Chapter 307 Nonsense
The apartment was dimly lit, and empty beer cans were scattered on the table.
The air was filled with the pungent smell of burning "herbs".
Jim lay half-reclined on the sofa, squinting as he exhaled a very faint puff of steam.
"So," he drawled, pausing for a long moment before finally speaking, utterly bewildered.
"One million one hundred thousand, split fifty-fifty, right?"
Zhou Yi turned his head, lit a cigarette, and tapped the computer in front of him. "Including the cost."
“Ah, right, costs.” Jim forced himself to sit up straight and opened the spreadsheet.
The white light emanating from the screen made his eyes appear red.
"First, the computers, two of them, cost six thousand five."
"And then the car?" Jim scratched his head. "A beat-up rental pickup truck, including insurance and a bunch of damn fees, how much was it again?"
“Seven hundred,” Zhou Yi said. “And the three thousand five hundred deposit is probably gone for good.”
Jim chuckled.
"Damn it, the car's in the sea or river, do fish know how to drive?"
Zhou Yi flicked some cigarette ash into the mineral water bottle. "So, it's four thousand two."
"Then there's the police, six thousand, plus the buyer's fifteen thousand, and IMEI."
Jim took another bite, then plopped back down.
Seeing this, Zhou Yi sighed and resignedly continued the calculations:
"IMSI capture device, 7,500, external antenna 2,000, total 9,500."
"Two cameras, plus memory cards and a tripod, for 2,800 yuan."
"The rest, all sorts of miscellaneous items, don't even add up to a few hundred, that's all."
"How much is it in total?" Jim was no longer able to think straight.
He stared blankly at the ceiling, reached for the beer bottle, and ended up picking up a mineral water bottle instead.
"Forty-four thousand," Zhou Yi said helplessly, "The remaining amount is one million five hundred and six thousand."
"It will be split 50/50, with each person receiving 528,000."
As he said this, he picked up the whiskey, hesitated for a moment, and then poured the rest of the liquid into the glass.
I gulped it down, and my throat felt like it was on fire.
"Do you do this often?"
Zhou Yi let out a long sigh, stubbed out his cigarette, and pointed to what Jim was holding.
Jim wore a sluggish smile.
He raised his finger as if to explain something, but in the end he just shook his head.
"Of course not."
"You can tell, I'm totally hyped right now. This is a celebration."
Zhou Yi sighed again and lit what seemed to be his umpteenth cigarette.
"Now that you're in this state, can you still understand how to handle cryptocurrency?"
Jim was lying on his back.
Upon hearing this, he sat up abruptly, his eyes lighting up instantly.
"Fuck it, money laundering!"
He slapped his thigh, as if he had discovered some earth-shattering secret, and danced with excitement.
"Don't bother with your damn agent, John. Their commission is worse than loan sharks."
"A jump of more than ten points! Only an idiot would use that!"
“Listen to me, first divide the coins into dozens of small amounts, put them into different wallets, and then use the mixer.”
"Go to, uh, the shell company wallet I told you about, go through it again, and exchange it for stablecoins."
"Finally, it goes back through an offshore account, into the United States, and then into a legal account."
"Perfect and risk-free, man."
Jim spoke so quickly that he suddenly coughed.
Zhou Yi shrugged, unmoved.
"Why don't we talk about it after you've used your own sales methods someday?"
“The people at FinCEN are not blind, much less stupid.”
“You don’t know anything! These are the most sophisticated secrets in the industry,” Jim retorted, yelling. “I’ve been in this business much longer than you. Even Lucas has to ask me to clean up his messes.” “Yeah,” Zhou Yi nodded perfunctorily.
"Your money from last time is still tied up with the agent, what's so great about that?"
Jim finally regained some of his senses.
He rolled his eyes, grabbed a beer bottle, and took a sip.
"Can't you let me sing a few lines?"
"It was my fault." Zhou Yi, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, raised his hands. "Your method was the best."
"The day I find someone to invest in your business, damn it, it has to make money."
Jim, oblivious to the teasing, proudly patted his chest.
“You’re a smart investor, John. Goldman Sachs should hire you to manage their money.”
"It's a pity I don't know any rich tycoons to trick them into buying bad debts." Zhou Yi scratched his chin, the alcohol gradually taking effect, and he started to talk nonsense.
“Of course I know him!” Jim grinned. “Look for this employer!”
"That's a real investment, a million dollars, just to humiliate a few spineless Mexicans? Damn, they're rolling in money."
"Then you need to find out who he is first—"
Zhou Yi couldn't find a lighter no matter what he tried, so he had to use an old cigarette butt as a makeshift lighter.
"And then I'll think about how to get money out of his pocket."
“Don’t be sexist, John.” Jim clicked his tongue and shook his head. “The sugar daddy might be a woman.”
"What, you've become a Democrat now, Jim Spencer?"
Jim's face turned bright red, and he picked up the object and took a big drag.
“Fuck them woke culture, I’m trying to be a gentleman.”
"But honestly, whether you're a man or a woman, we need to figure this out."
"Damn rich people, while we're eating shit in Afghanistan, they're sunbathing, eating lobsters, and drinking champagne in Malibu."
"He casually tossed out a million dollars just to humiliate a few bastards."
"And those bastards in Congress, they're giving contractors more budgets while they're having interns blowjobs for them."
"God bless America, damn it, God bless America!"
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yi knew that the drug was taking effect again and that he couldn't persuade him otherwise.
"Who do you think they are?" he asked, going along with the topic.
Jim was suddenly energized and stood up as if he had been electrocuted.
"These days, the intelligence agencies that can afford seven figures in cash are already quite small, especially in Washington."
Zhou Yi felt a little tired, so he simply lay down on his back on the carpet.
"Continue." He exhaled a puff of smoke.
"The first tier is Congress. I can name the loudest members of Congress. But the problem is, because of their positions, they care too much about exposure and dare not actually spend money."
"The second tier is the executive branch. There are a few old guys in the Department of Homeland Security who seem to have ties to the CIA. They have the motives and the money, but as for their style... who can say for sure? Maybe some of them have really changed their ways."
"The third tier consists of the bigwigs behind the arms dealers who would love for the drug war to never end so they can continue selling equipment. Hiring us to do a dirty job is disgusting, which makes perfect sense."
"Who do you think is most likely?" Zhou Yi asked casually.
“Isaac, Allen, Gibson, Grey Madeline, fuck it, it’s her, it’s her.”
Zhou Yi, who was lying in a semi-conscious state, sat up when he heard the name.
"Madeline? Who?"
“Deputy Secretary of State,” Jim said with certainty, “like they say, ladies first, wait, fuck me, she seems to be the only woman on the list.”
"Is this your reason?"
Zhou Yi realized he was talking nonsense again, so he lay back down.
Jim walked over, squatted down, stared into those unusually large eyes, and said in a serious tone:
"Believe me, when a woman gets really angry, she can be much more ruthless than a man."
"Which ex-girlfriend raised you to be like this?"
Jim's face stiffened, and after stammering for a while, he chose to shut up.
However, after a long pause, he couldn't hold back any longer and quickly said:
"Anyway, you have to admit, she's the most suspicious."
