Chapter 330 Little Green Man
Chapter 330 Little Green Man
Sevastopol, evening.
The wind blew in from the Black Sea, sweeping over the clusters of gray buildings and pouring into the corridors.
Alexei Milonov huddled in the small living room of his apartment.
The ceiling light flickered twice before finally settling down.
The curtains were drawn, and the edges were yellowed from the smoke.
The sofa sank in, causing him to nestle inside.
The coffee table in front of me was a mess.
All that remained were the vodka at the bottom of the bottle, the ashtray, and the old newspapers.
Alexei casually tossed his cigarette butt into a cup and picked up the TV remote.
"Click."
He sighed deeply and fell back down.
The screen immediately displayed a news intro, with blue subtitles scrolling slowly below.
— Unrest in Kyiv escalates: Senior U.S. official killed in attack.
Alexei narrowed his eyes, his gaze falling on the chest of the thick-lipped female host.
White.
In the kitchen, the mother was muttering complaints under her breath, not caring whether anyone was listening.
"The news from Ukraine is shocking."
"A senior U.S. official has died in the chaos of protests in Kyiv."
"The situation was out of control, with extreme nationalists mixed in with so-called opposition figures."
"According to witnesses, someone threw a Molotov cocktail, and the situation deteriorated rapidly."
The next second, the screen switched.
The scene depicts flames, flags, and screams.
The young girl lay in a pool of blood.
In the distance, the piercing noise of a loudspeaker could be heard.
"The investigation is not yet complete, but Washington is already eager to accuse Russia."
"Western media rushed to report on it, but avoided talking about the real details of the incident."
"The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this tragedy once again demonstrates that external forces are taking advantage of the Ukraine crisis."
"Moscow calls on all parties to remain calm and avoid further escalation of the situation."
Alexei tapped the cigarette box with his fingertips, but did not light it.
The dim light shone on my face, flickering between light and shadow.
"We must ask: Who truly benefits from this bloodshed and chaos?"
"Is it Russia, or some external force trying to create instability in Ukraine?"
A brief silence.
Then the father's comment followed, mumbling a curse of "fascism."
Meanwhile, the subtitles continued to scroll:
— Russia: The Ukraine crisis is being exploited by external forces.
— Residents of Crimea are concerned about their security.
—The Black Sea Fleet intensifies its exercises.
The image on the screen changed for the third time.
Police pushed and shoved away the crowd that had gathered to watch the spectacle.
As the truck drove by, the cannon barrel emerged from under the canvas.
Immediately afterwards, her mother's voice drifted over:
“Alyosha, can you hear me?” she shouted.
"The Black Sea Fleet is conducting exercises again. You stay put and don't go wandering around!"
Alexei gave a dismissive "hmm."
"Mom, where can I run to at this hour? The downstairs area is full of drunks and lunatics."
As soon as she finished speaking, her mother peeked out from the kitchen.
“Yesterday, Nadya’s nephew was stopped on the street and almost got beaten up.”
"What if you go out drinking late at night and someone starts watching you?"
"Do I look like I have money?" Alexei sneered twice.
"If they wanted to rob someone, they should at least go after someone driving a BMW."
The mother gasped, about to start scolding, when she heard the father clear his throat.
Then, the man swayed as he stood up from his chair, clearly drunk.
He stared at the television, his gaze gradually hardening, and suddenly shouted:
"Fascists! All fucking fascists!"
"Damn it, just run them over with tanks!"
His mother immediately turned around and glared at him.
"What else can you do besides yelling at people at home?" "You said you were going to buy bread yesterday, but where did you go? The stores are all empty!"
The father waved his hand impatiently and said:
"What do you know? I was just going to gather information."
"Armored vehicles drove out of the port, supposedly for an exercise."
"An exercise? Gathering information?" The mother's expression grew increasingly annoyed.
"Can the information you've gathered be exchanged for potatoes? Or for oil and salt?!"
After she finished speaking, she pointed sharply at her son on the sofa.
"Look at him, Alyosha is just like you now!"
"All you do is sit around smoking and drinking, and don't do any real work!"
Alexei was somewhat displeased when he was named.
"Mom, if you really want to save money, don't buy potatoes," he said slowly.
"Trust me, beer works better than potatoes. It fills you up and helps you sleep."
Hearing this, the mother laughed in anger. "Look at that!" she said.
"This is the fine son you raised!"
The father laughed and reached for the vodka on the coffee table, only to find it empty.
He immediately frowned, picked up the bottle and shook it to make sure it was really gone before throwing it back.
"Damn it, they didn't even leave any wine for your father."
Alexei shrugged.
“I didn’t touch it. It was all from what you drank last night, and you even peed in the doorway.”
The father was stunned for a moment when he was caught off guard, his face turning pale and then red.
Just as he was about to make a move, the glass next to him suddenly began to shake.
A deep rumble entered the living room, and the light bulbs swayed slightly.
The mother was startled and reached out to pull back the curtain, glancing up at the sky.
“Oh my God, a helicopter!” she screamed.
"They're here! They've really come!"
Alexei perked up, quickly straightened up, and turned to look.
In the darkness, several dark figures swept across the rooftop, red traffic lights flashing.
“Блядь.”
The father was so excited, he was like a man possessed. He rushed to the windowsill and started banging on the glass.
"Look! See?! This is our child!"
"Go, take care of those bastards!"
His mother grabbed him.
"Are you crazy?! Close it now! What if they see—"
"So what if I saw it!" Her father pushed her away forcefully, his face flushed red.
"They're on our side! Kill the fascists and get the Americans out of here!"
Influenced by his father's excitement, Alexei simply joined in the shouting:
"Hey! Give us some wine! Save a bottle for me! Save a bottle!"
The mother's face was deathly pale.
“Shut up! You two are insane!” she hissed. “They have guns!”
The helicopter circled the area twice before disappearing completely.
But the noise on the streets is increasing.
One military vehicle after another drove by, their headlights blindingly bright, stretching endlessly.
Tires rolled over potholes on the road surface.
Dark green camouflage, no markings, no unit number, no national flag.
Fully armed, wearing a mask, with the dark muzzle of a gun swaying.
"This is no longer a drill, Alexei."
The mother abruptly pulled the curtains shut, her hands gripping the fabric tightly.
"This is an occupation; war is about to break out."
"Dav! Charge! Let them know who's in charge!"
The father's breathing became rapid.
"For the Soviet Motherland! For the Soviet Motherland!"
Alexei didn't seem to have much of an opinion on this, he just grinned.
"For the motherland! For the sake of wine!" he repeated.
"For the motherland! For the sake of wine!"
