Chapter 316 Go Niners
The author has something else going on. It's hard to say.

Can you guess where we're going?
The outside world is only inhabited by wolves, Kate.
And most unfortunately, you are not one of them.
You are not one of them.
Not one of them.
one of them.
"Kate? Kate?"
Are you listening, Kate?
"Kate Rivers!"
Kate snapped out of her daze and realized she had been lost in thought for too long.
She forced back her trembling, wiped her face, and tried to calm her wildly beating heart.
The dispatcher's instructions continued over the walkie-talkie:
"Unit 132, please proceed to Auckland city centre."
"A bar fight broke out at the intersection of 10th Street and Harrison Street; at least one person was armed."
"Repeated, please proceed to downtown Auckland immediately."
"Received, 132 is en route, ETA in three minutes."
After her partner finished answering, he glanced at her sideways and asked, "What's wrong? Still spacing out?"
"No." Kate smiled, trying to appear calm.
As I pressed the accelerator, the tires drove over the repair strips on the road.
Soon, the police car turned and drove into the brightly lit neighborhood.
The hustle and bustle of the night suddenly rushed over us.
A large crowd of people gathered on the street to watch the spectacle.
Screams, shouts, and the sound of shattering glass mingled together.
Kate took one last deep breath and, together with her partner, opened the car door.
A heat wave swept through, bringing with it a familiar, decadent smell.
Beer, sweat, and cheap cologne twisted together and burrowed straight into the nasal cavity.
The tightness in my chest intensified.
“Police!” Kate revealed the badge on her waist, her right hand naturally resting on the holster.
"Everyone stand back!"
In an instant, several men's faces turned towards this side.
On the right, two white men stand side by side, each holding a broken bottle.
Directly opposite, a tall black man was shirtless, with a tattoo circling his neck.
At that moment, his shoulder was slashed open, and blood was flowing down his shoulder.
“I’ll control the right side,” his partner whispered. “You make contact with him.”
Kate nodded and stepped over.
The noise crashed against my eardrums like waves, and the chaotic shouts gradually became sharper.
The drunks took a few steps back, leaned against the wall, and cheered, raising their beers.
Kate pulled out the handcuffs and moved toward the suspect.
His shoulder was still bleeding, but he seemed completely unconcerned and became even more excited.
"Get out of here, you bitch!" the black man yelled, spitting everywhere.
"I didn't do anything wrong! Who do you think you are? Fuck you!"
Kate tried to control his movements, her tone restrained: "Don't move, relax."
But the black man still swung her around suddenly with great force, almost knocking her over.
"Fuck your mother! You little bitch! How dare you touch me?!"
The voice was rough and hoarse, like a blunt instrument striking inside the head.
Kate gritted her teeth, pressed down on his shoulder again, and shouted, "Calm down!"
However, she was met with a barrage of hysterical curses in response.
"Fuck your mother, you filthy bitch!"
"let me go!"
"You son of a bitch, I'll kill you!"
“You’re going to die! Do you hear me? You’re going to die, Kate Rivers!”
She froze after she finished speaking.
I don't know when it started, but the lights around me began to flash wildly.
Neon color blocks alternated rapidly, crimson, blue-purple, and pale white, like a dream.
The angry shouting didn't stop there; it grew louder and louder until it became impossible to tell who was speaking.
"My fucking brother's right outside, you hear me?!"
"If you dare touch me, they'll kill you!"
"You're not a wolf, you're just a bastard!"
"You're going to die, you're going to die, do you hear me?! You bitch!"
"You will die here, you will bleed, you will be torn to pieces!"
Countless whispers intertwined and swirled, like a boulder pressing on one's chest.
"Stop!" Kate cried out in terror, but the black man was still grinning.
The veins on his neck bulged, and his eyes flashed with a crazed light.
She tried to back away, but her body wouldn't obey her commands, and she pressed down on him even harder.
The next second, he gripped the gun handle with his right hand.
"No, don't shoot, Kate, the program, the program," Kate murmured.
The suspect struggled again, his forehead almost hitting her nose.
The world has been cut into thousands of pieces.
Sweat, crimson, lips parting, a cold laugh, a warning. Finally—
"You're not a wolf!" "You'll die—!!"
"run------!!!"
boom!
Kate's ears were ringing from the shock.
The black man shuddered, and blood gushed out, splattering all over her face.
tinnitus.
A high-voltage-like shriek, sharp, persistent, and sending chills down your spine.
Nothing is heard.
The black man lay sprawled on the ground, his flesh torn open, blood gushing out incessantly.
He opened his mouth, gasping for breath helplessly, letting out broken sobs.
You will die.
run.
The crowd scattered and fled, some screaming, others shouting "mad cop!"
Kate staggered backward, her knees buckling, her hand still stiffly on the trigger.
"Kate!"
"Kate Rivers!"
"What did you do?! Weapon discharge! Call an ambulance right now!"
His partner's anxious shouts rang out.
Kate stood frozen in place, motionless.
"Shooting! Police are firing! We need paramedics!"
"The suspect collapsed—due to excessive blood loss!"
Everything was like a newspaper soaked in water, blurred to the point that only fragments remained:
"Stay with me, brother, stay with me—"
"Damn it—hold on! Hold on!"
"Kate, cheer up!"
Someone pulled her away.
Someone shoved her into the back seat of the patrol car.
The night receded outside the window.
The white fluorescent lights in the hospital corridor were blindingly bright.
Kate sat on the bench, her body covered in blood and sweat.
The pistol had already been confiscated.
Her partner was recounting the events to the police inspector, occasionally glancing back at her with concern.
Kate tried to hear clearly, but only one sentence kept echoing in her mind:
You are not a wolf.
You will die.
Until someone came over.
"Listen, you need to rest," the director said gravely.
"go home."
Two words.
It was like a trial.
Kate stood up and walked out of the building, looking dejected.
The warm breeze was almost suffocating.
When I returned to the apartment, the living room light was still on.
Andrew was curled up on the sofa, holding a glass of whiskey, watching the sports channel on TV.
“Hey, baby.” His voice was light and cheerful, as if she had just come home from get off work.
You look a bit awful.
Kate stared at him, her throat parched.
A moment later, she lunged forward desperately, grabbing his sleeves tightly with both hands:
“Andrew, we have to go. We have to get out of here right now, out of America. Please, I beg you.”
“I heard it in court. And today someone will kill me, Andrew, I can feel it. You don’t understand, it’s not an illusion.”
The man paused for a moment, then chuckled and stroked her hair.
"Hey, don't be like this. You're just too tired, baby. Rest—"
“No, you don’t understand!” Kate interrupted her boyfriend urgently.
“He’s here. He’s reminding me that we have to leave, and that you’re in danger too.”
"Next Wednesday, I remember you said there's a foundation dinner in Monaco. Take me there. Please take me."
Andrew sighed, then adopted a gentler tone.
“Listen, honey, relax and don’t scare yourself.”
"Of course, since you want to, we'll leave next week. Are you feeling better?"
Kate looked at him, tears streaming down her face.
She was too exhausted and desperate to even discern the hint of impatience in the man's eyes.
*********.
Andrew was startled by the sudden initiative and raised an eyebrow.
After a few breaths, he shifted to a more comfortable position on the sofa.
On TV, the quarterback had just thrown the ball when the catcher broke through the defense and charged into the end zone.
The voices of the on-site commentators instantly rose in volume.
"Good shot!" Andrew waved his arm excitedly. "Go Niners[1]!"
The stadium roared, and the room was filled with rapid breathing.
