Chapter 252 An Unexpected Development
Harold Fisher was woken up at 1:42 a.m.

"Get up quickly." The corporal in the same dormitory roughly pulled open the bed curtains and urged him impatiently.

Fisher opened his eyes groggily and the first thing he noticed was that all the lights in the barracks corridor were on.

Then he realized that the other party was fully armed.

"What happened?" Fisher asked instinctively.

"Level 2 emergency response," the corporal said succinctly. "This is not a drill."

Two minutes later, the open space next to the garage was filled with people.

Fisher huddled in the line, tightly pursing his lips to suppress the tension welling up in his chest.

The deputy company commander, wearing an overcoat, stood at the very front.

"Fifteen minutes ago, the South District was attacked, and insurgents took hostages, resulting in five deaths and two injuries."

"They are currently fleeing along the south side of the industrial zone," he said.

"The higher command ordered my company to cooperate with the 7th Military Police Platoon to carry out the blockade and interception mission."

"Two people will remain on standby in both the third shift, car number three and the fourth shift, car number three."

"The target license plate number has been issued. Once confirmed, fire and remove it without delay."

A gentle breeze swept through the barracks, causing the flagpole to make intermittent metallic clanging sounds.

Soon, Fisher started running with the team.

He leaped onto the car in a few steps, completely ignoring the pain in his shoulders from the straps.

The engines roared, and it quickly rejoined the departure queue.

Fisher was wearing gloves, but his knuckles still felt cold, and a mix of excitement and anxiety welled up inside him.

"Don't stare at the gun."

A familiar voice came from the other end; it was Abel.

He was 24 years old, in his third year of service, and had participated in the clearing and suppression missions on the southeastern border.

"The more nervous you are, the more your hands will shake, and you'll definitely miss when you actually fire."

Abel grinned. "Do you know what they call new recruits?"

Fisher shook his head.

“Leerschütze,” Abel whispered.

"I ran out of bullets in the first round on the battlefield, and ended up hiding behind cover, trembling, waiting to get headshot by the enemy."

"When the people went to clean it up, their pants were wet and their brains were splattered all over the floor."

Fisher swallowed hard, turned his head away, and remained silent.

Abel had intended to lighten the mood, but seeing that he took the joke seriously, he suddenly felt bored.

“You’re lucky. This isn’t the front line; the target is just one vehicle,” he said after a moment’s thought.

"Nine times out of ten, it won't be our turn to fire."

As soon as he finished speaking, the driver suddenly turned around and said, "Nine hundred meters to go."

Upon hearing this, the deputy squad leader glanced at them and said, "Everyone, get ready."

The city's searchlights were long gone.

Darkness silently enveloped the convoy.

Only the yellowish beams of light remained, groping their way inch by inch toward the unknown boundaries.

Katelyl gripped the handle tightly, her knuckles turning white.

With each sharp turn, her body swayed violently with the seat, her shoulders went numb from the impact, and her breathing became increasingly rapid.

"We should turn west," she shouted. "There are more people there, and the terrain is more complex; we can shake them off!"

no respond.

Zhou Yi stared silently at the fork in the road ahead, then slammed on the gas pedal.

The engine roared and screamed as it forced its way into the intersection.

The sounds of pursuit from behind grew increasingly intense.

Ketterlell suppressed her fear and looked back, her heart sinking suddenly.

It's an armored vehicle.

The headlights cut through the night, like a giant beast searching for its prey.

"Are you crazy? We should hide, not run out to our deaths!"

Zhou Yi gripped the steering wheel with one hand and pulled a pistol from behind his waist with the other, throwing it onto her lap.

“Be prepared,” he said.

“Listen, I don’t know what you’re up to,” Katelyl tried to remain calm.

"But you're leading us down a dead end."

“There are alleys in the city that offer some cover, so we might still have a chance, but you’re heading towards—” She looked out the window again and realized they had reached the edge of the city.

Beyond that factory area, there's a whole open space.

There were no buildings, no people, only hills and mud.

A continuous roar came from high above, as if something was flying low and patrolling.

"Are you crazy!" Cattel felt like she was about to faint.

"They will open fire. They definitely will!"

"Don't worry," Zhou Yi casually reassured him, "They're still far away, so their angle is limited."

Further away, there was a light moving.

It appears to be another convoy, flanking from the side, intending to encircle them.

Zhou Yi showed no surprise, simply shifting gears again and then accelerating rapidly, the tires almost skidding the ground.

Ketterle kept his head very low, afraid of being hit by a whistling bullet.

"Where are you going?!" she screamed hoarsely. "There's nothing left if you go any further—are you crazy?"

This time, Zhou Yi responded to her question.

“I need to get them all on track.”

"what?!"

“I said—” Zhou Yi pulled hard with his right hand, “I need them all to come up here.”

The car veered off course, cutting into the ditch.

As the front wheels came off the ground, there was a loud bang, and the chassis slammed hard against the rocks.

The debris struck the bottom of the car, producing a series of piercing noises.

Katelyl cried out in surprise, her body was violently thrown to the left, and the pistol almost slipped from her hand.

"Fire now," Zhou Yi said.

"You want me to—open fire?"

"Yes, left, right, up, anywhere is fine, the important thing is to make them hear us."

Kate Lyle hesitated for two seconds.

Then, she gritted her teeth, took a deep breath, poked out the gun, and pulled the trigger with trembling hands.

The bullets tore through the darkness, revealing a few flashes of light.

Sure enough, within seconds, the communication channel was instantly full, with rapid, overlapping voices.

More support arrived.

Zhou Yi listened to the commotion and looked in the rearview mirror again.

The moonlight was shrouded by thick clouds.

The pursuing convoy was restricted and now completely clustered behind them, with narrow roads and sparse cover.

It's close enough.

Zhou Yi slammed on the brakes, and the entire car slid sideways, almost flipping over.

Ignoring Ketterle who was being thrown forward again, he quickly turned off the headlights and his mind raced.

The next second—

A colossal object, approximately 127 meters long and 32 meters wide, appeared out of thin air.

It was like a fantasy coming to life.

Without warning.

There was no buffer at all.

Nearly three thousand tons of metal seemed to be "embedded" in the earth out of thin air, carrying irresistible kinetic energy, squeezing and crushing everything.

The expelled air exploded, and dust, sand, and shockwaves swept in all directions like raging waves.

The swarm of vehicles had no time to react before being crushed beneath it.

Twisted and deformed, even the remains became indistinguishable.

Then, the thing suddenly disappeared again, as if it were just an illusion.

Everything returned to deathly silence.

Only scattered groans drifted in the night wind.

Finally, Zhou Yi couldn't help but laugh.

He turned around, intending to retrieve his pistol, but found that the woman had fainted at some point.

The corpse with its brains splattered lay beside her, covered in blood, its origin unclear.
