Chapter 101 This world is filled with death
“Get up.”
Jun Matsueda was lying in bed, replying to the bombardment of messages and calls from Haruka Mochizuki with these three words.
I put down my phone and looked at the ceiling, which I had become accustomed to. There seemed to be a few more black spots than before.
"Could it be mold or something?"
I lifted the quilt, put on my clothes, got out of bed, and went to the bathroom to wash up. The guy in the other room was still sleeping.
Just as Jun Matsueda started brushing his molars for the second time, his cell phone rang.
He continued brushing his teeth with his right hand and answered the call from Mochizuki Haruka with his left hand.
"I'm in the hospital with my aunt now." He heard the sound of equipment coming from the other end of the phone, as well as the sound of Mochizuki Haruka's breathing, which was trying to remain calm. "I didn't mean to ask you to come over. I just wanted to tell you something."
"Wait a minute," Matsueda Jun said vaguely, then rinsed his mouth and spit out the foam. "I was brushing my teeth and saw your message when I woke up."
He glanced out the window and saw it was still pouring rain, so he decided not to go out today.
"I know. I didn't think you would answer the phone."
Wang Yueyao looked out the hospital window and saw the wind and rain.
Just calling you makes me feel more at ease.
Jun Matsueda put his cell phone on the table and continued washing his face. Haruka Mochizuki didn't say anything either. She stood by the window, facing the doomsday scene outside. The sound of running water on the phone drowned out the sound of rain.
After he dried his face, the person on the phone continued talking: "The doctor said that based on the current examination results and clinical manifestations, Auntie's awake time will become less and less, and the intervals between awakenings will also become longer."
"In the end, you might never wake up again."
Jun Matsueda walked into the kitchen. There were still some ingredients and seasonings left from last night's Sukiyaki, and he planned to cook noodles.
"Pine branches."
"Hmm?" he replied.
"I won't give up. Even if I can only keep my aunt alive, it doesn't matter. I will never let her die."
"I didn't expect watching a few movies to change your mind." He put the noodles into the pot. "There's no need to stop you from saving your aunt."
"But I'm calmer than I thought." The girl put her face close to the window and observed her expression. "Thank you for that."
The remaining baby cabbage, mushrooms, and blanched meat were thrown into the pot and drizzled with sauce. "Have you had breakfast?"
The girl was stunned for a moment, "Not yet."
"Remember to go to the hospital cafeteria for breakfast."
Although Matsueda Jun couldn't see, she nodded silently, "I understand."
"So do you want to cancel your plan to go out tomorrow?" Matsueda Jun poured the noodle soup into two bowls and brought them to the living room.
Wangyue Yao returned to the room and looked at the woman on the bed. "No need. You were right before. There's no point in me staying here. The typhoon should be weakened tomorrow."
"Okay." Matsueda Jun started to eat noodles. The slurping sound reminded the girl, who had not slept well all night, of her already hungry stomach.
Mochizuki Haruka hung up the phone; she was going to have breakfast too. Matsueda Jun opened the door to the other bedroom, letting the aroma of food in.
Less than two minutes later, Lai Qi Yang Shi walked out of the room, washed up, and sat down at the dining table.
After breakfast, the girl spread out a mat in the living room and started doing aerobics. Matsueda Jun went back to the bedroom, turned on the computer, and made arrangements for the class for the cultural festival.
After the store manager and Tomomi Kaname's issues are resolved, she should take over.
Next is dessert making. It's impossible to bake them on-site; the classroom doesn't have enough space. We can use the home economics classroom, but we need to apply to the teacher in advance.
On-site reception staff
He hit the enter key and sent the rough arrangement to Tomatsu Tomoka, who immediately replied with an "OK" bunny emoticon.
The rest of the arrangements were left to the vice class monitor. Matsueda Jun took out his textbooks; he hadn't finished half of the new semester's books yet, and he couldn't slack off. He read on like this from the raging storm to the pattering rain. In between, the bored Kurusu Yosei came to bother him a few times, but he chased him away.
At five in the evening, Matsueda Jun walked out of the bedroom and stretched. His eyes were tired from reading all day. Kurusu Yoshi was napping on the sofa. He quietly opened the door and went into the hallway.
There were still large dark clouds overhead, but the rain had become much lighter, no longer able to tear the leaves off the bushes.
"Looks like I can go out normally tomorrow." He took out his cell phone and opened the map.
"The place I'm going to tomorrow"
When he woke up the next day, the first thing Matsueda Jun saw was still the message from Mochizuki Haruka.
"Ready to go."
He went out with an umbrella. The weather forecast said it would still rain today. When he reached the roadside, the car of the Wangyue family just stopped.
Jun Matsueda got into the car. Haruka Mochizuki in the back seat glanced at him. The girl's face was paler than usual.
She was wearing a black dress today, still tied at the waist with a thin black leather belt. The sleeves and shoulders were made of transparent gauze with black polka dot patterns.
"So where are we going today?" Mochizuki Yao still doesn't know.
"You'll know when we get there. We have to cover a lot of ground today, so thank you for your help, driver." Jun Matsueda smiled at the front driver's seat. The driver was the man in a suit whom he was very familiar with.
The car drove towards the west of Mitaka City, passing the baseball field of Inokashira Park. There were few people along the way.
The sky was still gloomy, and it started to rain within a few minutes. The road and the buildings on both sides were soaked gray.
This is typical funeral weather in movies, Mochizuki thought.
We drove straight ahead, passed several traffic lights, and when we could see Hachiman Taisha Shrine behind the woods on the left side of the road, we turned left and drove into a small road.
After passing the main hall of the shrine, the car stopped in front of Zenrin-ji Temple. The two men got out and opened their black umbrellas.
"Why are the shrine and the temple built together?" Jun Matsueda looked at the huge pine tree at the door.
Although it is called a temple, there is no temple at the entrance of Chanlin Temple. There is only a door similar to that of an ancient garden residence.
The girl shook her head, indicating that she didn't know. "Are you here to show me the temple today?"
Matsueda Jun'ya shook his head, "I guessed wrong."
"We're going to visit all the cemeteries in Tokyo, starting with Mitaka."
"Cemetery?" Wangyue Yao frowned, feeling that the person in front of him was saying something unlucky.
"Yes, there are many people in Neon who are famous for their deaths, and the grave of one of them is right here."
Jun Matsueda walked under the pine tree, folded up his long-handled black umbrella, and pointed the tip of the umbrella towards the temple.
Mochizuki Haruka remembered seeing the Dazai Osamu bookstore on the roadside while sitting in the car.
"Let's go." Jun Matsueda opened the umbrella again, stepped into the door, turned around to look at the girl standing there, and stretched out his hand to call her.
A young man holding a black umbrella stood under the white wall and black tiles, with the low gray sky behind him.
"There's only one thing you need to know today."
"The world is full of death."
