Chapter 498 The Holiday in the Land of the Rising Sun Comes to an End
On March 27th, when Jun Matsue stepped out of his bedroom in the morning, he heard sizzling cooking sounds coming from the living room.
"Are you up?" Yosuke Kurusu, wearing a black and white checkered apron, poked his head out from the kitchen. "It's just time to wash up and have breakfast."
"You got up so early today?" The boy yawned.
"Because today is the last day of rest," the girl said energetically. "I can't just sleep for most of the day, can I?"
“It’s been a week already.” Jun Matsueda stared at the figure in the kitchen for two seconds before walking toward the bathroom.
When he sat down at the dining table, there were already two plates of toast covered with a rich, golden color on the table. Kurusu Yosei was carrying a tall cardboard box and pouring milk into their glasses.
The boy sniffed the air. "It smells so good."
"Didn't I say before that I'd let you try the garlic toast from Laiqi's shop?" The girl took a big gulp of milk. "Perfect timing to use up the leftover butter in the fridge~"
Jun Matsue recalled for a moment, "You still remember what happened during the first year of high school cultural festival?"
The girl patted her chest and said, "Kurashi Yosei is not one to go back on her word!"
The boy cut off a small piece of toast and put it in his mouth. The garlic flavor was rich, with the sweetness of butter, much tastier than the fried egg toast he usually made.
"One hundred points." He picked up the milk.
"If you like it, Matsue, I can tell you the recipe." Kurusu Yosei leaned on the table, smiling at him. "If you make the garlic butter in advance, just spread it on toast, put it in the oven for a few minutes, and it's done. It's super easy~"
Jun Matsue finished her breakfast amidst the pleasant chatter, and then the girl began packing her luggage. The boy finished washing the dishes, and since he had nothing else to do, he went to the balcony to collect the laundry that was drying.
Seven days have passed just like that, and I still have half of my spring break allowance left.
Leisure days always seem to pass by like this: you think you have plenty of time to relax and plan what to do—things you wouldn't normally do anyway. But in the end, most of those enthusiastic plans fall through, and only those aimless days of sunshine remain vividly in your memories.
However, Jun Matsueda still did a lot. After seeing the cherry blossoms with Tomatsu Tomoka, the next day he went to Nogawa Park on the outskirts of Mitaka City to see the cherry blossoms at the request of Mochizuki Haruka and Kurusu Yosei, and took Miyamura Aya back to visit the welfare home nearby.
Then came another ordinary part-time job, followed by an unusual date with Tomatsu Yuka after get off work.
They went shopping together in Shimokitazawa, the place where Jun Matsue had met Maki Yamami by chance. He helped his senior pick out a Christmas gift for her friend.
Then the boy and girl took the train to Hikawa Shrine, where the senior student prayed for his trip to Hokkaido.
Tomatsu Yuka didn't do much; she just strolled around and prayed as usual. Matsueda Jun thought she would ask about the story that happened there, but the girl didn't ask anything.
Then Jun Matsue understood that Tomatsu Tomoka's imitation was not out of jealousy, but rather because she wanted to leave her own mark on his past.
Just like that incredibly realistic kiss at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
"What are you doing, Matsugi?" Kurusu Yosei's voice sounded behind him. The boy took the clothes off the railing in front of him, turned around and handed them to the girl.
"Can you get distracted while collecting laundry?" she asked, puffing out her cheeks.
"The sunlight is so nice, it melts away all the thoughts in my head," the boy smiled.
"I've already packed my luggage!" The girl took her clothes and went back to her bedroom. She quickly climbed onto the sofa in the living room, picked up the remaining milk, and her long neck looked particularly slender as she tilted her head back.
Jun Matsue walked into the living room and sat down next to the girl. He glanced at the open bedroom door; a bright yellow suitcase lay closed on the floor like a large mango.
"when are we leaving?"
Lai Qiyang glanced at his phone; it was 9:10.
"Let's leave at ten o'clock. Our agent is still at the company and won't be here for a while."
"Aren't you going to eat lunch before you leave?" the boy asked, somewhat surprised. "No," the girl shook her head decisively. "If you eat lunch before leaving, what will you do in the meantime? Watch TV and play games with Songzhi?"
"As you look around and play, you'll find yourself increasingly reluctant to leave."
"If you're going to leave, it's better to be decisive. I don't want to make myself so sad."
"It saves me some trouble, as I have to cook for one less person." Jun Matsue watched the milk stains gradually slide down the empty glass.
Yosuke Kurusu giggled and climbed onto the small sofa on the other side, where she lay down to sunbathe.
"I feel a little bad that Songzhi has been cooking most of the time these past few days~"
"Anyway, I'm on vacation and have a lot of free time, so it doesn't matter to me."
The girl suddenly sat up from the sofa. "The thought of not being able to eat Matsue's cooking again, while Mochizuki can still freeload—how infuriating!"
"She also cooks for herself."
Jun Matsue defended his neighbor who lived next door, but Yosei Kurusu glared at him and said, "But she eats more than me!"
There was nothing the boy could do but shut up.
During their last moments of leisure, neither of them spoke. Kurusu Yosei sat on the sofa, hugging his thighs, and turned to look at the sky outside the balcony.
Jun Matsue watched the girl's retreating figure. Sunlight painted her upturned black hair and fair earlobes, and the illuminated dust motes drifted slowly around her.
"What is Songzhi looking at?" The girl suddenly turned around.
“Your hair.” The boy looked at her. “I don’t think it’s very common to see black-haired Kurusu—most of the time she has pink pudding-like hair.”
Kurusu Yosei narrowed his eyes slightly, as if he had heard something interesting. "So, do you prefer my current black hair, or my previous pink hair?"
“Pink hair is more glamorous, while black hair is more everyday,” Jun Matsueda said without hesitation.
The girl smiled so much that her eyes curved into crescent moons. "Songzhi always speaks so sweetly."
When the agent's car arrived downstairs, Jun Matsueda picked up his suitcase and followed Yosei Kurusu down the stairs.
“Songzhi, this time is different from the tour. I will come and visit whenever I have time.”
The girl's voice echoed in the stairwell. She didn't turn around; her high ponytail swayed in front of the boy.
"Ah."
"Watch more TV. I'll be on TV often, so you can see me even when I'm not in the apartment."
"it is good."
As the two walked out of the unit on the first floor, Lai Xiyang turned around.
"Also, no other girls are allowed in my bedroom."
"This must continue!"
"Are you that worried?" Jun Matsue smiled.
The girl snorted, waved at him, and got into the car.
"You've got too many girls involved!"
