Chapter 103, Section 102: "Dead Eye" Bryce
Chapter 103-102- "Dead Eye" Bryce
Ocasio didn't know if he was a match for the silver-haired girl wielding the terrifying lightning blade, since the two had never fought each other directly. Based on the available information, his chances of winning were probably less than 20%, so he chose to retreat tactically and meet up with his older brother, "Dead Eye" Bryce.
He felt that as long as he could work together with his older brother, he could quickly take control of the situation.
In order to delay the silver-haired girl's pursuit, he retreated while sending out orders through his communicator, telling his henchmen who were fast asleep on each floor to get up and come to intercept him.
This saved Yvette a lot of trouble. She only needed to slowly go upstairs, and the human traffickers on each floor would come to their deaths on their own initiative. It was simple and worry-free.
……
A few minutes later, upon arriving at the top floor of the "Transfer Center Building" and seeing "Dead Eye" Bryce in the corridor, Ocasio, accompanied by his four henchmen, immediately said seriously, "Boss, there's a special situation!"
"What's going on?" Bryce was slightly surprised. Ocasi usually completed most of the tasks he assigned very well, but now he had failed to capture a little girl who looked like she couldn't even kill a chicken. This was simply unbelievable.
"That's a really strange little girl. She's mastered high-level defensive techniques, at least A-grade! The 'Flame Cannon' attack didn't even have a ripple effect on her, like giving her a bath! It's fucking weird!"
Ocasio's face was grim. He continued, "She also possesses a very powerful area-of-effect attack technique, capable of killing large groups with a single strike... I sensed something was wrong, so I returned without engaging her. This matter will probably require you, brother—no, it requires you, me, and the brothers to go together!"
“Taking a bath in the ‘Flame Cannon’?” Bryce frowned. “That’s definitely a master. Just who is he? A special operations mage from the Federation Special Forces?”
"I don't know, she didn't introduce herself."
“Go wake everyone else up, tell them to wake up and activate all the defense units… I’m here to see what she’s made of,” Bryce said coldly, his metallic eyes flashing red, revealing a fierce glint.
As one of the local business managers of the Ghost Hand Society, Bryce, like Ocasio, was a cautious person. He knew that the neighboring federal government maintained an elite special forces unit composed of cyber mages, each of whom possessed the strength to rank among the top 1 in the mercenary world, and were first-rate experts in both infiltration and assassination.
To guard against this force, he and Ocasio set up many hidden defensive works on the top floor of their residence, to prevent themselves from dying silently in their sleep.
Now it's time to see how these defense units function.
Soon, as some of the white wall plaster was opened, a large number of spellcasting units appeared in the corridor, most of them shaped like cannon barrels, making the top floor look like a heavily guarded military base.
Then, several ceiling panels slid open with a "clatter," releasing several armed shuttles, slightly larger than birds, resembling round shuttles with pointed ends. Several invisible laser beams shot out from the bottom of the shuttles, rapidly cutting through the narrow space below like a spider web.
Because they lack a network, these shuttles are difficult to control, but they all have pre-set patrol routes. Before they are launched, you only need to input the marked enemies into them, and once the patrol starts, these shuttles can fight on their own, which is very convenient.
After both the defense unit and the armed shuttle were activated, Bryce felt a great sense of relief.
He suddenly wondered if he was making a mountain out of a molehill. How powerful could a female mage of unknown skill be? She hadn't even fought Ocassi before; Ocassi had only come up here because he chickened out.
Perhaps in the end, it was just that Ocasio was on edge and scared himself, which led to his current predicament.
"And who isn't a mage?" Bryce thought dismissively, as a runic ring flashed past him.
But unlike a pure mage, he has a defensive force field, a combat prosthetic body, and even an AI combat algorithm in his intelligent core that allows him to entrust his body to the mental core and quickly evade enemy attacks—meaning he doesn't even have a disadvantage in combat experience.
Because of the international warrant for his arrest, he can't do legitimate work. Otherwise, if his skills were in the mercenary world, he would probably be a well-known top figure.
