Chapter 143 White Bearded Old Man
Chapter 143 White Bearded Old Man
The sky is bright.
The air was thick with the stench of blood.
Several ambulances were parked side by side in front of the police station, their lights flashing alternately.
Dozens of corpses wrapped in white sheets were lifted onto stretchers and carried out one after another.
Blood dripped, leaving dark red marks on the cement floor.
Further away, a young policeman stood ramrod straight, his lips trembling.
After taking several deep breaths, he still couldn't hold it in and bent over to vomit.
Natalie stood outside the police line, staring blankly at everything before her.
"This is fucking amazing." After a long while, she exclaimed softly.
Zhou Yi squatted beside the telephone pole, completely oblivious to his own masterpiece.
Seeing that the man ignored her, Natalie sighed, picked up her camera again, and took another picture of the scene.
"Not even a little bit of feeling?" she asked. "Dozens of lives, gone just like that."
Zhou Yi remained noncommittal, simply taking out a cigarette from his pocket and slowly lighting it.
Natalie clicked her tongue, then squatted down, close to the ground, trying to capture a more stunning low-angle shot.
After taking the photos, she stood up and dusted off her pants.
"do you know?"
She turned her head to look at him, "I was still holding onto the idea that I was mentally unstable last night."
"but now--"
As Natalie spoke, she waved to the officers who were walking away, "Listening to their curses, I finally realized it."
"decide what?"
"I'm certain there's some kind of supernatural power within you."
"Otherwise, how come there wasn't even half a shell casing found at the scene?"
Natalie's eyes gleamed with excitement.
"What exactly are you? A ghost? A demon? Or one of God's forsaken children?"
“Don’t waste time,” Zhou Yi said. “Do what you should be doing.”
Upon hearing this, Natalie's expression froze, and she pulled her phone out of her pocket.
The wind blew in from the street corner.
She finally pressed the dial button.
"beep--"
"beep--"
"beep--"
A full half minute passed before the call was answered.
It's Christopher Hollen.
"what's up."
"Blair sent men to kill me."
Natalie stared at the crowds entering and leaving the police station, and at the bloodstains that quickly became blurred under the trampling.
"In my own apartment."
This time, Hollen didn't hesitate and quickly replied, "You handle it yourself."
Natalie listened and laughed out loud.
"Don't worry, I've already taken care of it."
She said slowly, "Now there's only a corpse left, and blood everywhere."
A sneer came from the other end of the phone: "Very well, you're here to waste my time?"
“Quite the opposite.” Natalie switched the phone to her left hand.
"Let me remind you that you should be smarter at this critical juncture."
Hollen was silent for a moment.
Then, he replied slowly and deliberately, "I don't have time for your hallucinations."
Outside the police station, ambulances finally started arriving one after another, heading north.
Natalie's gaze followed them closely as she whispered:
Whether you admit it or not, it doesn't matter.
"Anyway, tell Blair to stay away from me, that son of a bitch."
"If you still have even the slightest expectation for the election two weeks from now."
"Are you threatening me?"
"Whatever you think."
“What a pity.” Hollen paused, then sighed, “Blair didn’t shut you up completely.”
“Yes,” Natalie sighed. “Your people never know how to clean up a mess.”
Hollen was angered by the repeated provocations: "Who do you think you are?"
Natalie turned her head and saw Zhou Yi still leaning against the telephone pole smoking.
She smiled silently, then said:
"one person."
"A living person."
"And, thank you to new media—a voice that still has a place."
"You overestimate yourself," Hollen commented dismissively.
"The death of a madwoman will not change anything."
“Perhaps,” Natalie said softly, averting her gaze. “Perhaps not.” “But you know very well—”
She paused for a moment, as if giving the other person time to think.
"With the election approaching, even a loose screw can render the entire machine unusable."
At this point, Hollen finally lost his patience:
"Stop talking nonsense and get straight to the point—what are your demands?"
Natalie was equally assertive: "Don't worry, I'm not here to beg for anything."
"All you need to do is ensure that no more mentally ill people break into my home before the ballots are announced."
"."
Silence fell on the other end of the phone.
Natalie knew he was weighing his options.
Finally, as she expected, Hollen conceded:
"Wipe the blood off your body."
"I don't want to see any trace of it."
“Don’t worry,” Natalie said. “I learned this when I was ten years old.”
The person on the other end of the phone simply grunted in response, ignoring the implication in her words.
However, just before Hollen was about to hang up, Natalie spoke again:
"By the way, there's one more thing."
The man said nothing.
But she knew he was listening.
"next time--"
"If you really decide to get rid of me."
"Send someone more professional."
"Don't make me feel like even death is so boring again, like last night."
After a full ten seconds, Hollen coldly uttered a few words:
"You're still so naive."
Snapped.
The phone hangs up.
"beep--"
"beep--"
"beep--"
All that remained in my ears was a series of beeps.
Natalie took her phone back and stuffed it into the inside pocket of her jacket.
At this moment, the sky is turning white, and the city is awakening in the hazy mist.
She muttered a couple of curses under her breath.
Then, he quickly moved closer to Zhou Yi.
"The matter is resolved. When do you plan to kill these bastards?"
"I'll show you the way."
Zhou Yi casually stubbed out his cigarette and turned to walk towards an inconspicuous car not far away.
"Wait until the time is right."
"Taking immediate action now will only backfire."
Natalie quickly followed.
"So, you mean November 7th? Election Day?"
Zhou Yi glanced at her sideways: "Not entirely, it depends on how the situation develops."
"However, if saying this will make you feel better, the first target is Blair."
Natalie looked surprised.
"You already have a plan?!"
"Of course, I had a revelation dream last night," Zhou Yi replied casually.
“An old man with a white beard told me to start with her.”
Natalie was stunned.
Immediately, I couldn't help but laugh out loud, and my mood lightened considerably.
What else did he tell you?
"He said I had to make a big enough fuss."
"And, I might need your help."
"That sounds like a great honor."
"From now on, should you call me Saint Watts?"
“It’s not impossible,” Zhou Yi said, getting into the car. “He even left you a message.”
"Really? What did he leave behind?"
"He said--"
Zhou Yi bent down and lit the fire.
"—Let's talk more when we get to the bar."
