Chapter 187 Labor Dispatch Has No Human Rights
1:03 AM.
George Washington University Hospital.
Not far away, two DCPD officers on night duty sat in their car, barely daring to breathe.
Tommy, in the passenger seat, was deathly pale, staring nervously at the glass door.
“I fucking can’t understand it,” he said. “How could it be like that?”
His partner, Joseph, did not respond.
The man's lips were pursed, one hand rested on the steering wheel, and the other hand remained firmly on his pistol.
“A whole mountain of corpses.” Tommy’s shirt still had some vomit on it.
“That woman hanging upside down is a congresswoman; I recognize her.”
“Catherine liked her a lot and even attended her campaign rallies.”
"And the man in the very middle. I couldn't see his face clearly, but I had a sense of familiarity with him."
At this moment, Joseph spoke up, his voice hoarse: "Don't overthink it, the boss only said to wait on the outside."
Tommy looked at him but didn't reply.
A few seconds later, he looked at the hospital's main entrance again.
Why did they arrive so quickly?
Joseph looked up out the windshield.
Three black SUVs without license plates and with their engines off were parked on the side of the road.
"We received the police report at 11:57," Tommy muttered to himself. "We arrived at almost the same time as DHS."
"That's too fast."
"It doesn't make sense in terms of timing at all."
Joseph's jaw tightened, as if he wanted to speak but held back.
Seeing this, Tommy simply changed his question: "Aren't you curious?"
"Aren't you curious about the identities of the other victims?"
"Those injured people are clearly the murderers."
"When the nurse tried to verify the information, she was taken away on the spot."
"Even we were kicked out."
"This is not right, this is very wrong."
Finally, Joseph slowly turned his head, his eyes showing no anger, only exhaustion.
"Stop asking," he said.
Tommy was stunned.
Joseph looked at him and repeated earnestly, "Really, Tommy, please don't ask anymore."
The air hung still for a few seconds.
An inexplicable unease crept into the car.
"Ok."
Tommy slowly looked away.
His calves were twitching incessantly, as fast as his heartbeat.
Outside the window, yellow sodium lamps were shining.
The surroundings were unusually quiet, unlike any city.
Suddenly, a coyote darted into the bushes, creating a faint commotion.
Then--
"Click."
The back door was opened.
Tommy turned his head sharply, only to have his neck suddenly grabbed.
His left arm stretched out horizontally, precisely locking his artery with just the right amount of force.
This prevented him from making a sound, but kept him conscious.
At the same time, a silenced pistol was already firmly pressed against Joseph's temple.
"Don't force me to shoot," the man behind him said coldly.
A strong stench of blood wafted through the air.
Joseph froze, his hands raised high, his breathing rapid.
“Now, left hand, unholster your guns,” the man continued to command.
"Slow down, don't make me misunderstand."
Joseph hesitated for a moment, but then silently complied.
The gunman had excellent control of the angle, leaving him no chance to fight back.
"Now, put the walkie-talkies, badges, and weapons on the center console."
Tommy let out a groan, his fingers trembling as he choked.
"Stop talking nonsense, you are too."
The man tightened the belt even more, and Tommy almost fainted. He quickly mustered his strength and began to move.
A minute later, two belts, two Glock pistols, a walkie-talkie, and two police badges were found piled up inside the car.
"Take off your clothes too."
Who the hell are you?
"Take it off." The gun barrel pressed even tighter against his ear, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Joseph had no choice but to slowly take off his uniform shirt.
He glanced at Tommy beside him; the other was on the verge of collapse, breathing erratically, tears welling in his eyes.
"What exactly do you want to do?"
"Which floor and area were those people sent for emergency treatment on? Were they armed?"
"."
Having finally understood the man's intentions, Joseph chose to remain silent.
He knew that speaking out meant death, and remaining silent also meant death.
Even if it wasn't the gunman, there were still those federal agents.
But Tommy couldn't hold on any longer.
With death looming close, his throat throbbing and his lungs burning, he had no time to think about anything else.
"Third floor, D section, innermost part"
He spoke haltingly, his gaze unfocused, his hands instinctively reaching for the arms that were strangling his neck:
"Alternating patrols. DHS personnel are armed."
As soon as he finished speaking, a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
Zhou Yi pulled a dagger from under his arm without anyone noticing.
A straight-backed, short blade, about six inches long.
The next second, the knife tip passed over the jaw and inserted below the Adam's apple, severing the left common carotid artery.
Crimson liquid was instantly sprayed onto the center console.
Tommy couldn't make a sound. Blood and foam mixed with bubbles surged out. His body twitched a few times and then went limp.
Joseph turned his head in shock, but before he could react, Zhou Yi swung the gun handle in his right hand and smashed it into Joseph's right temple.
A wave of dizziness washed over him, and the dagger pierced below his collarbone, penetrating his chest cavity and pericardium.
Breathing has stopped.
The car fell silent.
Zhou Yi sheathed his sword with his left hand, wiped the bloodstains with the corpse's underwear, and put it back in its sheath.
Then, he quickly stripped naked and knelt in the confined space to avoid exposure.
Then, he picked up Joseph's uniform, put it on, and casually tore off the name tag and threw it into the storage compartment.
The two corpses were dragged to the back and placed in a sleeping position.
The head falls to the side, the shoulder rests against the window, the arms hang naturally, and the legs are slightly curled up.
After doing all this, Zhou Yi lowered the brim of his hat and walked quickly along the edge of the parking lot toward the back door of the hospital.
There, two blue and white motion-sensor lights were installed.
A seal was affixed to the metal door: "Authorized entry only".
Two private security guards stood nearby, armed with guns and wearing armbands with the letters G4S on them.
They were all under thirty years old, but they all looked tense.
After all, the strangeness they witnessed tonight was far beyond their comprehension.
"Stop, sir."
The person on the left immediately raised their hand to stop the stranger as they approached.
Zhou Yi stopped and stood five meters away, took off his police hat, revealing a tired yet calm face.
"DCPD, come and handle the process."
The man shook his head. "We received instructions that the closed area is only open to the DHS registration team; local units are not authorized to enter."
"Do you have any documents?" Zhou Yi countered.
"Uh, no, it was my supervisor who called." The man lowered his voice.
Zhou Yi nodded slightly, as if he had already guessed it.
"Do you know who is responsible for transporting the wounded?"
The two looked at each other but said nothing.
“Our people were detained first, and now they’ve all suddenly been transferred to DHS’s jurisdiction. They’re refusing to send back information. Don’t you think there’s something wrong with how this is being done?”
"I don't know," the other person said somewhat guiltily. "We're just on duty according to the lockdown schedule."
“I know you don’t understand,” Zhou Yi said calmly, “but you have to understand that without a handover form, without numbers, and without on-site logs, if a problem really occurs, what will you use to take responsibility?”
The man awkwardly shut his mouth, unsure of what to say.
Because he also knew that the whole thing was eerie.
As the ambulances came and went, everyone remained silent, as if facing a formidable enemy.
“Listen,” Zhou Yi spoke up again at the opportune moment, “I’m not here to cause trouble.”
"The bureau needs documents, and it also needs to know who is ultimately in charge of those individuals."
"This is not only my responsibility, but also concerns your safety."
The man hesitated for a long time, then sighed and quietly asked, "Are you alone?"
"one person."
"Go inside, but don't go west." The man stepped aside and whispered, "We'll take a record."
"Of course." Zhou Yi nodded and put his hat back on. "Thank you for your cooperation."
With a click, the access control door loosened.
He didn't turn around and strode into the hospital's logistics corridor.
