Chapter 210 Σ( ° △ °)︴
Less than half a minute later, the passenger door was opened.
“Darling, I knew you’d remember me,” Sasha said, pushing the man inside.
The fat, dark-skinned man was thrilled, but as soon as he sat down, he noticed a familiar-looking Asian man in front of him.
He instinctively turned his head, only to find a pistol pressed against his ribs.
Immediately afterwards, Colin leaned over from the back seat and grabbed him by the neck:
"Don't get excited, Tony, let's talk about money."
The fat man was stunned for a full three seconds before he realized what had happened, and he immediately trembled with fear.
"What...what do you want?"
"I...I don't know anything."
As soon as he finished speaking, a pungent smell of urine wafted out.
Zhou Yi frowned and rolled down the car window a little.
Colin looked very angry.
"Remember what happened last week?" he gritted his teeth. "Some sucker wearing sunglasses had a tripod in his bag. Remember?"
The fat man's eyes darted around, as if he was trying to play dumb, but he couldn't suppress his fear.
He opened his mouth, about to deny it, but before he could utter a word, he felt a sharp pain in his chest.
"It's you! You two Canadians are in cahoots!!"
The fat man couldn't keep up the act any longer; he arched his back and let out a shrill scream.
Upon hearing this, Colin couldn't help but let out a cold laugh.
"Now that I remember, it's fucking amazing."
As he spoke, he reached out his right hand and groped inside the man's clothes.
The fat, dark-skinned man wailed, but still tried to argue his way out of it:
"Sir, I...I didn't mean to, but...but your money is gone! It's really gone!"
"There are still two hundred left! Take them all if you want."
Sasha leaned back in her chair, arms crossed over her chest, and remained motionless.
at this time--
Gunshots were fired.
The fat man's body trembled, his head tilted to the right, and he slammed into the car window.
Blood mixed with brain matter exploded, splattering across the entire pane of glass.
The carriage suddenly became eerily quiet.
Sasha stared wide-eyed, bewildered at the corpse beside her.
Two seconds later, she suddenly let out a high-pitched scream.
"Are you crazy?! You killed someone! He... he fucking paid for it!!"
Colin was stunned. He looked up at Zhou Yi and asked, "Damn, why did you kill him?"
Zhou Yi shrugged. "Didn't you want me to fulfill your wish? You're welcome."
He paused, glanced at the rearview mirror, and added, "And we still have three seconds."
In the reflection, a group of uniformed security guards were jogging closer from a distance.
He moved cautiously and looked tense.
For them, the painful experience of 37 years ago is still vivid in their minds.
This time, before anyone could prepare, Zhou Yi stepped on the gas.
The tires instantly started smoking from friction, and the car lurched forward.
Sasha hadn't fastened her seatbelt yet when she was thrown back into her seat. She then lunged at the car door, desperately pulling on the handle, trying to jump out.
"Stop the car! Stop the car! Let me out!" she screamed hysterically.
"You guys aren't journalists at all!!"
Colin reacted a beat faster than her, drawing his gun, loading it, and pulling the trigger without hesitation.
"boom!"
The bullet pierced his neck, and blood gushed out, spraying from the artery and landing on the seat.
Sasha twitched twice, making indistinct gasping sounds in her throat, and quickly collapsed.
The car fell silent again.
The viscous liquid dripped down, making a "plop, plop" sound.
Colin looked down at the nearly naked corpse and suddenly sighed heavily.
"Now look what happened, the car is full of blood, urine, and brain matter."
"And a broken heart." He touched his chest and made the sign of the cross.
"Lord, accept your fallen yet sensual daughter. Though she is greedy, she has never betrayed you. Amen."
"When did you become a believer?" Zhou Yi asked casually, staring ahead.
Colin clicked his tongue: "Ever since I discovered that 'Lord' is more effective than 'I'm sorry'."
After he finished speaking, he continued to put on a compassionate expression and made the sign of the cross again.
"Stop pretending," Zhou Yi said, taking a drag of his cigarette. "You don't even know her real name."
“How could that be?” Colin retorted seriously.
"Her name is... uh... Ajo, Abiru, Nabiru, who knows? All the local bitches have the same name."
At this point, he amused himself and burst out laughing.
"What did she just say? Reporters?" Zhou Yi turned his head. "You said we're reporters?"
“Of course.” Colin leaned back in his chair.
"The Canadian Polar Daily is investigating 'border violence and forgotten people' in Africa."
“You’re the photographer, I’m the copy editor, and Sasha is the special advisor.”
He scratched his head, looking at the still-bleeding corpse, "Although she's 'retired for life' now."
“You really should write novels,” Zhou Yi said.
"Who says otherwise? Kosovo, Ramla, Fallujah, damn it, I have a whole bunch of messy things to write about."
Colin sighed and took a bottle of liquor out of his pocket.
He unscrewed the cap, took two sips, and then touched the woman's face with pity: "God bless my mouth, it only tells the truth."
Zhou Yi rolled the window down a little more. Then, he lit his third cigarette.
The vehicle continued north, leaving Cayando.
After abandoning the two bodies, they drove along a gravel road into the wilderness, avoiding various military police and UN convoys.
The communication signal is intermittent.
The sun rises in the east, crosses the sparse mountain ridges, and eventually sinks into the western bushes.
"I still think Congo is interesting, at least I can hang out with you."
Colin pulled up his pants and casually tossed the plastic water bottle away.
"Guess where I was six months ago? South Sudan. The outskirts of Juba, fucking."
"Who contacted you this time?" Zhou Yi asked.
“Old acquaintances, the ‘advisors’ from Washington.” Colin grinned. “I’ve forgotten the company names, it’s some kind of bullshit, some oil, metals and energy joint exploration project.”
"After all these years, it's still the same old method: sign a resource protection contract and then assign tasks down layer by layer."
"And then you agreed?"
"I'm broke, bro." Colin shook his head, finally sober. "What about you? Didn't you sign a contract too?"
Zhou Yi didn't answer, but simply changed his cigarette, tapped the lighter against his thigh, and lit it.
Night fell, and fog began to rise ahead.
When Zhou Yi could no longer hold on, Colin took over the steering wheel and continued driving along the satellite navigation.
The two worked together and crossed Kirima the next day, officially entering the transition zone of Ituri.
"The village ahead is where you change your identity."
Colin, lying in the dried bloodstains on the back seat, said, "The fat guy who was my contact said his wife is about to give birth, so he's in a good mood."
Near the destination, several shirtless boys sat on the doorstep peeling mangoes, while dogs barked in the distance.
Zhou Yi gripped the steering wheel while lifting the sun visor and looking at the grocery store across the street.
“That one,” Colin pointed to the middle-aged man in a basketball jersey with a beer belly, “that’s ‘Fatty’.”
Zhou Yi pulled over to the side of the road.
The next second, Colin opened the car door with a big smile, walked forward, and extended his right hand.
“Sapphires aren’t enough,” he said in broken Swahili. “Do you have beryl?”
The fat man glanced at him, said nothing, and simply nodded toward the small house next to him.
A few minutes later, Zhou Yi received a photocopy of a pass that read "Medical Volunteer".
“Welcome to the adults’ playground,” Colin said.
After refueling, the engine restarted.
Amidst the rising smoke from the chimneys, rain was falling from the horizon.
