Cyberpunk: From Dogville to Legend

Chapter 124 Disappointment

Chapter 124 Disappointment (33)

The neon lights shone on the girl's wildly flying hair.

David felt as if a piece of his heart was missing.

He felt like he might be going crazy—that must be it!

David no longer cared about why Mr. Rin was there; all he wanted to do was escape.

The cool, soft touch of the girl's skin in his hands made David's heart race, but it didn't feel like a side effect of running.

call out!
The bullet struck a metal sign on the side of the street, sending sparks flying!
Lucy lowered her head slightly and turned to look behind her.

Can you drive?

Panting, David nodded and shook his head; Lucy had given up all hope for this bewildered guy.

Her eyes scanned the surroundings and she spotted a small path.

"here!"

The two made their way into the dark warehouse area.

In the end, Lucy randomly selected a small van parked at the door—an automated loading robot was stuffing bags of vacuum-sealed fresh meat into it.

The smell of blood reached their noses as David and Lucy leaned against the hanging steaks, one on each side.

The two of them greedily inhaled the slightly polluted and cold air.

"Arakawa, is Haywood fun?"

David swallowed hard, stared wide-eyed, shook his head, and after a long while suddenly asked, "Why are you helping me?"

Lucy remained silent.

Just as the atmosphere froze completely, a noise was heard.

David turned his head sharply and found a robot holding a bag of fresh meat staring straight at him.

Glug...

Just as David was getting chills, the robot threw the bag of meat at him, catching him completely off guard. Lucy burst out laughing.

"This is a whole food loading plant, fully automated, even the drivers are self-driving."

As she spoke, Lucy pulled over a small cart for hauling meat from beside her. The temperature inside the refrigerator was truly unsettling; she didn't want to sit on the cold floor any longer.

boom!
The cargo door closed, and with a slight tremor, the truck started moving.

Lucy smoked a cigarette, sizing up the disheveled guy.

"What do you need money for? You must be pretty good to have gotten into Arasaka Academy, right?"

David mumbled something, but then shook his head, preparing to play dead and not answer.

Lucy's expression was amused. It seemed this guy had no manners; he didn't even say thank you.

The car swayed as David observed the girl of unknown origin.

Outside the slightly dirty and blurry glass window of the cargo container, the neon lights of Night City shone, casting a messy yet beautiful glow on Lucy's hair.

Are you a cyberpunk?

David thought this charming girl who could use monomolecular lines at will was cool.

Lucy turned her head away, her eyes seemingly as still as before.

"Well... that's right."

David is the type who makes conversation even when there's nothing to say.

As if he had remembered something, he began to rummage through his clothes and finally pulled out a few crumpled euros in pocket money.

Lucy found this guy excessively cute, the cigarette butt in his hand swaying back and forth with her soft laughter.

"Rescuing someone from a bar in Night City costs more than this—I'm in a good mood today, so I'll give you a free job, no need to thank me."

David was so embarrassed that he wanted to crawl into the gap in the carriage floor.

Just as David was about to ask Lucy which area she frequented—

suddenly!

The car jolted violently!
"what's the situation?!"

David's already tense and exhausted heart started pounding again.

However, Lucy remained expressionless and spoke in a flat tone:

"Now you'll have to pay up."

After saying that, the girl leaned forward suddenly, wrapped her arms around his neck, and hugged him tightly.

David was struck dumb and dared not move.

At this moment, Lucy's warm breath was all over his neck, while a cold sensation came from his nerve slot.

Lucy's eyes were shining, her face was turned to the side with an unreadable expression, and the human-computer interaction cable on her wrist was reading David's data.

"Your classmates must all be very wealthy, right? Except for you, their parents are all high-ranking executives in companies, or very influential people... Consider their information as payment to me—"

"As for the tracking program Kirk planted in your system, I've already cracked it. You're welcome."

After saying that, Lucy released her arms from around David's neck.

Just as David was feeling lost and hadn't figured out what was going on, Lucy kicked open the back door of the truck!

Wow!
A cacophony of sounds instantly flooded the car, accompanied by several bullets hitting the synthetic flesh above David's head. Only then did David realize that his pursuers had caught up with him!

Seeing the gunmen sticking their heads out of the driver's seat of the gang vehicles, David instinctively raised his arm.

However, my body suddenly felt light.

David's buttocks were originally sitting on the floor of the carriage, but the next second he was lifted up onto the meat cart.

"Hold on tight, Arasaka!"

