Chapter 27 Extra Chapter: Chica
Chapter 27 Extra - Chica (Girl) (Thanks for the donation)
Jack Wells' family was terrible.
As a child, he and his mother were often whipped by his father with a belt, but that's just how Jack is; he never gives up.
He gave that jerk a good beating and kept him quiet in the hospital for a few days. After that, he and his mother were the only ones living together.
At fifteen, Jack put on the Valentino gang's ring. Young Jack always dreamed of making something of himself, until a bullet from a Vortex gang bastard was pointed at his heart.
He knew that no matter how successful he became, nothing was more important than putting his mother at ease.
He became obsessed with fitness, worked hard to strengthen himself, put on boxing gloves, and had a great fight with a man named Victor in the Night City Devil Boxing Club ring.
"Be friends with whoever beats you up like an idiot."
So Dr. Victor and Jack clasped hands tightly and pressed their chests together; that's how simple male friendship can be.
This was also the first time Jack felt that his efforts would pay off, including in terms of friendship.
He loves riding motorcycles and is even preparing to participate in the "Gunfire and Horseback Riding" program. His most prized possession is this "Nazarei," a brand new model from 2075, which perfectly matches his adventurous life.
Jack Wells has known a girl since childhood, but of course, she's not like Camilla (note) or Misty.
She comes from a wealthy family and was born to work for a company.
Driven and spirited, he doesn't know how to spell the word "give up," and to be honest, he's quite compatible with me.
……
"Damn it... Jack, it's our counterintelligence department's turn to clean up this mess again."
V was complaining on the other end of the phone.
"My mom always says, be patient, and you'll always be rewarded—and the reward is always pretty good."
Jack often comforted V in the same way.
“But this job seems to be tormenting you.” Jack disliked his increasingly haggard partner and could only watch helplessly as the energetic V transformed from a cheerful person into someone slightly melancholic, and even occasionally silent.
“If we don’t come out, we can make money anywhere on the street.” V was busy working on Jack’s holographic phone, while Jack, having finished another job, was sitting in his usual open-plan private room at Leeds Bar, drinking a little wine.
"I want a promotion, I want to work overtime, I feel like I have everything, and yet I feel like I have nothing."
V sighed, shook his head with a wry smile.
Jack sat up straight. "Your boss, uh, what's his name again?"
“Arthur Jenkins…”
"Oh right, hanging around with these bastards, they'll sell you out one day... But, after get off work you can come to Leeds—" "Have a drink of this stuff, and you'll forget all your troubles."
Jack raised his glass, recited a toast, and downed it in one gulp.
"I sell you out, you sell me out, isn't that how Arasaka is? We have a project recently... that doghouse in Dogtown, and I'm like a mother hen, worrying about this and investigating that, making those idiots who aren't really willing to work hard for the company do the investigation."
"The downstream agents have too many tricks up their sleeves, making it quite difficult to get trapped."
V revealed everything.
She never hid anything from Jack; she said everything.
At times like this, Jack would quote classical texts, and Mrs. Wells' words were absolute truth to him.
V felt that talking to Jack was much more relaxing than having a spiritual mentor or doing yoga.
"Smile, Chica... there's no hurdle you can't overcome."
V nodded. "How are things between you and Misty?"
Jack became less lively when the topic came up.
He scratched his head.
“I don’t really understand the things she likes—but I’m very supportive, you know, when it comes to pursuing a girl, a little patience is never a bad thing.”
Before hanging up the phone, Jack Wells said seriously:
"Girl, we don't care what happens to us, but we can't be cowards."
V's enthusiasm was immediately ignited, "Then wish me success in my career! Amigo (brother)."
Jack laughed, "I'll have to see when I can make it to the Next Life Nightclub—"
"The chance to make a name for yourself is right there! If I could work with a great middleman... oh, like Dexter! Just thinking about it is awesome!"
A corporate employee, a street kid.
There's no more bizarre friendship in Night City than this.
Right? Chica.
Jack Wells muttered to himself.
