Chapter 65 Dragon

Chapter 65 - Dragon

Because she hadn't slept for too long during the final part of the dream, Yvette slept soundly until the afternoon of the next day in the RV back in Puppet Town, before waking up with drowsy eyes and letting out a long yawn.

It was a chilly afternoon, the late autumn sky was gloomy, and the pale sunlight fell on the withered leaves on the ground, carrying a gloomy feeling that made one feel listless.

When Yvette got out of the car, she saw the Elder brewing steaming tea, sitting on a bench at the entrance of the town, gazing at the distant horizon. If you disregarded his old, mechanical body, he looked quite like a lonely old man in a human village, every move exuding the vicissitudes of time.

"You got up a little late today, Miss Yvette. Is this your secret to cultivation?" The Grand Elder raised a teacup to Yvette, then poured the hot tea over himself, indicating he was drinking it heartily. Although the scene was abstract, Yvette had completely adapted and was used to it.

“Almost,” Yvette said. “Elder, I’m about to leave.”

"Are you leaving now?"

"Ah."

"I'll go and inform everyone." The elder quickly stood up.

“No need. I only notified you because I didn’t want to see that kind of scene,” Yvette said calmly, shaking her head.

“Alright… I understand what you mean, Miss Yvette.” A sigh came from the elder’s loudspeaker. He said with a long sigh, “Since you wish your departure to be less grand, I will respect your wishes. I wish you a safe journey. In our small kingdom, it may take more than ten years for a foreign visitor to come. I hope that one day I can see you again and hear your stories from your journey.”

“I definitely will… Also, please don’t forget to keep an eye out for that blonde girl.”

"Haha, don't worry, I have a good memory, I won't forget."

"Thank you, I'll go then."

"Bon Voyage!"

"See you."

After a brief farewell, Yvette didn't return to town. Instead, she got into the driver's seat and drove the RV in a distant direction. That was her planned next destination: another metropolitan site within the New Eden United States.

Looking in the rearview mirror at the elder still standing at the village entrance, clumsily waving goodbye to her, Yvette's dark red eyes showed no sadness or joy, no emotion whatsoever.

She was never truly sure whether the emotional fluctuations of the puppets, who were dedicated to mimicking humans, were genuine or merely powerful acting skills. This suspicion permeated every moment of her life in the puppet town, and instead of fading with time, it grew stronger.

But perhaps, she will find the answer to this question during her future travels.

……

Yvette's direction of travel is the northern part of Kuroshio Island. In her travel plan, she will travel from top to bottom, completing the northern, central and southern parts of Kuroshio Island in turn before making any plans for the next round of crossing the sea.

The north is naturally relatively cold, especially since Kuroshio Island is located in the Northern Hemisphere. With late autumn approaching winter, snow began to fall from the sky after only a short distance, and even the alien creatures on the road became increasingly scarce, as if they were hibernating.

As she drove into a stretch of rolling mountains, she parked her RV beside a snow-covered forest. Then, she picked up the repair fluid she had brought from her dream and began to paint the RV to prevent it from being damaged beyond repair in this confined area.

It must be said that Lintui Biotechnology's material repair fluid is truly amazing. After spraying and drying, the coated area only has a semi-transparent hard film, yet its hardness is astonishingly high. If it were an attack by a low-level aberration, it probably wouldn't even leave a scratch. After finishing her work, it was already getting dark. She went back to the RV and slept for a while, only planning to set off again early the next morning.

Before setting off, however, she planned to see if there were any wild animals nearby. If she could hunt some rabbits or something, and make some roasted game, it would effectively increase her travel happiness.

She opened the car door and wandered around in the snow-covered mountains. She didn't see any wild rabbits, but she did see a few gray wolves.

But they were unusually wary, as if they mistook Yvette for a mutant. Seeing a slender, silver-haired girl, they showed no aggression whatsoever, instead running far away, which was surprisingly cowardly.

Yvette had no interest in hunting gray wolves; she might have wanted to pet them, but seeing that the pack dared not approach, she sighed in resignation and gave up. However, just as she was about to set off peacefully, a sudden, loud motorcycle roar approaching from afar, accompanied by a woman's piercing scream, caught her attention.

She turned her head and saw a familiar-looking blue-haired girl riding a motorcycle suddenly rush out from the opposite ridge, speeding down the snowy slope, screaming in pain. Even more outrageous, not long after she rushed down the slope, a...

dragon? !

Yvette stood still, taking a closer look, and realized it was a dragon—a small black dragon with a wingspan of about ten meters and two horns on its head. Flames billowed from its mouth, constantly spewing fire at the fleeing Ice Rain, who, relying on her motorcycle skills, was in grave danger, seemingly on the verge of death.

Yvette frowned, somewhat confused about what was going on.

Although archaeological research on the origins of civilizations has proven that dragons lived on Earth at least 30,000 years ago, with even clear skeletal fossils discovered, making it seem like irrefutable evidence, the question remains: this is a post-apocalyptic world, where humanity has been extinct for less than a thousand years. Where did this black dragon come from?

Could this be a special evolutionary aberration that simply looks like a dragon?

Or perhaps... someone who traveled from another time?

She immediately took flight, heading towards the direction of the icy rain. Just as a ball of flame was about to land on the puppet girl, she summoned a simple defensive spell made of water elements from afar, using a water shield to completely intercept the flame.

This sudden turn of events startled the black dragon's pursuit. It let the magical girl escape on her motorcycle, then turned its cold gaze to Yvette, before opening its mouth without hesitation and exhaling again.

Yvette stood still, and the red runes quickly spread to her entire body, covering even her black dress.

After bathing in the flames, she stood unharmed in mid-air, hearing the black dragon let out an angry roar.

This seemed like a clear sign of attack, instinctively raising one's guard and preparing for a full-scale defense. But just as Yvette was getting ready to continue the attack, the black dragon suddenly turned around, flapping its wings and charging along the ridge—the roar from before was nothing but a bluff; its true purpose was to escape!
But... that won't do. As the black dragon gradually disappeared into the distance, Yvette narrowed her eyes, and a blue runic ring lit up around her, from which a strong current of cold air rushed out and swept towards the direction of the black dragon.

The Frost Bullet is no longer confined to the form of a bullet; it has gained more versatility, and calling it "Frost Control" might be more appropriate. The same applies to the other spells; after all, the entire structure has been reset, essentially a programmer rewriting a mountain of code. The only connection might be the shared elemental properties.

In the pure white chill, the black dragon, which hadn't flown far, immediately stiffened and plummeted straight down into the forest below, snapping several saplings and sending up a cloud of snow dust. When Yvette landed in front of it, she could clearly hear its screams and howls.

"Damn it, how can there be such a powerful human mage in this godforsaken place... and a female mage at that... Could she be that evil god? Could she really be that evil witch? It's all over, it's all over..."

It can actually speak human language, and it's even standard Glorious Language. It really is a black dragon that has traveled through time... Upon hearing the familiar words "evil god," Yvette's lips slowly curled upwards, revealing a slight, ambiguous smile.
