Chapter 327 SVest
Chapter 327 S-Vest
Eastern Congo.
At two in the morning, the city was pitch black.
The pickup truck drove into the edge of the city.
The car lights were turned off, leaving only the occasional flickering streetlights around.
Five people were sitting in the back row, with helmets, guns, and vests hanging on their bodies.
The cramped space was filled with the pungent smell of engine oil.
Colin's M4 was fitted with a silencer and had a PEQ-15 handguard.
“Weapons check,” he said.
(Weapons inspection)
“Up,” Bard responded immediately.
(Ready)
The two Ukrainians remained silent, confirming that their guns were loaded, and nodded in acknowledgment.
The Romanian reached for his magazine pouch at his waist, then touched his side pocket:
"Breach kit good."
(The breaching tools are intact)
Colin pondered for a moment, then repeated his instructions again:
"RoE reminder no frag flash only."
(Rules of engagement: Fragmentation weapons are prohibited)
"They need high-value goals in life."
"Comms check".
(Communication check)
Bard pressed the PTT button, and a slight static noise came through the headphones.
“Lima Charlie,” the Ukrainian replied succinctly in English.
(Received, heard clearly)
Soon, the pickup truck stopped 300 meters from the target.
The engine was turned off, and several people got out of the car one by one.
Under the night vision, the green light cast a blurry fluorescent glow over the entire street.
Colin tilted his head and spat.
"Alright, fuck'em, let's move."
The mission had no external support and no perimeter security.
The people from M23 didn't come in this time.
For them, Bukavu is a hostile zone, and forcibly intruding is too risky.
Therefore, only the five of them will be involved in the operation tonight.
The teams split into pairs and advanced along the base of the wall.
The soles of the shoes made no sound when they stepped on the sand.
As they reached the corner, the Ukrainian raised his fist to signal them to stop.
Everyone did as instructed, pointing their guns outwards.
After confirming safety two seconds later, continue forward.
A short while later, the building described in the intelligence report appeared.
The two-story brick building has advertisements painted on its exterior walls, and the paint has faded.
"Thermal imaging shows two thermal signals, one at the bottom layer."
Bard held up the thermal imager and reported softly.
"They might be guards."
Colin nodded: "No loud noise, no collateral."
(No loud noises allowed, and no casualties allowed)
Then he gestured to the Romanians.
The latter put down his backpack and took out a simple lock-picking tool.
"Breach silent."
(Silent breach)
A few seconds later, there was a soft "click".
"Stack."
(Preparing to break into formation)
Colin gestured for Number One to stick to the door with him, while the others spread out to control the corners.
Badr was responsible for providing long-range coverage, while the Ukrainians held the rear.
“Set”.
"Go."
The door was pushed open, the action decisive and swift.
Number One ducks in. "Right, clear!"
Colin followed up.
"Left, clear!"
The living room was messy, with several empty beer cans scattered on the floor.
There was a figure by the sofa, who was hit by a bullet before he could react.
Without any hesitation.
Two muffled thuds, and he collapsed onto the carpet, his head lolling to the side.
"Down, not target."
Colin spoke in a low voice, his gun already pointed towards the corridor.
A faint sound of wooden planks came from the stairwell.
"Upstairs movement".
The Romanians immediately pulled out the pin.
"Flash out."
The flashbang was thrown up.
"boom!"
A short, sharp sound.
White light illuminates the second floor.
"Push!"
Number One went first, followed closely by Bader, with the Ukrainians providing cover.
The next second, short bursts of fire poured down from the left.
"Contact! PKM left!"
(Enemy engaged! PKM on the left!)
"Suppress!"
(Suppressive firepower!)
The Ukrainian soldier peeked out to the minimum firing arc, fired a rapid burst, and then quickly retreated back into cover. The enemy's fire paused for a moment, only to be replaced by a series of long bursts.
Bullets splattered on the plasterboard overhead, and fragments fell in a flurry.
The group was stuck at the bottom of the steps.
The spent cartridge case rolled off, and dust choked us.
“They knew we were coming all along,” Bard cursed through gritted teeth.
"Fuck the intelligence, fuck it."
Colin stared at the firelight above, his breathing rapid.
“An external breakthrough. A second-floor window,” he said.
The Romanians pulled out ropes and breaching tools.
The Ukrainians remained in place and continued to use firepower to contain the enemy.
Colin led Number One and Bud outside.
The yard was overgrown with weeds. He kicked over a trash can and pointed at the second-floor window.
"Here. Quickly."
The Romanians swung the grappling hook onto the window frame, pulled the rope, and secured it.
Bud was the first to climb up, his body pressed against the wall, moving quickly.
Reaching the window, he first looked up to assess the structure, then swung the hammer and smashed it down.
"boom!"
Glass shattered.
Someone inside the room shouted, and then several bursts of fire pierced through the air.
The bullets scattered glass shards everywhere.
"Contact inside!"
Colin pulled out a flashbang with his backhand.
"Flash out!"
A burst of white light and a deafening roar erupted in the room.
"Go!"
Bard climbed in through the window, lay prone on the ground, and fired a few shots.
The two people inside were covering their eyes when they were hit by bullets before they could even react.
"Clear!"
Colin then entered and fired two more shots until the enemy stopped moving.
The Romanians were last.
"Room secure".
A loud noise behind them interrupted the enemy's rhythm at the stairwell.
Meanwhile, Colin and his group had already pressed themselves against the door frame.
Two Ukrainians at the bottom of the stairs opened fire simultaneously, forcing the gunman to lower his body.
In an instant, Colin leaned out and cut the corner, grabbing the shooting line from behind.
Three short bursts were fired, and the bullets hit the area between the shoulder and neck.
The machine gun slipped from his hands, and his whole body went limp and he collapsed.
"Target down!"
“Stairwell clear,” the Ukrainian reported, panting.
The two groups quickly converged in the corridor, forming an overlapping coverage.
The room at the far end was dimly lit, and a man sat alone in the corner.
He gripped an old-fashioned pistol tightly in his hand, which hung limply at his side, trembling incessantly.
The high-value objectives of this mission.
Colin recognized him and shouted angrily, "Drop it!"
Upon hearing this, the man looked up, his gaze unfocused, and his lips barely twitching.
"I am a general in the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo."
“You can’t treat me like this,” he uttered in broken English.
Colin's expression grew even colder: "Put down the gun—let me see your left hand."
The man hesitated for a moment, then finally threw the gun on the ground and slowly approached.
"You can't take me away."
"This is my land."
Upon seeing this, Colin's eyes narrowed, and he immediately took a half step back and raised his M4.
"Show me your left hand, Kasonga!"
"Don't do anything foolish—you won't die!"
"It's too late, it's too late," the man muttered to himself, his voice suddenly rising.
"It was destined!"
Immediately afterwards, he ripped off his clothes.
Colin's expression changed drastically, and he lunged forward, trying to create some distance.
“Vest——”
too late.
The next second, a deafening roar.
All that could be heard on the radio was popping and noise.
Bud fell into the rubble, and the ringing in his ears made him unable to hear anything.
He struggled to lift his head and saw Colin lying motionless amidst the mess on the ground.
"Man down, man down!"
(Team member falls! Team member falls!)
The Ukrainians were screaming, and it sounded somewhat distorted.
"Check the pulse—quickly!"
"No response, no breathing."
“Negative, KIA”.
(Confirmed, killed in action)
