Chapter 9 Attention from the Federation

“Sir, I’ve heard the seafood in Vespuchy is pretty good. How about we stay here for the night?” FBI Agent Austin Nash said casually.

They parked their car in the town's public parking area and then followed the map on their phones to their destination.

“If you focused on the mission, you wouldn’t still be an A2-level agent after five years!” Captain Gao Simmons said.

Austin shrugged. "Sir, you know San Diego. Our department has no budget and not many people. We can't even handle the gangs, so what mission are we talking about?"

Gao nodded helplessly, looking at the documents in his hand. "Never mind, it's just a routine inquiry. Let's go!"

Austin nodded. "But these people these days can't even make their stories believable anymore. Seventy-two demons and archangels have come. If such beings really existed, our satellites would have detected something amiss here long ago!"

They came after receiving a report, probably because it involved a church, and the police dispatched them.

But neither of them took it seriously. These so-called "miracles" that are reported to the police happen 20,000 times a year across the United States, and not a single one of them is real.

Those cults use this method to make money, and that's none of their business; that's the IRS's problem. Today's call was just a routine police response.

Gao glanced at the surrounding houses. "But isn't today Tuesday? Why is there nobody around?"

"Who knows? Maybe they're all on the beach or at the farm?" Austin said casually, not knowing much about the town.

The two continued walking, and the map showed that their target church was in the middle of the street.

Just as they were about to arrive at the church:
Suddenly, a dark light flashed past their eyes and crashed into the mountain wall at the end of the street!

"My hair... what is that thing?" Austin exclaimed, staring at his captain. "Sir?"

Gao nodded. "I saw it... it just flew out from where the church was, right?"

“Yes, it flew from the church!” Austin nodded, and the two immediately took out their pistols, exchanged a wary glance, and walked towards the spot where the dark light had landed.

The beam of light didn't travel far, only a few hundred meters. The two people were still in the middle of the road, so they were even closer.

Therefore, they quickly reached their landing point.

Here, they saw a huge pit, as tall as two people, and a dark shadow that was not very clear in the pit!
Both guns were pointed at the shadowy figure at the same time, and the shadowy figure moved the next second!
It suddenly stood up from the pit and transformed into a "birdman" with two legs!
"What kind of monster is this?" Gao asked, frowning. The two men cocked their guns and aimed them at the bird-man.

Austin didn't know, but he still shouted, "Unknown creature, immediately put your hands behind your head and crouch down! Don't make any moves!"

"Any action will have serious consequences!"

Upon hearing his words, the birdman turned around, looking at the two of them with some surprise, and then looked down at himself.

"Ah!" A sharp, piercing sound entered the ears of the two people, making them feel dizzy!
"Bang! Bang!" Without hesitation, the two men opened fire, and more than a dozen bullets were fired amidst the smell of gunpowder!

They emptied their magazines in just two seconds.

But the bullets didn't leave any marks on the other person. Instead, they seemed to hit steel and fell vertically to the ground with a clanging sound.

The birdman raised its wings and flapped them violently, its black feathers shooting towards the two like sharp arrows!

The two detectives instinctively ducked behind a nearby rock. Feathers struck the rock, and flying stones left marks on their faces.

“Sir, it really is…” Austin was shocked. He had thought this was just another boring trip involving fake police officers.

Unexpectedly, as soon as they arrived in the town, a supernatural monster appeared on their faces!

They hid for a while before starting to think of a solution. "Stop pretending! We're targeted by this monster!" Gao yelled. "I'll create an opportunity for you; go and bring our car over!"

Then, he suddenly leaned out and fired at the other man again, yelling as he fired, "Get in the car and call the station right now! Get the entire San Diego precinct over here!"

"Our chance for a promotion and a raise has arrived, as long as this damn monster stays here!"

But Austin didn't respond to his words; instead, Austin said, "Sir, someone's coming!"

Gao turned around abruptly and saw a group of townspeople, along with the priest and sheriff standing right in front of them.

Sheriff Franz had already drawn his Remington and was asking the two men, "Who are you? What are you doing here in Vespch, firing your guns indiscriminately?"

“We’re FBI agents, just arrived from San Diego!” Gao said quickly, pulling out his badge and handing it to them. “But that’s not the time for that. Didn’t you see the monster?”

"A monster?" Father Angus and Sheriff Franz were curious; there was clearly nothing in front of them. "Where did this monster come from?"

The two agents then peered out again and discovered that the "birdman" had suddenly disappeared, as if he had vanished in an instant!
Soon, screams rang out from the side, "Shit! Martin! Father, it's Martin!"

A young man's voice drew everyone's attention.

After walking around the large rock that was blocking their view, they saw the big pit.

Inside the large pit, Jameson, who had already jumped in, was shaking a dark figure.

“This is the monster!” Gao said immediately, taking his badge from Inspector Franz. “You know him?”

“He’s a kid from town, his name is Martin Delasso!” Father Angus said, leading the group forward. “I need to see what’s wrong with him…”

"Don't go! He can withstand bullets and fire feathers that are even more terrifying than bullets!" Gao quickly grabbed him.

Angus smiled, and the silver cross on his chest slowly floated up, causing white light to emanate from his body.

"Don't worry, Agent, God will protect me!"

With those words, coupled with the white light emanating from his body, people would probably believe him if he said he was a divine messenger!
Gao and Austin were even more shocked, as they had initially thought the so-called "divine presence" was nothing more than the usual trickery of swindlers.

Unexpectedly, after encountering the monster, they also saw a real "priest"!
The two of them felt completely bewildered; was this world... right?

Isn't this a materialistic world? Where did these things come from?

This shock wasn't limited to them; it also extended to the townspeople who had followed them.

They stared in astonishment at the scene before them. Both Martin, covered in black feathers, and Father Angus, radiating white light, were beings that changed their perceptions!

"Your Majesty, you have gained 23469 points of Willpower!" Alvin exclaimed excitedly. "Now you have 24769 points of Willpower, enough to refine two points of Divine Power!"

Of course, not everyone in the town was here yesterday, but only a portion of the residents. After yesterday's events, the number of people who know about it has clearly increased.

Compared to yesterday's dream, today's reality is clearly more thrilling!

“Very good!” Bai Yang nodded with a smile. “Then, let the story here ferment for a while, and then we’ll go to San Diego!”