Lucy braced herself on the side shelf and kicked David, who hadn't even managed to grab the handrail, out of the way along with the cart!
I am!

David felt like his body was about to be shattered by the impact of falling to the ground! Lucy jumped onto the handrail, and the two of them entered the high-frequency vibrations brought by the rough asphalt road—David felt as if he had been injected with anesthesia, and all he could see were swaying circles of light.

hum!
Cars speeding by whizzed past my ears!

Immediately afterwards, another series of vehicles came rushing in—

Wow!
David felt that his body might be thrown off at any moment due to inertia!
"Stop!"

David suddenly realized what was happening.

He realized that this crazy behavior could very well get him killed by a car.

However, Lucy did not intend to slow down; instead, she used the amplitude of her body's sway to control the direction of the cart.

This uncontrollable vehicle weaved through traffic like a dragon.

Lucy's long legs gripped the end of the cart tightly, her buttocks raised high, her stunning figure forever out of David's sight.

Most vehicles on the highway barely grazed past this flatbed cart at high speed!

Lucy's slender body was pressed tightly against the cart, with David beneath her like a piece of synthetic meat, completely at her mercy.

David's eyes darted across the neon lights along the street, while he heard the girl's melodious yet manic laughter.

Lucy's eyes, which had been as still as a deathly place, suddenly came alive—her hair looked as if it had been kissed by a rainbow, with neon lights reflecting and intertwining on the strands, and the neon brilliance accompanied by the strong wind making the dancing hair leap with different colors.

“Isn’t it great?”

Lucy's voice was excited, released without any restraint.

Drip!

The blaring horn was practically exploding right next to David's ears!

The surrounding vehicles sped around the flatbed cart in a panic, and the sounds of collisions echoed as the gang vehicles attempting to pursue the two slowed down.

A girl's smile, neon lights, flowing short hair...

David was stunned.

Perhaps it was the first time he had ever seen the most beautiful and wonderful things in Night City in a truly meaningful way.

……

Wow!
Lucy's legs braced against the ground, emitting a puff of blue smoke, while David, feeling as if his body was about to fall apart, lay beside the cart, vomiting uncontrollably.

Her hair was slightly disheveled, and a lingering smile remained on her face.

Lucy lit a cigarette with her head down, then looked up and noticed a man standing quietly not far away.

A chill ran down her spine, and her hand froze in mid-air.

David, oblivious to the stranger's arrival, gasped, "Holy crap, are you crazy?!"

He grumbled intermittently about how upset Lucy's behavior was making him...

Only after David's nausea subsided did he realize that the girl in front of him was completely still, standing there blankly—

At that moment, David suddenly turned around and looked behind him. When he saw who it was, he was struck dumb.

"gentlemen?!"

David hurriedly stood up from the cart, his legs giving way, and he almost fell to the ground.

The person who arrived was Lin Yue.

He placed his hands in front of him, his gaze not on David, but on Lucy.

"Are you trying to crack me? Does this firewall look familiar?"

Lucy dropped her cigarette, her expression grim. "Who are you?"

Because she knew that this guy's firewall was Arasaka military-grade.

The visitors were hostile, and Lucy was not prepared to sit idly by and wait for her doom.

scoff!

A violent electric current surged through me!

Lucy's arm began to twitch; the other party noticed before she could even take out the monomolecular wire!

The light in Lin Yue's eyes disappeared.

David panicked and hurriedly explained, "Sir! She's not—"

Lin Yue reached out and interrupted him.

“David, it seems you haven’t taken my words to heart… Your mother has been very worried about you, yet I met you at three in the morning in Haywood. I’m very disappointed in you.”

David immediately took back what he was saying.

Lucy gritted her teeth, trying to regain control of her prosthetic body, as the guy drew closer and closer in her eyes.

Damn!

Lin Yue looked down at her.

Lucy felt a chill run through her body because there was a pattern she feared most on an unknown prosthetic structure on the side of that guy's neck—Arasaka's logo!

Will he realize that he escaped from Arasaka?

She had absolutely no chance of defeating such an enemy...

Lucy dared not think any further—all she knew was that what she feared seemed to be slowly unfolding.

However, the man whom David addressed with honorifics tapped his fingers on the back of his hand.

He was frowning, as if he was thinking.

The silence felt like a giant hand gripping Lucy's throat, making it hard for her to breathe. She could only stubbornly look into the man's eyes, awaiting the final verdict.
