Chapter 139, Section 138: Lant and the Silver Witch
Chapters 139-138- Lant and the Silver Witch
Unlike the aurora I'd seen on Ish Island before, this time the aurora appeared at the far end of the coastline, as dim as an old tungsten filament lamp with a faulty connection, flickering on and off, as if it would vanish at any moment.
Although Yvette immediately sped off on the wind, taking several tens of minutes to reach the area, the aurora borealis dissipated halfway there, revealing the silver moon and an even more dazzling starry sky.
However, she didn't feel regretful. After all, she wasn't ready to step into the other world safely. She had come all the way here mainly to see if there were any transmigrators from the other world that she could help rescue, so that she wouldn't fall into the sea and be eaten by the mutants as soon as she landed.
The cool moonlight spilled onto the sea, and using the effects of water magic, Yvette landed on the sea without a single drop of water wetting her skirt.
As she walked, she looked around but found nothing; only the sea, reflecting the starlight, stretched out to the horizon.
She walked for a few more minutes, and suddenly, a floating dark shadow several hundred meters away caught her attention. When she got closer, the sight that came into view made her slightly startled.
This is a boy covered in scars.
Crimson blood stained his clothes, which were riddled with tears, revealing deep, bone-revealing wounds beneath. Even more astonishing was his unnatural pale purple skin and the dark, tattoo-like markings on his forehead, making him completely unlike any human being Yvette knew.
In that instant, the name of a race flashed through her mind.
—The Demon Race.
She remembered that among the otherworldly human races that Dugrabi had introduced her to, only the demons from the Demon Abyss Continent possessed such striking pale purple skin and dark magical markings. Although they were also a human race, they were also part of the demon race, worshipping the Demon King as their supreme ruler, and were hostile to the human alliance of the Eastern Continent.
Well, if this were a human from another world, and he saw a heavily injured demon boy floating on the sea, he would probably kill him immediately to prevent future trouble.
But Yvette was not a human from another world, so after a brief moment of surprise, she immediately used wind magic to lift the seriously injured and unconscious demon boy and decided to take him back to the manor for treatment. She also wanted to find out from him what the situation in the other world had become after a hundred years, and whether she could get any information about Rosalind and Dugrabi.
……
Under the dim night sky, flames licked at the rickety roof beams, the thick stench of blood mixed with the pungent smell of burning filled the nostrils, and in the ears were shrill screams and even more grating, sinister laughs of demons.
Father, mother, sister... one familiar figure after another fell in the splattering blood, and the executioner who carried out this massacre was a towering abyss demon with curved ram horns on its head and tattered fleshy wings on its back.
He cowered in the shadows of the corner, his teeth chattering with fear. Suddenly, a hideous face covered in pustules darted out from under the table where he was hiding, laughing maniacally, "Found you, you little bug!"
"what--!!!"
Lant sat bolt upright in bed with a start, his clothes soaked in cold sweat. But what immediately stunned him was that he wasn't facing his hometown, a town engulfed in flames and littered with corpses, as he remembered. Instead, he found a surprisingly clean, tidy, and warm log cabin-style room. The soft blankets had slipped down to his waist, revealing a comfortable bed beneath him, so soft that he wondered if he was dreaming.
He pinched his cheek hard, the pain dispelling his daze and bringing him back to his senses.
Then, he threw off the covers and jumped out of bed, finding himself draped in an unfamiliar white robe, while his original clothes remained underneath. He breathed a sigh of relief, but then noticed that the tattered clothes, along with his body, were much cleaner, as if someone had wiped away the bloodstains with a damp towel while he was unconscious.
What surprised him even more was that all his injuries had healed! Not a single scar remained on his skin, as if those wounds had never appeared at all!
What exactly is going on?
Was he saved by someone? But what kind of being could heal his wounds so quickly, without leaving a trace?
Lant was shocked. After thinking for a while, he did not open the door rashly, but cautiously walked to the window and looked outside.
Outside the window, heavy snowflakes were falling silently, turning the world into a vast expanse of pure white.
A chill ran through him. He suddenly remembered that in his memory, the season on the mainland should be early autumn. Moreover, his hometown was located in the south-central part of the mainland, with a warm climate. Even in winter, it was rare to see snow, let alone such a heavy blizzard. Where was he? In the northern part of the mainland?
Thinking of this, he began to recall the last few minutes before he lost consciousness. He then remembered that after escaping, he had wandered in the wilderness for a day, starving, when he saw the aurora in the sky and a chasm in front of him. With nowhere else to go, he crashed into it.
and so……
Did I succeed?
Have we arrived at that legendary, mythical land?
But if it really is that place, shouldn't the scene before us be even more barren and desolate than the Demon Abyss Continent? Why is it not only not like that, but even somewhat picturesque?
Suppressing his confusion and bewilderment, Lant walked to the door, tiptoed to the entrance, and pushed it open. He saw that the hallway led to a spacious living room, where the firewood in the fireplace crackled and the leaping flames dispelled the chill of the winter night, making the entire room warm and cozy.
The living room was empty. After hesitating for a moment, Lant finally mustered up his courage, walked to the front door of the house, and pushed it open. Soon, a blast of cold air rushed into the room, making him instinctively take two steps back and get goosebumps.
But before he could even be surprised by the bitter cold, a scene that sent chills down his spine suddenly appeared.
Several pale skeletons, with stiff steps, crossed the snow and entered the manor. After a brief inspection, they left, as if carrying out some kind of rigid command.
One of the skeletons, with eerie green soul flames flickering in its eye sockets, swept its empty gaze across the doorway where he stood, but showed no reaction, whether it was because it didn't see him or wasn't interested.
Lant gasped in fright and slammed the door shut. He didn't know why the undead creatures hadn't attacked him, but he was certain that at this moment, he had no choice but to stay in this beautiful house.
With a sigh, Lant decided to investigate the room further when suddenly, a soft footstep came from upstairs.
He instinctively turned around and saw a stunningly beautiful girl with long silver hair calmly walking down the stairs.
Judging from her appearance, the other person is probably around fifteen or sixteen years old, while Lant only looks like a twelve or thirteen-year-old boy because of his tall and upright figure. His real age is less than nine years old, so he should rightfully call her "sister".
But after a few seconds of stunned silence, Lant's expression suddenly changed, and he knelt down on the ground with a thud.
This sudden action caught Yvette off guard. She blinked, wondering if this was a way of thanking her for saving her life, but wasn't it a bit too much?
"Why are you kneeling down?" she decided to ask directly.
"You...you are the witch?" The boy looked up and asked a completely irrelevant question, his voice trembling.
“I am indeed a witch.” Yvette frowned slightly. “But if you’re referring to the ‘Witch of the End,’ then I am not.”
"No! Not the Witch of the End!" The boy's voice suddenly rose, becoming hoarse with excitement. "I wanted to ask, are you Lady 'Silver Witch'?"
"The Silver Witch?" Yvette was a little confused.
“Yes…” The demon boy’s eyes shone brightly as he explained incoherently, “The teacher of the previous Demon King, the reclusive deity of the Land of the End, the ‘Silver Witch’! She was a girl with silver hair and red eyes, and most importantly, I… I have seen your statue, and I am also your follower!”
Yvette was even more confused. What was going on? She had never been to another world before, so how come there were statues and believers?
Can we go any further?
