that he understood.
Sammy wasn't here this morning, but I have some free time now, so I can upgrade my new prosthetic body and import the latest version of the company system.
For the sake of the money, Sami is still quite skilled and reputable.
Rebecca scoffed, too lazy to care about that idiot anymore. Let him pretend if he wants, just pretend to be crazy and then get shot to dust by the Terrorist Mobile Unit.
The food trucks in Dogtown and Night City are not much different; they both use synthetic meat and strange seasonings with a hint of chemical additives.
Rebecca took small bites of the steaming hot steamed pork, and for some reason suddenly remembered Sasha's words...
In short, my appetite vanished along with my thoughts.
The food this guy ordered was awful!
Rebecca muttered to herself.
Bored, she could only take out her phone, prop her chin up, and scroll through messages in a daze.
Oh, right! Check if it's in yesterday's "dead man's lottery".
Depend on!
Just one more?!
Rebecca stared, a nameless anger rising within her.
She was feeling irritable, and she couldn't even explain why.
Just as Rebecca was preparing to wait a few more hours, Lin Yue casually sat back down next to her.
He acted as if nothing had happened.
"So fast?" Rebecca was incredulous.
Lin Yue frowned, wiping his clothes with a rusty fork. "I told you it's just a check-up procedure."
Hmm, the food is still a little warm.
This kid, Sami, works incredibly fast.
Rebecca inexplicably felt a sense of relief.
She watched Lin Yue devour the fried rice on the plate, and unconsciously swallowed.
The familiar aroma of steamed pork with rice flour wafted back into my nostrils once again...
My stomach feels hungry again?
Lin Yue noticed Rebecca staring at his rice bowl. "Want to eat this? Boss! Give this lady another bowl of fried rice."
The sky is big and the earth is big, and eating is the biggest thing.
Lin Yue continued to work diligently.
His greatest strength is that he has no sense of taste. He is particularly suited to the pre-made foods in Night City. Even the Japanese food in Japan Street couldn't win him over, let alone this little fried rice.
Rebecca was eating her slightly cooled steamed pork with her head down when she suddenly reached out her fork and snatched a piece of crispy sausage from Lin Yue's bowl.
Lin Yue, that idiot, was eating so deliciously that she couldn't resist wanting to taste what it really tasted like.
Rebecca took something from someone else's bowl and tried to cover it up by pretending to be very hungry.
Lin Yue, his mouth full of fried rice, stared in shock at the woman next to him who was devouring her food, and casually pushed the fried rice towards Rebecca.
"Ugh……"
"The children of Night City have never had anything good to eat."
