Game Development: Starting with Recreating the Anime Game Style
Chapter 587 Creative Antics
Chapter 587 Creative Antics
Although it uses 2D rendering, the game's overall art style is quite distinctive. It was described by Chu Chen, illustrated by Song Yueying, and fine-tuned with the art team from "The Wandering Earth".
What was ultimately presented was neither a simple post-apocalyptic style nor pure science fiction.
Rather, it represents a break in the continuity of civilizations and a grafting of traditions.
When a super-civilization with interstellar travel capabilities departs, the relics they leave behind are miracles and revelations for their struggling descendants.
Branding totems onto one's body with a plasma cutter, worshipping fragments of an anti-gravity engine as sacred objects, establishing a kingdom within the wreckage of a starship... This stark contrast creates an unprecedented, absurd yet realistic aesthetic.
What alarmed Chen Mo even more was the narrative pacing of the PV.
The entire PV, without any riddle-like narration or deliberately mysterious black screen subtitles, calmly and restrainedly presents a corner of this bizarre world to everyone.
This is quite out of step with the current state of PV.
Most of the current PVs are "show-off" PVs, which only show various visuals and scenes, and basically do not involve the story.
However, most of the PVs for Starry Night Games are "narrative" PVs. Although the content of these narratives is not much due to the time constraints, players can still perceive some of the general elements.
The Black Myth PV from the previous life was actually a "narrative" PV, whether it was the classic Black Wind Ridge singing style or the old monkey in the first PV.
In fact, they all reveal a part of a worldview.
In today's information-saturated world, players' patience has long been worn down to almost nothing.
Whether it's a game, a movie, or a novel, the worst thing you can do is keep things hidden and only reveal the core settings at the very end.
That approach might have been clever ten years ago, but today, most viewers will scroll past to watch the next episode before you even have a chance to reveal the secret.
In this day and age, what's needed is to first slap your most brilliant, core, and captivating element in the face of the audience, making them exclaim "Wow, that's awesome!" and keep them hooked, and then slowly tell your story.
This is the most effective narrative method in this era.
Chu Chen clearly understood this principle well.
The PV doesn't explain why advanced civilizations disappeared or recount the origins of those tribes; it simply presents the concept of a star core and its outcome.
That alone is enough to pique everyone's curiosity about the story of the entire PV.
After the scene presentation is complete, the pace of the PV gradually accelerates after a period of gentle introduction.
The scene shows a male character wearing a white robe, the same character who appeared at the Sony pre-show conference. Then, the protagonist stands on a high cliff, looking down at the plain below.
Scattered across the plains are remnants of ancient civilizations, and wisps of smoke rise from the chimneys of several small tribes, creating a peaceful and serene scene reminiscent of a bygone era.
Then, the entire image was divided in the middle by an invisible line.
The image on the left suddenly becomes dark and gloomy.
The sky was shrouded in thick, dark clouds, and the earth was covered with jagged ravines. The settlements of those tribes had been reduced to burning ruins, and the air was filled with the scent of despair and death.
The image on the right remains unchanged, and its color tone has even become brighter.
Sunlight pierced through the clouds and shone on the plain. The distant ruins gleamed in the light, and new buildings could be seen being erected, filled with the hope of struggling for survival.
The same scene, two completely different styles.
"What...does this mean?" Kong Yao was stunned. "A dual narrative? Or is it like Dishonored, where different world states result from the player's choices?"
Just as everyone was puzzled, the two screens on the left and right began to flash alternately, and more and more conflicting scenes began to appear at an increasingly rapid pace. Finally, the screen suddenly froze.
The dividing line disappeared, replaced by two huge and eye-catching game titles, appearing on the left and right sides of the screen respectively. On the left, corresponding to that bleak and despairing world, four large dark red characters appeared.
Star Core: Extinction.
On the right, corresponding to that hopeful world, large characters shimmering with azure light appear.
Starcore: Reboot.
The entire venue fell into a deathly silence at that moment.
Many people stared at the two parallel titles on the screen, their minds going blank.
What's this? A PV...
Two games officially announced!?
You can play it like this?!
The silence lasted for less than two seconds. The next moment, a deafening roar erupted, instantly igniting the entire venue!
“HOLY SHIT!!!”
"TWO GAMES? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!"
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!"
The Chinese gaming media present at the scene were filled with exclamations of "Wow!" and "What the heck!"
One PV, two titles.
Just as the emotions of the entire audience reached their peak, the scene on the screen changed once again.
Below the titles "Star Core: Extinction" and "Star Core: Reboot," another line of text appeared.
The offline demo of *Star Core: Extinction* will officially open in 48 hours at the StarCraft Games E3 booth.

If the previous announcement about the two games was like pouring a ladle of water into a pot of boiling oil, then this line of text is like throwing a lit detonator directly into it.
"BOOM!"
Throughout the entire venue, everyone seemed to hear a deafening roar in their minds.
"Yes!! There's a demo!!!"
In the history of E3, showing trailers is the norm, and making promises is a tradition.
But it's rare to find someone who just paints a picture and then presents it to you directly. This unconventional approach directly breaks down the psychological defenses of the players present.
It brought a truly delightful surprise.
Besides, as I've mentioned repeatedly before, players are the group that loves novelty and creative antics the most. Regardless of the final product, the players were already incredibly excited while the event was being staged.
Inside the venue, the deafening cheers nearly lifted the roof off.
Players and media of different skin colors and languages are all expressing their excitement with the most primal shouts.
Through the live broadcast, this wave of fervent sound instantly spread around the world, igniting the same emotions in front of countless screens. Amidst this boiling wave of sound, the stage lights subtly changed.
To the accompaniment of upbeat background music, a spotlight shone down, and a figure wearing a T-shirt with the Star logo and jeans walked out from backstage at a leisurely pace.