After completing the preparations, Bryce stood at the top of the stairs with his subordinates and waited. After a while, he saw the silver-haired girl holding a lightning blade slowly climbing the stairs. She didn't seem to be there to kill anyone; she seemed to be there for sightseeing.
Instead of rushing into action, Bryce decided to negotiate first. He said coldly, "Female mage, who exactly are you? What is your purpose here?"
He had already heard the dying cries of his underlings, and now seeing the silver-haired girl approaching, he knew exactly what had happened and immediately became extremely alert. "Are you 'Dead Eye' Bryce?" the silver-haired girl asked in a confirming tone, her long eyelashes making her look like a cute high school girl who had wandered off in the wrong direction.
“It’s me,” Bryce said coldly.
"That's good then." The silver-haired girl said, and before Bryce could speak again, she suddenly rushed up to the top floor like lightning, ignoring the automatically firing spellcasting units, and coldly slashed a bolt of lightning at Bryce in front of her!
Foolish! Bryce sneered inwardly, thinking that with his expensive automated defensive force field and a layer of conventional defensive spells covering it, how could he not react to such a low-level surprise attack?
But the next second, his defensive force field was shattered by the lightning blade, breaking into a shower of starlight.
Only because he had an AI program that took over his body and dodged the opponent's continuous attacks, otherwise he would have been seriously injured even if he hadn't died.
Bryce's pupils contracted slightly, shocked. He immediately realized that the lightning blade in his opponent's hand was probably a rare top-level technique, otherwise it would not have been able to break through his defensive force field so easily.
Boom! The scorching air currents mixed with Bryce's disheveled figure as he tumbled backward, his back slamming heavily against the wall on the side with a loud thud.
"Fire!!" Ocasio ordered nervously.
In an instant, the top-floor corridor transformed into a furnace of metal and magic.
The flashes from the cannons merged into one, the shrieking of physical bullets tearing through the air drowned out all other sounds, and various magical beams mingled within, transforming into a storm of magic and metal.
The entire cramped space was vibrating and buzzing. Dust mixed with concrete debris fell from the ceiling, and the air was filled with a pungent smell of smoke.
It must be said that this did cause Yvette some trouble. Her crimson armor is good at resisting elemental attacks, but it is not so good at deflecting kinetic damage, requiring her to use the physical strength of "muscle release" to withstand it.
If the attacks are too dense and mixed with a large amount of physical damage from kinetic attacks, she will not be injured, but she will keep retreating, like a monster being focused by survivors in the zombie mode, baring her teeth and claws as she advances, but her position gets further and further back.
It seems that close-quarters combat is still a bit unrealistic... Yvette thought.
Since the opponent's damage cannot penetrate the Crimson Armor's defense, she can withstand the attacks here for a long time as long as her magic power is not exhausted.
But that was pointless, so she snapped her fingers, and one runic ring after another lit up behind her, as if opening Gilgamesh's royal treasury.
Flames, gales, thunder, frost, and rock projectiles mixed with pulse magic.
More concentrated, larger-scale, and more damaging spells emerged from the rising dust of light, like a sweeping flood, drenching the ten human traffickers and leaving them dazed and disoriented.
"What the hell is this?!" a cyborg cried out in bewilderment and terror.
He didn't know what was behind that patch of particle light and dust that obscured their vision. He only knew that they had an absolute advantage just a few seconds ago. How did the situation suddenly reverse?
Where did all those overwhelming attacks come from? Wasn't there just one person on the other side? Why did they act like an army?
In just a few seconds, several of the underlings were killed. They were relatively poor and couldn't afford expensive defensive force fields, so they used the defective ones that their older brothers had replaced, which would shatter at the slightest touch in such firepower.
Although they knew that with half their bodies hidden in the room and the walls as cover, they couldn't withstand the firepower from the other side, which could blow them up along with the walls!
Seeing this, "Dead Eye" Bryce's heart trembled. He had made full preparations, activating all the defense units and armed shuttles, turning this place into an impregnable defensive fortress... but why was it all useless?
Where did this sudden and terrifying firepower come from?
It couldn't have been created by the other party alone, could it?
Could it be that behind that colorful dust, a federal government counter-terrorism team secretly descended from the sky?
The second update will be later, before 12 o'clock.
